Man, I remember day one after the release of risk of rain 2's "final boss" update and experiencing con lentitud poderosa for the first time. Honestly no other experience like it. It was just such a change initially from the previous tracks, and then the drop.
even better originally, back when there was just a path to the boss. the tunnel was longer, and if you nosed around a bit and took your time (likely on your first time being here), chances would be the drop would happen RIGHT as you reached the outside.
Also have to add there is nothing like teleporting to the final stage and running through that quiet tunnel with only the sounds of that piano, your feet hitting the ground hopped up on goat hooves and energy drinks, maybe the buzzing of a tesla coil or wax quail or hopoo jumps, the constant sounds of fire and tougher times on a hellfire run. The sounds all complement each other so well. Enchanting on every entrance.

The Rain Formerly Known as Purple will always have a special place for me. To this day I’ve never had music sync so well for me. Right as the music pulled back at 6:02 was when I hit the teleporter to continue looping and I couldn’t help but smile because I knew the timing was dead on. An overloading worm erupting out of the ground to the drop of the beat was what cemented the ost as something I won’t forget.
Interesting fact about ...con letitude: it actually uses the motif of a song from the first game called Coalescence, both songs also play on the final stages of their respective games, which are also both strangely melancholic places compared to the rest of the games settings(the first game being on the remains of the ship your character was brought to the planet on, now only inhabited by enemies, with the original crew either dead or stranded on the planet below. While the second game takes place on a desolate moon orbiting the planet, in the ruins of an ancient civilization, which now act as a prison for a powerful creature, who is also the last thing standing between you and escape.)
@@The_Blazelighteryep, really ties it all in from begging and end. All other songs have a main sound to them with this motif accompanying them. In the first and last songs, it is the main sound. Really exceptionally beautiful.
@@The_Blazelighter that really cements the idea that it's not just the theme of the planet, but the theme of the Brothers, more so providence (also Acrid in ror2 is actually still alive, they're the unlockable acrid in ror2)

