I envy anyone experiencing this game for the first time. So good. This song plays when you get to the first main area, the City Ruins. There's also different versions of this song depending on how far you are in the story.
You get the calmer (quiet) version while exploring, then the energetic one when you're fighting, and the vocals usually in significant moments (those could last hours, mind). Music in Nier Automata is completely dynamic. I'd recommend pretty much the entire soundtrack, but i personally love Pascal's village, War & war and Dependent weakling the most... well there's also the shadows version of SIty ruins, and Emil: Despair, and Blissful death... urgh. Nevermind, i can' possibly choose. The whole OST is gorgeous.
Same. I just played it for the first time a few months ago. It wasn’t a “perfect” game for me, but damn the sound design, and atmosphere is second to none. Incredible.
This game broke me emotionally and I loved every moment of it and the music played a ginormous role in making both happen. Nier: replicant has some really good music too (Song of ancients is a constant in the franchise); Also, this game's music have multiple versions depending on what you're doing or what is happening, as each zone has its own theme. They use layering (Similarly to Doom and DMC5) where exploration has the stripped down version of the song, combat adds the drums and vocals at times.
I completely agree man. Listening to any of the OST almost brings me to tears. I am so curious to know why though? I’m such a huge fan of so many types of music but this just hits different
just found your channel through one of your bloodborne ost reaction on recommended page less than 30 minutes ago and saw this video just pop up on your channel. I'm autistic and I don't have a musical background, so I spend a lot of time looking for videos that can help me process and put into words the emotional responses I get through certain video game soundtracks. I appreciate yours and other people's insights on the music through reaction videos like this. NieR: Automata is the game that has had the most profound impact on me and the soundtrack is an extremely major part of that impact. If you get the chance to play it all the way through I would 1000% recommend it because, while it is a bit of a time-sink, the context of what's happening in the game paired with the music is incredibly powerful (and I'm biased and think everyone should play it given the opportunity). Thank you for the video!!!
Ty!!! I'm so glad to hear you're enjoying. I do plan to play NIER - it seems to be so well loved that I'd love to give it a shot and see what it's all about! I played the first hour once and really enjoyed it so I'll have to jump bac in
NieR soundtracks is amazing, a lot of Keiichi Okabe music is majestic and beautiful but also powerful and fast when you here the battle and boss themes.
Voice of No Return, Grandma, Shadowlord, Kaine Salvation, Emil Sacrifice, Halua, Yonah, Weight of the World, Peaceful Sleep and Amusements Park are all bangers and would be dope to react to.
Oh hell yes!! "A Beautiful Song" is one that goes hard. That'll be cool to see ya to react to that one! There's an entire live playing of this soundtrack, with full orchestra and dueling vocalists. It's awesome. Another one to give a listen is "The Amusement Park". It has so many layers to it and definitely not what you are expecting this game to toss at you, even though this game throws a lot of curve balls at you. It's such a gorgeous game and the soundtrack completes the package.
I would pay a million dollars to have my memories of this masterpiece erased so i could experience this for the first time again. I still remember getting to the main area for the first time and just panning the camera around in awe of the visuals and music...
@@emyoung NieR: Automata it's a philosophical journey and I love this game for combining solid gameplay with deeper reflections on what really makes someone, a human being.
this is such a cool series you're doing. this content rules. i love nier, i just started a replay, your content shows up on a lot of my feeds. great stuff
Love this song and many others from the Drakenier series. Keiichi Okabe is a master at what he does! Also, at 2:27 you guessed it spot on, that's another thing I love about Keiichi's music is that even for someone who hasn't played the games is still able to guess very closely what the song represents. This was a wonderful react, glad I found your channel. Subbed!
One of the greatest video game soundtracks ever. One of the greatest soundtracks ever. I don't think there will ever be a game soundtrack that tops this. It's so beautiful.
yesss, nier automata is one of my favs games, hopefully you react to the other OSTs of it and the different versions of them since the same ost can change in different stages of your playthrough!
