This is great. There is an alternative cause for an ice maker freezing over. I had the problem for more than a year and it was driving me crazy. I cleaned the fill tube, and it didn't make a difference. I noticed that the water was coming out of the tube really fast, so I tried to use a piece of plastic to keep the water from spilling over the funnel that takes it to the tray, but that didn't work either. I was about to spend more than $300 on a new ice maker that I was going to install myself when I wondered whether the water filters I had bought online might have something to do with the problem. My fridge is a Kenmore Pro and the Kenmore water filters are more expensive than generics you can buy online. I had tried to save some money buy going with the generics. This time, I bought a Kenmore filter and installed it. Doing that fixed the problem immediately. It seems that the flow of the water through the filter is really important. If it's too fast, the water can gush out of the fill tube too quickly and leak behind the ice maker. Hope this helps someone!

This was the solution I have been looking for. The fill tube was clogged, so when it filled the water, it was blowing all over the place. Thanks for this video - it was super helpful
Thank you for the straight to the point informative video. My problem was slightly different. The sensor wire that is held on to the bottom of the ice tray had pulled out. You can see the wire at 0:38 coming from the right side. I believe this is a temperature sensor that measure the actual ice temp to determine when it is completely frozen. Since my sensor was hanging down into the ice bucket it was fooling the ice maker into ejecting the ice cubes while they were not completely frozen adding liquid water to the ice bucket.

This was just what I needed! I was wondering why water was always leaking when the ice tray was filling up. Followed your steps and all is good! Thanks so much for posting this!
Thanks! Super helpful. Discovered my tray was cracked and water was dripping into the ice. Of course LG do not sell the tray separately from a new unit 😢
Thank you so much!! We couldn’t figure out what was going on with our ice maker and found this video. Your step-by-step instructions made it easy to do and it fixed our problem!
Hi. Great video. Gave me the incentive to look as to why I had water in my ice bucket, then the giant frozen blob. My fill tube was encrusted like you showed. The thing is, my wife is insanely strict on replacing the water filter. We have silicates in our water here in northern New Mexico, not calcium, nor lime, nor rust. Silicates are nasty to try and clean or treat or filter. Anyway, cleaning the fill tube crustiness stopped 80% of the water dripping from the tray mold to the bucket. I was still getting enough water to drip down into the ice. I ran a couple of manual cycles and watched where the force of the water from the tube, down, and around the clear fill funnel into the tray was enough to spray all the away across to the other side of the tray wall, out the gap between the wall and the tray mode, and drip into the bucket. We have too high water pressure here at the house which doesn't help. It messes with lots of other stuff too. But, the county won't work on the pressure regulator on our block. What I did was disassemble the clear funnel, and the cold air duct. I pulled the clear funnel and ground some of the bottom of the clear funnel where the water exits so that more would go straight down into the tray and not to the tray wall. Then, I bent a thin piece of aluminum stock and slid it over the clear funnel outlet, leaving a gap. This flattens the water fill and keeps 99% of the water in the tray mold now. I get One, tiny little drop that comes out of the tray mold wall and into the ice bucket. I can live with that. Hey, thanks again for the great video. My ice maker is now back to almost normal. In my opinion, this is a design flaw on how water can spray out over the side of the tray and into the bucket. My fridge is 4 years old. Maybe it's just wearing out. Stu, Los Alamos, NM.
OMG, thank you so much. This video had the fix for my refrigerator that had a huge ice block where the water is supposed to go into the ice tray. Now I have ice cubes again, and my fridge isn't leaking anymore water.
I was so frustrated with my refrigerator leaking water and freezing up that I was about to buy a new one. I replaced almost all the ice maker components and still, it leaked. This simple task fixed it up good as new! Having hard water, I should have known it would be something like this. Thank you!!!!!
Seriously thank you!! I've been so frustrated until I watched your video! Your assessment was correct, calcium build up on water nozzle. I cleaned it up with vinegar and we are all good!!
Thanks for your video. Did the job!! I didn’t bother unplugging the fridge or pulling the ice maker wire harness. Just cleaned out the calcium from the nozzle and we’re good to go.