Wow...I never knew that 'The Rain Formerly Known as Purple' had such a beautiful ending! By the time the guitar solo starts heating up I'm thinking I gotta get goin or I'm gonna get one shot by an overloading brass contraption
God. The way you picked up on and mentioned about the final song being a reveal, a change or introduction of a character, and I think that's so perfectly fitting to the way the song was initially presented in the game. On release, the stage that the song played on was very different to the one that exists now, and it feels so much to me like this song was written for that first initial stage. The way the stage is laid out, is that you walk out of a long corridor where you can't see much of anything, up a large staircase and then past crumpled over pillars with just a glimpse of the outside. You know from the teleporter before being "aligned with the moon" and seeing the shattered moon in the sky on the previous stage, that something happened here, but as the song first brings in the acoustic sounds, you step outside and get to see the moon, fractured in pieces held together by tendrils of light, beneath you a bridge, impossibly tall and longer than anything else you've seen in the game up to that point, with barely an enemy to be seen. As you walk along it, the towering figure of some kind of structure begins to loom more and more over you, and as you finally walk up to it, see a sword almost identical to the one wielded by the final boss of the previous game, the tragedy of what became of them and what happened here, the music finally drops and you slowly float up further away from the ground to look into a giant arena. It so perfectly captures the exact feelings it needs to. Reading the lore entries and whatnot give you more details into what tragedy indeed took place, but just seeing the moon itself shattered into pieces, walking up to the last thing still standing there as the music keeps pace, with nothing else to really challenge you as you just march to that end, it just so perfectly gets across that feeling and works together with the music. It was changed eventually later, to be more game-y. Enemies became more of a threat and you had to charge beacons to get up to the fight and whatnot. The map was changed to be more filled out and not as long of a trek. But I'll never forget hearing the song for the first time and making that march to the end of something that had long since ended.
Dude, that electric violin looks sick. Also just casually adding onto the songs with your own instrument and it actually sounding really good is a huge flex.
The way you talk about the purposes that the songs feel like they should serve is 100% spot on. Every time you predict the function of a song you are correct, which speaks to your intuition as a musician and the quality of the music.
con lentitud ponderosa’s first half is realizing the amount of blood that’s on your hands. The second half is realizing that blood will never wash off.
17:07 being such a love of this soundtrack it pleases me to see that you are playing along with the track and not stealing the glory but melding yourself intricately into the song like you are a part of it. well done!
I was playing through RoR2 with a friend and we went to the final stage for his first time. He’d picked up a hell fire tonic and had stacked so many tonic afflictions he slowed to crawl whenever the tonic wasn’t up. So making our way out of the temple took so much time that we only made it out just as Con Lentitud Poderosa really hit the moment. It was such a powerful moment, coming out onto the surface with music somehow in sync.
i always get a wicked grin when people in the know of musical production or creation sit down and really can feel out the skill on display for RoR2's soundtrack
The funniest part about this soundtrack to me is that Chris made 8 minute long bangers for each stage in a game where you want to spend as little time on a stage as possible
Which works well cause most of the songs ramp up in intensity and if you've been on a stage for about 8 minutes then your situation has most likely also ramped up in intensity lol
Honestly if you like the music this much, I dont think anyone would be adverse to the idea of you doing a full OST reaction. All the songs are so wonderfully created that I listen through the entire soundtrack over and over all the time. Chris Christodoulou not only singlehandedly composed and played all of the guitar, keyboard/piano, drums, and synth in all the songs, but also mixed it all as well. If you were to only listen to a few more songs though, I would personally recommend you pick from Terra Pluviam, Koppen As F*ck, Hydrophobia, Antarctic Oscillation, and You're Gonna Need A Bigger Ukulele if you want some more of the rock side of the soundtrack. Some of the more chill songs like Thermodynamic Equilibrium, Evapotranspiration, Disdrometer, and Parjanya would be good picks if you want less of the rock and more synth. But literally every single song from the games is phenomenal. Even Petrichor V, which is just an ambience white noise track for when you beat the game is great. You absolutely have to listen to more of this game
I always do love seeing people react to RoR2s mind-boggling OST, though I always wonder each time I look at one of these videos, did they see the reference of purple rain? After 1 listen of Purple Rain by Prince and 1 listen of The Rain Formerly Known as Purple, you can see the "slight" referencing in it.
RoR 's coalescence still ends up being one my favorite musical pieces to this day, with RoR2's con lentitud poderosa being a beautiful successor of sorts to the former
I think one of my favourite parts about 23:53 is that it hits at a point in the level where you move from a more sheltered, quiet, cold entrypoint on the stage, with no enemies, and finally emerge to see the rest of the level, which features huge grand structure where you will eventually face off against the final boss. It's timed pretty well in that regard, and it feels so amazing every time.
About 2 hours into the game and I fear the day when I get to the stage where "The Rain Formerly Known as Purple" comes in and I die because of distraction
@@arkvoodleofthesacredcrotch6060 stopped my attempts at finishing the game 2 months ago after getting sent to the shadow realm by grandparent like 3 times
I also love that the soundtrack also plays a factor in the game, as when the music gets more intense, that's a queue that you've spent too much time on the stage. It's a masterpiece of a soundtrack that just keeps on giving!
Into the Doldrums and Terra Pluviam are two more iconic tracks from the OST that I feel like are often overshadowed. Would recommend pretty much the entire Risk of Rain OST (including the first game) but definitely check out those two tracks if you want more!! ;)

