  • Developed by Shiny Entertainment, Inc. and released in 2005 by Atari, this third-person action game follows the Matrix trilogy and the main character, Neo. Most scenes are directly tied to moments from the movies, with some unnecessary additions-like ants. Because what the Matrix really needs is ants. "Resurrections would be better if they added ants," said no one ever.
The gameplay consists of gunplay, which isn’t very useful due to weird hit detection, a lack of feedback on hits, and its usefulness only against non-agent enemies. To make matters worse, ammo is far too limited.
Kung fu melee combat is the main focus of the game, similar to the mechanics in Enter the Matrix. The controls are clunky, often relying on luck, and sometimes they’re unresponsive altogether. This issue is particularly noticeable with gun combos, which occasionally activate but then cause the guns to stop working until they’re swapped out.
The game offers three difficulty levels, which differ in the amount of damage taken and enemy health bars. This can make the game repetitive as it makes enemies damage sponges, especially on the hardest difficulty.
Overall, it might be interesting for Matrix fans and those curious about the first iteration of combat later used in Batman games and similar titles. And, of course, fans of ants will love it.
Digital purchases are not available on PC/XBOX. The game is considered abandonware.