This video was super helpful. Even though my model wasn't quite the same so it took me a little while to figure out which screws to remove to get access to the fill tube, I was shocked to find that cleaning the end of it with a toothbrush actually did stop the water spilling out and freezing inside and outside of my ice maker bucket. Eliminated a big pain dealing with this, thanks!
Awesome finally found someone that posts a very clear solution to my problem! I just went and cleaned it up. So crossing my fingers that’s all it is. Could also be that I have the valve for the water flow a little high. It fills faster than your video. Thanks!
Thanks! I have same lg door ice maker and same problem. I also have a second ice maker in the bottom freezer door, on the top. It is filling the ice bin making solid blocks of ice in the bin. Would this be the same fix? It's going to be fun working upside down🙄
@nateh.4414 That could be the ice-maker itself. This issue doesn't really happen to the ones that are in the freezer drawer because the fill tube is a lot wider. I would have to look at it. I'm in Southern California. Where are you located?
@@theapplianceguru oh I am in Texas. It is strange as sometimes it makes ice normally and then others it makes a mess of it and becoming more frequent. Thanks for your insight.

So far so good, I just did this on my fridge and it’s made a couple batches of ice. I found a couple dribbles of water coming from the ice chug but I don’t see any inside the door or around the fill area like I did before. I’m guessing that was just some residual ice melting, not new stuff. I believe what happened was the water dispenser was spraying a bit because of calcium build up and that spray was dripping down the door, and causing ice build-up in the tray, which then didn’t dump correctly, leading to overflowing during the next cycle. Hopefully this fixes everything. New ice makers aren’t cheap, despite being very cheaply made.
Great video! How do we fix an LG refrigerator that is clumping the ice it makes in the bottom party ice tray freezer? I feel like it is leaking water somehow and then that water freezes that dropped into bucket and when ice forms and drops into try it clumps together. Thanks!
Hi THank you for your effort. I do have questions however. 1. What is the "fill hose"you refer to ? Is it the little plastic/rubber 1/16 " diameter hose that is attached to the mold? Or do you mean the spigot from which the water is added to the mold? 2. My mold kind of bends when it is retracted after I energize it. In your video I noticed that yours also sightly bends as it retracts? I noted a slight crack in one of the cubes in my mold. 3. My electronics connection is different than yours. I am reluctant to try to pull it free as you do in your video. I consider myself quite "handy"but very cautious. Looking forward to hearing from you.
Hey good question when I say fill hose I refer to the aluminum tubing that comes out of the door mold. The Ice Cube mold that flexes should flex and twist and is not always level horizontally it could be tilted backwards or forwards that is a normal position for that Ice Cube mold. If there is a crack in one of the cube casings and you pour a little bit of water in there and water comes out of the bottom and the other side it seems you have found the problem more than likely the reason why you cannot pull it free as easily is that it is frozen in between the ice maker assembly and the door mold
I have a Kenmore built by LG that’s leaking water inside the ice maker and running down the right side and freezing. I gets built up bad enough under the ice bucket that it freezing it in there to where I can’t get it out until a bust away the ice.

