    They made multiple versions of the same track for the game. First you have the original version which plays when you're at the heart of the place associated with the song. Then the "Quiet" version plays when you're a little far from the location. And lastly "8 bit" version which plays during hacking minigame. Its amazing how seamless the transition is in game. I highly recommend playing Nier Automata. Its a masterpiece in gameplay,storytelling & soundtrack

      So the music is implemented in the game in a dynamic/adaptive way, great!

    • @-libertyprimev1-902
      @-libertyprimev1-902 2 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      @@AtlasBenighted yes, same goes for battle themes where the enemies' hp as well your hp will cause the music to transition from instrumentals to vocals.
      Then for Bosses certain attacks can affect the music, for example one song has Bells that will play Only when the Boss does a specific attack at just the right time. (Some people have never even heard them because the timings just won't line up for them)

    • @bloody4558
      @bloody4558 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@-libertyprimev1-902 This is something they probably based on Phantasy Star Online 2, that game does that a LOT on bosses, there's a boss called Dark Falz Luther(Loser, depending on which translation you're playin on), who can stop time, and the music start looping a certain instrumental section when the boss uses this attack, letting the music progress only when the time starts moving again.

    • @-libertyprimev1-902
      @-libertyprimev1-902 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@bloody4558 that sounds about right, though it's possibly also a nod to series origin, since Drakengard 1 and 3 both had "Final Final Bosses" that were quite literally the songs... Music has always been a Large part of Drakenier so it's difficult to pinpoint all the exact inspirations.

    For context this song is the theme of a place where a bunch of newly-conscious robots who don't really fully understand human civilization or what the emotions they feel mean have built an amusement park and are sort of going through the motions of celebration. You can't actually be certain whether they've truly become "alive" or are just imitating human behaviour as best they can.

    • @spawn2021g
      @spawn2021g 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Not to mention that the park is actually a deadly trap, because of Simone and what she is up to down there.

    • @keksitzee1094

      To me this is when the game clearly tries to make you question your assumptions about those machines. At the start, the machines are dehumanized for the sake of the war propaganda. Then very quickly during the next few chapters when you, - playing as the protagonists, investigate them more, you start noticing that there is more to them than what appears on the surface. In stark contrast to the cold and unfeeling description, you're shown these machines populating an amusement park, which by its very purpose is to provide joy to its visitors. This contradiction is then portrayed through this piece of soundtrack as well, with its unsettling composition.

    Something I haven't seen a lot of people point out is how at certain parts (such as 3:56) the glockenspiel in the background plays a variation of the iconic melody from the classical piece, "Entrance of the Gladiators", which nowadays is mostly associated with circuses and clowns. Which ties really well into the location this track plays in.

    Every time i hear this piece i get this sense of nostalgia, not even just for the game, the first time i played it i got the same feeling. I love this song for that. Also you're correct, it's a made up language. Maybe i am too late, but what about "Lady Maria of the Astral Clock Tower" Theme - from Bloodborne?
    I think we forgot this one during the "souls season".
    I really like this content and it would be nice to see an analysis of this masterpiece

    A full context for the ost, potential spoilers: It is for an area of the game that has an amusement park theme where sentient robots literally dress up in clown outfit trying to recreate and run an amusement park but due to some slight misunderstanding they didn't clean the place so it looks kind of dilapidated and junkyard-ish with most of the rides broken down. The robots are actually docile and doesn't attack the players upon entering. At the end or more accurately the center of the amusement park is a castle and inside it resides what might be represented by the dark aspect of the ost which includes the boss and a bunch of robots that lost their minds as they gained sentience. And since you already did the one for the boss fight then there you have the full context.

    A little late the language was developed by Yoko Taro there is no translation it was made specifically for Nier in this case Automata. Can you check out wretched weaponry. It's in Nier automata

    The vocals for all of Nier are not a real language! They are made up specifically for the music! A technique so that there are vocals in the music, but not so they are distracting

      Actually there are lyrics and because they were required to be written phonetically so they could be pronounced, it was far more difficult.

      @@bobkile9734 I think they were written to have meaning, just not translatable, so they are open to interpretation. There is clear emotion in the singing which conveys a meaning but lets the listener assign it. The lyrics also don't rhyme anyways, which would have been very easy to do in a fictional made up language yet they chose not to.

    It's a composite language and if I'm not mistaken it has Celtic, Russian, French and probably old English mixed in it and probably more.

    The language is invented for the game. And this song in particular was not composed by the main composer.
    It's funny that people always praises him for this theme and he says "that's the only theme I didn't compose" 😅
