I am Korean, and Korea is in chaos right now with breaking news. The president's martial law troops entered the National Election Commission first. The martial law troops entered the National Assembly an hour after martial law was declared, and only 50 people entered. However, 300 people entered the National Election Commission right away. The chairman of the National Election Commission is a Supreme Court Justice, so inspection and search are impossible. However, the recent election in Korea, where the opposition party won, was suspected of election fraud. And the president's announcement of the lifting of martial law was a recorded video.
Many people forget that South Korea only became a democracy in 1987, and at points in the past was the same if not worse than North Korea when it came to democracy and human rights.
That’s not the takeaway. The takeaway is that democracy is fragile. It doesn’t matter how long a country has been democratic, all it takes is a few years for it to lose that democracy. You can see the same pattern across the globe, democratic countries becoming more and more fascistic. Do you really think the SK president would’ve done this if he didn’t see that? The reason he failed is he didn’t spend time stoking misinformation and turning his party into loyalists. That’s why.
Tbh it’s shocking to me how many westerners has to look up what martial law is, that’s something drill into family history for too many Asian countries.
The problem is that South Korea has mandatory military duty for its entire population, which means that the majority of those affected will already be able to avoid soldiers.
Conscription only applies to men, but many women serve regardless. However despite conscription being in place since 1957, that didn’t stop the government from killing up to 3,000 protesters in 1980 when the last martial law was enacted. Let’s just be glad Yoon backed down even when the military said they only take orders from him and not the parliament even after the 190-0 vote to end the martial law.
My favourite part in this video is when he talked about a topic for 5 minutes then sat down and watched someone else's video on the same topic for the next 20 minutes
Im currently studying in South Korea, and when the martial law was declared I had no idea what was happening. But in my country all the news outlets said it was a coup attempt which scared my family and friends shitless because we’ve been through coups and martial law declarations too. Even though the parliament was shut down and soldiers were denying entry, the chad parliament members forced their way inside to start a vote for the dismissal of the martial law and it was dismissed in like two and a half hours lol. And the next morning everyone went to school and work like nothing happened. I was so happy for Korea because knowing their past and seeing how they’ve learned from their harsh past and how they value their democracy, but also sad that I can’t see this kind of behavior to protect your own freedom and democracy in my own country.

As one of the 3 women that watch this channel (I am actually nonbinary, but I bet I show up as a woman in the statistics), I do very much indeed care about kpop news. Some people agree that the kpop industry is headed into a garbage fire at rapid speed this year, and I am one of those people. The new jeans situation is crazy, the hybe (which pyro pronounced wrong) label is a flaming pile of shit at the moment, mainly because of the leaked internal documents where they bodyshamed some idols (ones that were under the company and some that were outside), said some heinous shit about groups outside of their label, revealed their plans to indirectly sabotage new jeans by making the new group Illit and Le Sserafim replace them in talent, quality of releases and performances. Which some people labeled as butter bullshit, since neither of the two groups that were supposed to replace them can sing live, and Illit is mostly just visual group. However the shit goes deeper, unfortunately I am not entirely educated on the situation, and so I cannot say everything with utmost certainty. However, even before Illit had their debut, people noticed the striking resemblance to new jeans' debut album photos, and when their debut single was released, these talks spread even further. The song 'Magnetic' absolutely sounds like something from new jeans, but since both are 5 member girl groups with young members, it was dismissed by some as stands being angry at nothing. Well, the ceo of the company new jeans were under (ADOR, one of the many companies under BIG HIT entertainment, that owns the hybe label that releases all the idols' music), Min Heejin, set up a press conference to acuse the company that owns Illit of plagirism. This eventually lead to Min Heejin being removed as the ceo of the company, and after new jeans made a stream, demanding for her to be reinstated as the ceo and claiminf that one of their members was insulted by manager of another group by telling the members of said group to ignore her (they didnt specify which group, but later the manager of Illit said that no such thing happened), this particular incident has been brought to court as work place bullying, I don't know how that ended, but I know that it was either dismissed by the court or it was deemed as not a bullying case. Not too long ago after the stream, Min Heejin has been placed as the internal director, and things seemed to calm down. BUT THEN THE DOCUMENTS LEAKED And now new jeans "left" the company (I am unsure of if their broke their contracts or just decided to not participate in the activities they were supposed to) and Mi Heejin left as well, and there are rumors that she plans on making a new company. As much as I would love to say that this is all that has been going on in kpop this year, I would be lying, because shit goes way deeper. However I am gonna end this here, cuz damn this turned into an essay. Sorry for the long post, here is a potato 🥔

The internet has absolutely broken me as a person hearing martial law be declared in another country and i get to hear like seven different people say "the south korea situation is crazy". Canada: chillin. 😅🇺🇲 Scandinavia: chillin. 😎 ISS: chillin. 😅🇺🇲🇷🇺🇨🇳 Antarctica: not chillin enough.
Speaking of birth, I once saw a documentary about the orphanage in SK that had a special "box", so young women (especially single, unmarried ones who are still looked down upon till this day) won't drop their kids at the doorstep, the "box" initiates a signal and people check the two-way box in the building. I'm not sure about the legality of this act of abandonment, but otherwise no one would do it, some try to do it really secretly and run away. So now thinking to the fact that not only raising a child in Korea is so expensive, just living is hard, it makes sense that some people cannot financially support it.
Baby boxes. It’s also because a lot of them are young mothers, often still in high school and single with the father wiping his hands off the ‘issue’. The later of which is a problem even if the woman isn’t a minor. The country looks down extremely on single mothers and parents are often not supportive, even sometimes kicking their daughter out while still pregnant or with the baby after she gave birth.
