- Hi guys, today we have a look at how to install a kitchen sink waste trap and pipe on a bowl and a half kitchen sink. I show you how to fit the kitchen waste, measure the pipes and fit the fittings together so you don't get any leaks. Please remember this is different for every type of sink...oh yeah and we could get to all the valves and drain offs fine afterwards....and yes that solder on the hot was a bit poo. Can't remember why....I'm not god!

Thanks for this 💙 I’ve lived alone in a rental for 6 years and just removed and cleaned all my existing waste pipe work to fix the funky smell coming from under the sink/ washing machine, easy fix! Why no one shows you these things in school, I’ll never understand 🤷♀️

Nice job. Very clear and useful. We have a 35 year older Franke double which is always blocking up so I’m going to rip all the waste out and start again.
I only needed to see the bit where the bolt was dropped in place to dismantle the waste and clean a leaking seal. Job's a goodun!

ive a drip round the outlet sink rubber washer so thanks, i will go get a big screwdriver and see if I can nip it up from above. just what I was looking for james.
I agree - fitting the overflow is always a pain so if I'm fitting a new sink I fit the wastes and the overflow before dropping it into the hole in the worktop. Same for the tap if its fitted into the sink not the worktop. Had a tap last week which came with solid tails - so much more difficult to connect than flexis

Awesome just replaced old sink. Everything went well. Finished but not connected as waste outlet is in the corner of the cupboard. Think I need a flexible waste hose extension to finish off. Great advice here. Thanks.
I usually toss that waste stuff away use a tee piece and two traps ... one trap a spigot type 👍👍
James, as always, wonderful job! you saved so much space in the cupboard, and didn't use any quick-flex drain hoses, all ridgid and nicely fastened pipe. What more could you ask. . .

Awesome video - thanks, had to connect up my new sink & tap (plumbers called weren't interested apparently?) - used the same ssk2 kit you used and your method worked a treat. If I re-doing it I might tweak it a bit to get the pipes further back but as it is it's all water tight and I've got loads of room in the cupboard as the pipework is pushed nicely back.

Top class video. You’re not wrong about different wastes! Cannot find a replacement popup waste that fits my sink for love nor money. They all seem too deep, most of them with outlet going down - mine comes out horizontally :(

i'm here because I was hoping to see you fit a air-vent, of sorts attached to the waste U bend pipe like mine, ( which is leaking) couldn't buy a new valve , so blocked it off, but water slow to drain away now, and makes loud gurgling sound, as Air is blocked .Nothing else attached, just two taps and one waste pipe with U bend What to do?
Could you come over and fix our plumbing system please?? Our 5 storey house has leaks everywhere... Exactly like the film “The Money Pit” lol 😋

Great video, followed well, the problem I have where you had a dish washer in, I have a washing machine instead, now when this drain it makes a right racket when draining, what can I do, when I put the plugs down in the sink, the sound goes, cheers
@plumberparts I guess you don’t need to use Plumbers Mait on a modern sink waste system like that? I want to replace the sink basket/waste/plug hole on my Kitchen sink as it appears it’s not stainless steel like the sink was. Th chrome has come off and worried it’s going rusty. It’s only a bog standard kitchen sink. Just want it to look nice and newish. (Can’t afford a brand new kitchen).
Another helpful video, can you do a Belfast sink sometime these seem to have a deeper outlet with combined waste which makes the screw/bolt too short how do you get around this please.

Does the dishwasher waste slack affect the drainage from the dishwasher? Would it damage the pump by popping an extension on the dishwasher waste?

1:50 On my sink the top bit is the basket strainer type and there is no rubber seal between that and the upper sink surface. There is one between the lower facing sink surface and the waste housing, so it should be water tight. The installer used a sealing compound for the upper surface but I would like to replace it with a washer but I can't get one, and my enquiries were answered by a reassurance that a rubber washer isn't needed. DO you have any advice about that?

Dont you have double bowl connectors or combination traps in the uk? Manifolds seem like overkill for a sink.

What ratchet pipe cutter is that you're using ? I've got a 40mm Rothenburger slice type but with those you have to have the right size for the pipe you're cutting. A ratchet one would be useful.

My trap is at a 45 degree angle to fit in the gap and line up with the outside feed from where the old sink was higher up. So the water level sits just above the waste and slightly in one of the pipes that come horizontal under the main sink. Just wondering if I can leave this or should I drill more holes through the wall to run it vertically?
I’ve got wast trap copper but no rubber on the top wast what goes into sink hole? Do I need anything for it it’s a granite sink be the way?

Where did you buy the was trap? Screwfix dont sell that. ))
I test for leaks the same way but I add dye or UV dye, that way it's easier to spot where leaks are coming from
What height did you first fix the waste?

Probably coach bolts.
What screws did you use to go straight into the wall?
Hi, do you still check new comments? I got a replacement McAlpine waste unit and know how it should be installed but it seems shorter than the old one and the pipe struggles to reach it. If I secure everything there's still a bit of water dripping through, but it seems to come from where the waste secures to the pipe below. The old waste measures 60mm from top to bottom while the new one is 50mm (no seller seems to mention this when listing measurements so I can't find a longer replacement) and it was installed with a strange ribbed, almost funnel shaped rubber gasket between it and the sink bottom, which I have to use with the new one or it won't allow the pipe nut to screw on at all. Presumably this was used to bridge the gap because the right length of pipe wasn't installed at first, but it's not enough for the new waste and I'm not sure what to do.
I can't remove the screw from the old one because it was corroded and had snapped. I only noticed this because I ran the hot tap before washing up and heard dripping under the sink, as the grate had popped up and the waste had moved down from the sink base. I couldn't dig the screw out to reuse the waste as pliers snapped the rest of it 😔

its a lot easier to put most of it on before you fit the sink but please be very careful of those sharp edges under the sink