Risk of Rain 2, The Dehydration of Risk of Rain 2, Terra Pluviam, Into the Doldrums, You're Gonna Need A Bigger Ukelele, The Raindrop That Fell To The Sky, They Might As Well Be Dead, The Rain Formerly Known As Purple, Antarctic Oscillation, Petrichor V, con Lentitud Poderosa... This is the list of songs I'm trying to choose between as my 'favourite' from the album. This is also more than half of the entire album... There's a reason why we say "Chris don't miss."
Rain formerly Known as Purple has a arpeggiating piano motif and an ascending guitar motif from Prince's Purple Rain which i think is really cool. Im also once again asking for monster hunter tri's Ceadeus Theme Moonquake cus its just so good.
Holy shit, new to the channel and seeing that electric violin come out and realizing you were going to play along was so exciting. What a pleasant surprise. The instrument is amazing, and you play it so well. What a cool element to add to your reaction, a real conversation with the music.
Just discovered you through this video. I am a music lover with absolutely no music knowledge, so to watch you react to music the same way I do but have you explain whats happening to me in music language was such a treat! When you jammed out with the violin I was getting goosebumps. I wish I could do that! This is my second favourite game soundtrack, id LOVE to see your take on my favourite, "I was a Teenage Exocolonist". If you could inform me of what that music is doing, it would probably be my favourite video on TH-cam!
21:30 is so spot on, this is the song that plays on the commencement, the moon where the god mithrix resides, and he is depressed and lonely after him and his brother had a fight due to mithrix’s need for everything to be perfect and his brother providence’s want for… chaos
Please do more! The ones in the "Survivors of the void" DLC are amazing as well, the composer explores different ideas while mantaining the formula and expanding on it, its wonderful.
watching you groove to the song made me happy. this game is my current fixation and the soundtrack BLEW me away when i listened to it. such a huge inspiration for my own music, thanks for the video! you put the feelings it evokes into great words. it feels nice to have such kinds of music be so highly praised 10:01 when this part of the song kicks in, i get tempted to stop and listen to it in the game, but you're encouraged to keep moving and keep moving fast. it's amazing
21:45 Fun Fact! '...con lentitude perdosa' is the music that plays in the final stage of the game, and the time stamp above shows a part where it introduces a new piece. This part of the song is actually a toned down and softer version kf what is played on the FIRST games final stage, the song being called 'Coalesence' and being one of if not my favorite Risk of Rain songs.
23:49 I love how you can tell he is watching this on Chris's youtube channel because when the drop hits, his screen lights up his face (which it was already doing on its own, lol) at the same point where the video swaps from a black frame to a white frame instantly. I hope it was easy enough for someone who hasn't played the games to have picked up on the "reminiscence" vibes that part of the song has, as it goes back through all the title art for the updates of the game's beta phase (with a quick thought to the original game as well) up to its full release. Crazy strong vibes in this video.
Chris Christodoulou did some music for the game deadbolt and when i listen the song i imediately think of Risk of Rain because is style is so characteristic. the song is named "the provervial dust bitters"