I have white plastic shavings when using the crush ice option, is it the blades probably misaligned ? No its note calcium very fine sometimes big chunk of plastic braid. Could it be the ice bucket or could this be the the ice cube tray maybe its flaking apart when the ice gets dropped into the bin ? I cant see any marks or rough surfaces on the bin where blades are for crushing ice, but can the ice bin actually be falling apart and dropping its plastic shavings down below when ice is dropped ?
Ive got a similar LG frig. The icemaker is building up water beneath the holder tray and freezing up, and behind the backing where the dispenser motor is and freezing it up so it wont dispense. Also the water dispenser on the front isnt working.
Hi that might be my problem as well. I noticed that my ice tray doesn’t turn all the way upside down so I’m wondering if that is the issue. Every time the fridge dispenses water to fill the ice tray it leaks on the floor. Maybe because the tray is not emptying into the bucket the water can’t fill in the tray. I’ll try your fix to see if that’s the issue. Thanks
Thanks for the video. I have an LG that leaks water from the ice maker even after the ice maker is full of water. Would you replace the water valve in the back or the ice maker in the door? Thanks
New LG ice maker has been replaced to match model # from Lowes, new water intake valve on back has been replaced, and a new water filter installed. Water is dispensing, ice is freezing freezing but ice is not dumping. This is the 3rd ice maker in 5 years
My party ice maker in the freezer of my LG is leaking water into the bin after it makes the round ice balls. Over the course of a few day (fill cycles) there is enough water that has pooled and frozen to cause all the balls to stick together solidly. I have removed and cleaned it and the water fill tube seems to be 1/2 diameter and recessed into the top of the freezer. Any tips to resolve this issue?
Water dispenser is fine but no ice making. I couldn’t hear water fills in. Sometimes it does and makes 8 cubes. Do I need to change whole ice maker kit?
Ive had my LG fridge for 3 years and never changed the temps. Just last week it stopped making ice, turns out the line was frozen from the valve in the door to the ice maker. Thawed it out worked great for 1 tray of ice so we did it again and raised the temps to 37 and 0 and it froze again.... what could be happening to make this orange line freeze so fast?
@theapplianceguru I think i need to find a new tech, hes the one that said to raise the temps and everything was fine. I was pretty sure its something else causing the problem. Thanks for the reply!
Is there a way to replace the entire tube that fills the ice maker? Mine is "corroded" from hard water and I have to do this about once a month, thanks for the great video btw!!
Great video. Do you have a solution to a similar water leak/ ice cubes frozen stuck into tray for a model: GSX961NSAZ? and where is the test button on that model?
I have this same ice maker. How can i adjust the amount of water that goes into the tray each cycle? Also, a test button is mentioned. Where is it? Thanks
My LG refrigerator is the same as the one in this video and it seems to be leaking from the ice dispenser door on the outside of the refrigerator, will this repair correct that condition?
@jamesatthewatercooler5463 I don't know any technicians in that area. But if you have a preferred technician have them check the micro switches behind the water paddle more than likely water and calcium have corroded them shut and whenever you close the door it engages that switch to dispense water Google "micro switch" that would be what I lean towards. If you lock the dispenser and it stops doing it I would say I am 90% sure that's the problem
New to this. I'd happily add a donation (where exactly?) for your advice. My LG's ice maker water dispenser in the upper right seems to have More serious issues than calcium. I took a couple pictures. Can I upload somehow. ?

Great video.
Would a bad water filter cause the ice maker not to make use? Also, what would cause the ice maker to to drip water?
Thanks
Just fixed it, thanks bro !!!
What is that little rectangular thing hanging under the ice cube tray? It must have some purpose…
New LG ice maker has been replaced to match model # from Lowes, new water intake valve on back has been replaced, and a new water filter installed. Water is dispensing, ice is freezing freezing but ice is not dumping. This is the 3rd ice maker in 5 years
How do I take it out? The tray is broken and I need to take it out to fix
Great vid! Fixed my issue!!
Thank you for the comment, Derrick. I'm glad I could help!
More than likely, the line heater is not operating anymore on the fill tube or the main board. You would need a tech to troubleshoot the problem.
@theapplianceguru I think i need to find a new tech, hes the one that said to raise the temps and everything was fine. I was pretty sure its something else causing the problem. Thanks for the reply!
Thank I will check for deposits on fill tube👍
How do we repace justvthe ice cube tray if it is cracked,?
YEA what an easy fix, thank you!!!!
Is there a way to replace the entire tube that fills the ice maker? Mine is "corroded" from hard water and I have to do this about once a month, thanks for the great video btw!!
You need to replace the entire door
Great video.
Do you have a solution to a similar water leak/ ice cubes frozen stuck into tray for a model: GSX961NSAZ? and where is the test button on that model?
I have this same ice maker. How can i adjust the amount of water that goes into the tray each cycle? Also, a test button is mentioned. Where is it? Thanks
My LG refrigerator is the same as the one in this video and it seems to be leaking from the ice dispenser door on the outside of the refrigerator, will this repair correct that condition?
Where can i buy an auger motor for lg fridge?
Same LG I have but my problem is I shut the door and water automatically comes on like someone is getting a glass of water and ideas?

@jamesatthewatercooler5463 I don't know any technicians in that area. But if you have a preferred technician have them check the micro switches behind the water paddle more than likely water and calcium have corroded them shut and whenever you close the door it engages that switch to dispense water Google "micro switch" that would be what I lean towards. If you lock the dispenser and it stops doing it I would say I am 90% sure that's the problem
Ok thank you ill give it a shot
New to this. I'd happily add a donation (where exactly?) for your advice. My LG's ice maker water dispenser in the upper right seems to have
More serious issues than calcium. I took a couple pictures. Can I upload somehow. ?