If there is one thing I've learned about great music, especially within video games, it's that they can bear some semblance to Pachelbel's "Canon in D". When listening to City Ruins, each instrument/voice has a particular theme they bring to the song. These instruments/voices layer on top of each other to give the song its complexity and seemingly meditative sound (can be listened for extended periods of time) as the song crescendo's and decrescendo's; ending the very way it began. I love this song and this composer's works.
@@emyoung It sure is an experience. Especially the music during fights. The choir sometimes reminds me of "The Best is yet to come" from the Metal Gear Solid soundtrack. Hits the nostalgia spot just right.
One of few games that I bought solely for its music, art style and philosophical and ideological themes on humanity (what makes us human, man and machine, etc.). I legit fell asleep the first time I played this game from simply putting down the controller to listen to “City Ruins” at the start of the game, lol. It’s so cathartic.
If you find any of the fan mixes that blend the orchestral and the chiptune (from the hacking minigames) variants of the given song, give them a spin, those are usually stellar
Omg I recomend another song from this game called "A Beautiful Song" its fricking amazing. So many songs in this game that are amazing I couldnt list them all here
"It feels like instead of adding more layers closing it down it still feels open" Do you picture it like every instrument/layer coming into play expands the feeling like zooming out rather than darkening the picture? Because that's how i feel about it. I love "painting the instruments and sounds" in my imagination
You should check out Song of the ancients, it's one of battle songs from Nier: Automata. It's very unique in that it has lyrics like city ruins and it also has this sense of reverence and beauty beneath the tension of combat.
With regards to your vocal/combat query, most tracks in this game have 6-7 variants; things like ambiance, a vocal layer, action instrumental, corrupted audio, even chip tune/8-bit. IIRC, all of them run simultaneously in the background. That way, no matter where you are in the track, the game can seamlessly transition from exploration to combat to minigame by simply changing which layers you can hear. As for recs, “Song of the Ancients (Atonement)” is a personal favorite, with “Amusement Park” and “Birth of a Wish” not far behind.
Wtf man. Luterally saidthe exact same thing about falling asleep to thus song in a good way, like a mother bird letting its babes rest in its wings or some shit like that.
Feel the emotional wave while playing this game, after finish the game, try to just listen every soundtracks without the game, the scene will automatically flow inside your mind, especially 2B's shadow. Soundtracks is the soul for this game's theme, the soulless androids and robots
NEIRRRRRRRRRR. So many truly amazing songs. If you want a solid amazing vocal performance (that makes me cry everytime I hear it) - th-cam.com/video/ToBQY630PZE/w-d-xo.html And if you want something more boss theme, this is my favorite - th-cam.com/video/KJBUF-s15co/w-d-xo.html / Which this song has amazing vocals too, but it's in Chaos language, which is a made up language for the franchise. I love how despite not knowing what it says, you can still feel the emotion and intention.
I would absolutely recommend "Nier: Automata - Weight of the world". The original Japanese was removed from YT, copyright stuff. The song has 2 versions: Japanese and English. Imo, the Japanese version is superior to the English one, tho they are both masterpieces. There used to be a Japanese version with english lyrics but it seems gone as well. th-cam.com/video/E0EPVNEh4TU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=tVVx5qQABCYQ-YL5
my favorite fact about the OST is that they gave the singer the task to make the songs seem old. she accomplished this by crating a "camber", probably not the right term, so that it would sound like a song whose language has been forgotten. If I remember correctly she has a translation in her native language but the song language it self does does not exist.
Fun fact The maker of the game invented a new language for the music in this, it’s called angelic and it has English French Japanese German etc. it’s interesting how much this studio puts so much thought into neir
I envy anyone experiencing this game for the first time. So good. This song plays when you get to the first main area, the City Ruins. There's also different versions of this song depending on how far you are in the story.