One of my absolute favorites, I'm glad you're loving it so far :D P.S. That second song is timed perfectly if you have no speed boosts to start the guitar as you come out of the tunnel and see the giant looming tower platform the final boss is on with a backdrop of the planet you've been on. Different generation most likely. And even I who is an 80s kid never really got into Prince's music so I have no nostalgia for it whatsoever. Personal preference.
To me, “The Rain Formerly” being groovy and more bouncy always seemed to fit perfectly in the stage it’s in, because it sort of symbolizes the stage that a player would start to feel like they’re finally in their “groove” with the run. They have items synergies, they have good stats, they’ve got an idea of what to do now.
Having never seen your channel before, I'm so happy to be introduced to your content on a reaction to my favorite game OST ever. I'm amazed at how spot on you are about what would be happening during the game at the moments these pieces are playing. I would HIGHLY suggest giving the rest of the Risk of Rain soundtracks (both the first and second games and DLC for RoR2) a listen as they truly are phenomenal. Also, Chris' album commentaries available on his TH-cam channel are fascinating to listen to and I think you would enjoy them as well 😁
25:25 "it's like you're introducing a new character" oh me oh my, that is so brutally correct. Him and all of plot unfolding right in front of you when you step out of that corridor. Insanely well designed by the entire team.
Con letidud parasosa does ita job perfectly, it plays on the most lore imporotant area and introduces the lore and preparing you for minos where you're gonna need a bigger ukelele plays which in itself does a great job
I'd love to see you react to some of the boss themes from risk of rain 2. "Thermodynamic equilibrium" and "the face of the deep". This game has so much more bangers. Edit: I always love how your eyes look like they need to see the music more.
If I had to be honest about why I love specifically “the rain formerly known as purple” it’s because it was the turning point of the soundtrack for me. I played through the game and really enjoyed the music, but when I got to the level with this track it just kind of quietly started and I ran through the level fighting guys and basically ignoring it. It’s basically asking you to forget about it so it can sit in the back of your head, and when you finally notice the music again you don’t even realize you’ve been moving to the beat for several minutes now, and it just hits you like a bag of bricks with how groovy it is. After hearing the whole track through I was able to listen back to the rest of the soundtrack feeling more in tune with the music then when I started.
21:44 those four notes, that simple pattern, 2 groups of two, either ascending or descending depending on the energy of the piece, is heard a lot in monsoon, risk of rain 1s most iconic piece.
fun fact: (this used to be true, maybe still is) the beginning section of 'con lentitud poderosa' before that beautiful electric guitar kicks in actually lasts from when you arrive at the moon to when you see the huge structure Mithrix (final boss) is located, if you walk at normal speed. I find this touch to be really nice, as it gives the player realisation that there is no teleporter here. no way to escape through any other way. the only way out is by taking Mithrix down; and i love that.
I just discovered this channel through the algorithm. Absolutely lovely breakdown and I could see by your eyes and facial reactions how much you enjoyed the music. The rain formerly known as purple is my favorite ost (one of all time honestly) so I'm glad that's one of the ones you reacted to ❤
So glad you're approaching this beauty of a game! I do hope there is more!! May I also suggest Outer Wilds? Perhaps the best soundtrack of any game I have ever heard. (won multiple awards) Awesome stuff SPG!!
This is amazing. Love the additions you made with your violin. In regards to other game osts, I think you’d be intrigued by Rimworld. It’s basically space western.
When you said that the start of con lentitud poderosa was like astronauts playing in spaces was perfect. In the game, you find out that Mithrix and the previous game's last boss, Providence were brothers. Not only that but they had a connection, with one of the item's description saying "Two brothers, chasing glass frogs in the sun.", but in the end they had conflicting ideologies. Providence, obsessed with life and soul, and Mithrix, obsessed with power and practicality, which ended with Providence imprisoning Mithrix in the moon.
One thing i have to REALLY elaborate is the scenery we get with con lentitud poderosa. After fighting hoards of monsters on 5 different stages you finally get to the last stage, you appear in an insanely huge room with a slope in front of you going upwards, once you reach the end of the slope you go through a long tunnel with some broken down pillars and ruin-like structures on the walls, but otherwise empty. Then when you finally get to the end of that tunnel, you are hit by the full view of the very bright and white moon in front of you, contrasting the dark and wet area you just left, hitting you with the electric guitar.
I would love to see a reaction for brutal orchestra, very strange game with a very strange (and unbelievably good) soundtrack! Right as the music pulled back at 6:02 was when I hit the teleporter to continue looping and I couldn’t help but smile because I knew the timing was dead on. An overloading worm erupting out of the ground to the drop of the beat was what cemented the ost as something I won’t forget.
Damn I need to play the game.
Fun fact about that motif: There isn't a single song in either soundtrack that doesn't use it.
Both the times, I felt a sense of "They gave up. Now all that remains is **Him** and thats it."
YOU ACTUALLY DID IT! I never expected my request to actually go into a video! you are by far my favorite youtuber out there and you have earned my subscription
It was yours and everyone's request, a team effort.
Wow...I never knew that 'The Rain Formerly Known as Purple' had such a beautiful ending!
By the time the guitar solo starts heating up I'm thinking I gotta get goin or I'm gonna get one shot by an overloading brass contraption
it is an omage to the ending of Prince's Purple Rain, you should listen to both of them thoroughly to enjoy the connections
That part definitely never plays in game.

I call the first one you reviewed “the one that goes ‘dudu beeewo beewo beeewobeeeeeee’”
17:07 being such a love of this soundtrack it pleases me to see that you are playing along with the track and not stealing the glory but melding yourself intricately into the song like you are a part of it. well done!
Every time he whips out the v-olin it feels like popping open champagne

I was playing through RoR2 with a friend and we went to the final stage for his first time. He’d picked up a hell fire tonic and had stacked so many tonic afflictions he slowed to crawl whenever the tonic wasn’t up. So making our way out of the temple took so much time that we only made it out just as Con Lentitud Poderosa really hit the moment. It was such a powerful moment, coming out onto the surface with music somehow in sync.
Hellfire tonic is the AOE burn, you mean Spinel Tonic?😅
If you get a tonic and 4 gestures (unlocked by making hermit crabs walk off a cliff) you get 100% uptime on it