My fridge is frozen on the bottom freezer is this the same problem?
What is the part number for the icemaker?
Different model versions require different part number revisions. Same process slightly different part.
Like the video but my issue is water splashing over the front outer side when filling. Took it apart as shown but found minor scaling. appear too much pressure??? Any comments?
Have you run across the following issue? LG ice maker works fine for 8-10 hours then stops filling. I shut it off for 1-1/2 hrs., turn it on and recycle and it starts working again. Then the issue repeats over and over. What the heck is that problem?
Mine is still dripping even after doing this. No cracks anywhere either. Any more suggestions?
Are you in socal?
Took my ice maker out today to clean out old ice from a fridge that’s just like this one. Hired someone to come and do a $1500 repair job on it a month ago , we don’t use the ice hardly ever. But tonight after dumping the ice and cleaning the calcium dust out of it, it put the ice bucket back in and my water dispenser won’t stop pouring water out. I’ve tried turning the ice maker off and the water is still pouring out. HELP!!!! Any advice and THANK YOU
Hello sir , when I turn off and on , the flipper bar makes a loud tick and almost like when you can't torque anyone. Any ideas what's wrong ? It's a new fridge.
Thanks for the information going to try this
This was helpful, but I couldn't figure out how to unplug the power connector on the back of the ice maker. My connector is a different color (white); I couldn't see any retaining clips that had to be compressed to pull it out.
@@rexadams2222 it could be tough to unplug it but you might need what's small Flathead
Hi, I am having issue with the ice maker. Water is coming but not the ice. I checked inside the ice maker, as per my observation water is not getting into the icemaker tray but when I take option of water on the front door I am getting water. How to fix this issue, how do i get the water into the ice maker tray?
Can this cause the whole unit not cooling??

greeting .. have a LG ridge that the ice is frozen in the ice tray .. it started with a water leak .. nothing functioning thanks
Can I just clean out the water spout and calcium and install the existing ice maker, to see if it solves the problem? I don’t want to get a new ice maker if it’s not needed.
I did not replace with a new one and mine is working
I had the serviceman came out so many times to service my ice maker still not working they put two new ice makers in and it's still not working could you tell me what I might need to do
My LG fridge not dumping ice into the ice box. What is wrong with it. I reset couple times and it is doing the same thing
Thanks alot video was perfect. I was just wondering if any one has had my problem. Ice cubes are made, but the tray won't dump the ice unless i push the reset button. Other than dumping on its own without reset everything works fine. Any help would be appreciated.
One side of my tray is cracked that’s causing leak but is there a way to fix crack replacing entire thing is $500
I don’t have the on/off switch on the left hand side of the ice maker! Any idea how to reset? Thanks
There is tiny hole in front of the ice maker and all you have to do is With tiny needle or clip press and hold for 3 seconds to reset:)
@@freeiran6492 Thank you!
I have the same lg but ice works but no water comes out of water dispenser.
Hi, mine keeps dispensing the water into the bucket before it can freeze any ideas as to why it's doing this?
We have to check it out where are you located?
Our ice bin is frozen in place. How to thaw without compromising food in fridge?
I used a hairdryer and hot water from tea kettle. Now, today I need to see if I can find the calcium build up? And I was bragging that I fixed. Only half fixed. Getting the ice defrost - done.
im john ,i have a lg craft ice make not get any water to the tray reset button works great does the cycle but no water, door ice maker still making ice and water on the door still filling glasses of water
My LG REFRIGERATOR makes ice but it does not drop it in the bin I have to do it manually
HELP!!! Hi Mr Appliance Guru, I have a side by side LG and it's not a year old. It looks like it is leaking from behind the dispenser, the water is coming out from the push panel where you place the cup to get the ice/water. And I have taken it apart, checked the lines and don't see moisture or water anywhere. Any suggestions or ideas?
Oof, that sounds like a tough one if it's still under the manufacturer warranty. I would reach out to the manufacturer for assistance.
Thank you so much!!!
I noticed icing every time I open the ice maker door, I called LG and was told to replace the ice maker box inside gasket. I did. and it cost me around 98 dollars. The issue was not resolved. still see icing inside the ice maker door and water dripping on the side of the door.
Thank you very helpful
One would think as complicated and expensive as it is it would work. Oh that's the reason it's NOT working.
Thanks.
Thank you for the cideo
Every video shows a reset button! Our fridge doesn't have one even though the directions on the door says we should?????
AWESOME THANK YOU!
