    I love your channel. You are very pleasant to watch because of your cheery personality, and so I have been waiting for you to do this tag. I've seen several zero waste tag videos and was excited that you did one. I agree that this tag was a nice idea by Snapshots of Simplicity. It's exciting to learn people's stories, especially all the zero waste youtubers that I look up to. Also glad for the people you've tagged-I now have new people I can check out for more ideas and tips :)

    I love how you found the book! It was destiny haha.
    I think I found about zero waste through a ted talk...i though the same as you...was that even possible??
    I was never very inclined to recycling and being eco...Because i was more inclined to something more real or more natural or going back to something naturally sustainable that didn't have to have a label to be ecofriendly...And something about health shops having so many plastic packaging really annoyed me! So I saw the light...but I'm starting very slowly one step at a time making sure every step is an improvement.
    Although I don't think that once you start you can go back completely! I just can't stand the look of a plastic bag...🙈 so yes! Very exciting journey...and actually it motivating by it self because it's revolutionary.
    Sorry for the long comment!

    I'm trying to develop my own way of zero waste and minimalism... I call it less waste and midimalism 😄 'cause I'm not consequent enough... But I'm really trying to change my consumption habits. always carrying reusable bags in my handbag, take along containers (still have quite a lot of tupperware stuff but better than throw away wrappings). I try to buy as much as possible from the organic farmer directly - like milk and eggs - and loose veggies from the market, loose chocolates from little stores or sliced meat from the butcher. Not so easy sometimes, people often look a bit overchallenged at first and have to rethink their routine and it often ends up with some kind of waste anyway. Either the little plastic foil to put sliced meat on for wheighing (instead of wheighing the container first) or the paper bag to stick the price tag on (instead of simply sticking it on the container)...
    But I generally get a nice reaction.

    I'm interested in reducing my waste, but the full 'zero waste" thing seems very... daunting. I thought about starting with cloth bags and tins and such when shopping instead of plastic. Would love to see what bags and tins/jars you use!

    • @kate.arnell
      @kate.arnell  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends where you'll be and what you're looking for but I'd def recommend Borough Market (it's huge, feels very old-London and lots to eat!), Shoreditch is cool (Brick Lane, Spitalfields etc) and Richmond in general is lovely. There's a place called Petersham Nurseries which is a small walk from Richmond but a great place for lunch of tea and cake. Enjoy your time in London!

      Yes, all year round, every Sat or Sunday. Borough Market near London Bridge is open most days too. Hope that helps! Their London Farmers Market has lots of details. :)

    Can't still stop enjoying your channel, thanks a lot! Hey, but I've got a couple of questions to you. I always look at these loose coffee beans or unpacked ones, but I've always tried to buy Fair Trade coffee. So my dilemma here is that the unpacked beans in my place are not Fair Trade. So, could you recommend me anything here Kate?)
    And you think a lot about environment, waste and pollution, but have you ever thought of going vegan?

      agree that this channel is great! about going vegan: i have been vegetarian at least 14 years of my life which i then stopped when i noticed more and more, that my body couldn't handle it- even with supplements.
      your natural reserves of all the minerals etc you need at some point are used up. now i am studying biology and know exactly how the human body works and developed through evolution. google trivalent iron compensation and you will find that plants mostly only offer bivalent iron which your body cannot work with as well as with the trivalent one that is in meat. and iron is only one of the things you will lack. our bodies have adjusted to a non vegan diet, just get into the "deep biology facts" and you'll see.
      + talking about the ENVIRONMENT: going vegan means you need many supplements, fruit and veg that are not locally produced to have a nutritious and varying diet- you leave a huge carbon footprint and also take the nutrients from other countries by buying their fruit, leaving soil that needs artificial treatment. eat meat (red and white) and fish once a week that is locally, fair etc produced. i think if everybody'd stick to that, the planet and our bodies would be the happiest.

    • @IGOR-wz8id
      @IGOR-wz8id 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      caroline lovesmusic well, vegan and vegetarian aren't the same at all. When I was vegetarian I was felling not better then when I ate meet and I was vegetarian for 3 years, but then I switched to vegan I started feeling really much better and stronger. Running and walking the stair has become twice easier to me. I've heart some doctors say that it's common for vegetarians cos they push on dairy and it makes iron absorption not effective. I've been a vegan for almost a year and recently had a thorough examination with blood work and the results were even better then norm. I most take only b12)
      About health and biology I can't say anything, but I think that I can recommend you to check nutritionfacts.org channel, I think it's interesting and provides tones of references.
      About carbon footprint, I must disagree with U. Btw, have you watched Cowspiracy?

    • @kate.arnell
      @kate.arnell  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well said! This is exactly what I experienced after being veggie for 13 years. Thanks for sharing your insights! Very interesting and makes a lot of sense to me. I very much agree about buying local and seasonal. :D

    • @carovogel8676
      @carovogel8676 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      sitting in my biology anatomy class thinking of you Igor... i guess everybody has to decide for themselves what to do with their body.
      I got to know at university, by a nutrition adviser, two doctors and on the web as well that we need a balanced diet with meat, because otherwise the storage for important minerals and vitamins etc that your body has, uses itself up not immediately but slowly (can take several years!) and also that the high feeling you're describing only lasts for a certain time and you said yourself that you're vegan only one year.... I have watched cowspiracy, but still disagree with a lot of it and don't think veganism is a healthy answer to all the problems mentioned. the whole vegan thing is pushed by people who are interested only in making money as well as any other industry. have an open mind and don't eat the information fed to you.

    what about going vegan for the environment?

  • @liaf8782
    @liaf8782 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Its wild that you care so much about the environment but still buy animal products. Not a call out post just a friendly thought. I think if you looked into the environmental impact of the meat and dairy industry you might be surprised :)

      Lia F there is ecological meat

    • @liaf8782
      @liaf8782 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Actually the vast majority of meat is not ecological (like 99%). Over half of global greenhouse-gas emissions are caused by animal agriculture and it takes thousands of gallons of water to produce a single burger from the start of the process. Not trying to be That Person, I urge you to look into it for yourself :)

    • @elzhar4715
      @elzhar4715 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lia F I am aware of these data, but being vegan or vegetarian does not change anything, we have to make laws against that process, make balanced diets reducing meat consumption and opt for organic food.
      Postscript: sorry for my level of English, I'm Spanish and I'm practicing

    • @liaf8782
      @liaf8782 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure what "that process" means? but I'm completely aware that my eating vegan will not reverse global warming but I feel better in myself not contributing to it. Its the largest change we can make as individuals to help the planet, especially when it is so easy in this day and age!
      And I feel better physically, I am much healthier since going vegan, I have way more energy and I have not gotten sick once!
      Also totally don't apologize for your english!:)

    • @lilycheeks
      @lilycheeks 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hm, wrong. Supply and demand. The only reason the meat industry looks the way it does is because the demand for meat is at an all time high, and because there's so much money in it, we will do whatever it takes to keep the supplies coming.