i always get a wicked grin when people in the know of musical production or creation sit down and really can feel out the skill on display for RoR2's soundtrack
@@arkvoodleofthesacredcrotch6060yeah
Drizzle finally has a use then
Worth noting that "...con lentitud poderosa" is a cover of the theme from the 1st game, a song called "Coalescence", by the same artist.
Yeah I'd be totally in love with a full OST reaction DLC included.
Please do this:)
yeah i hate seeing someone "react" to a soundtrack but it's only 2 songs
I always do love seeing people react to RoR2s mind-boggling OST, though I always wonder each time I look at one of these videos,
did they see the reference of purple rain?
After 1 listen of Purple Rain by Prince and 1 listen of The Rain Formerly Known as Purple, you can see the "slight" referencing in it.
Although I respect his musical legacy, I never really got into Prince's music (personal preference) so it wasn't familiar to me but good info to know.

It's gonna happen more than once :p

I also love that the soundtrack also plays a factor in the game, as when the music gets more intense, that's a queue that you've spent too much time on the stage. It's a masterpiece of a soundtrack that just keeps on giving!
was literally just listening to your reactions of the Pizza Tower ost and I was wondering if you did Risk of Rain yet, best coincidence ever
Into the Doldrums and Terra Pluviam are two more iconic tracks from the OST that I feel like are often overshadowed. Would recommend pretty much the entire Risk of Rain OST (including the first game) but definitely check out those two tracks if you want more!! ;)
I have to agree, some of the best tracks imo
always good to see fellow Terra pluviam enjoyers
Since not a lot of people do it, I highly recommend the Subnautica soundtrack. It is sooo slept on tbh
I second this
OH HELL YEA!
Subnautica’s ost is SO atmospheric, it’s so good
Yes! Absolutely more Risk of Rain 2 please! I deeply love, and recommend, the song "Once in a Lullaby" if you end up doing more.
Probably my favorite DLC song

Yes, I've wanted to see this for a long time. The risk of rain 2 ost revised my love for music and it's thrilling to see it get attention from other talented music producers
Side note: If you want to check out more songs from this game may I recommend "Once in a lullaby" "They might as well be dead" and "A boat made from a sheet of newspaper"😊
I just happened upon this channel early before work, and -I'm- mesmerized by your little extra additions to the music. I love hearing people's reactions, but you also transformed the music beyond. Just wow
You have such a deep love and appreciation for music and I felt like I experienced the music right along with you. You are so expressive and entertaining, keep up the great work!
Wow, thank you so much!! I appreciate the support!
Loved listening to this. The atmosphere to me felt a lot like Blade Runner. You were right about it being perfect for your improvs. Amazing!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you RG!
Vangelis was one of Chris Christodoulou's primary influences
Man those moments when you were playing along with the electric violin were amazing. I'd listen to a whole album of you playing along to the RoR2 soundtrack.
You're one of the rare few people I see acknowledge this
Holy shit, new to the channel and seeing that electric violin come out and realizing you were going to play along was so exciting. What a pleasant surprise. The instrument is amazing, and you play it so well. What a cool element to add to your reaction, a real conversation with the music.
I absolutely loved your improv near the end. It really captured the endlessness, hope, fear, and everything in between.
I love watching your videos! I wanna get into music and making my own and seeing you explain everything that’s going on is just fascinating! :)
Go for it!
23:50 transition for me sounds incredibly inspired by King Crimson
"Purple formerly known as Rain" giving me some Jazz-Wave vibes, like chill 80-s (also i can hear Rain in this music)
I love how you can see at 23:50 is when he realizes that the song is about to slam down onto 'The Drop', sh*t was about to go down in that instant.
The ones in the "Survivors of the void" DLC are amazing as well, the composer explores different ideas while mantaining the formula and expanding on it, its wonderful.
watching you groove to the song made me happy. this game is my current fixation and the soundtrack BLEW me away when i listened to it. such a huge inspiration for my own music, thanks for the video! you put the feelings it evokes into great words. it feels nice to have such kinds of music be so highly praised
10:01 when this part of the song kicks in, i get tempted to stop and listen to it in the game, but you're encouraged to keep moving and keep moving fast. it's amazing
the joy I felt seeing you pull out the electric violin to jam out - what a perfect combination!
21:45
Fun Fact!
Loved your reactions and commentary on the tracks... but heck amazing job playing along with them too! A+
Thanks so much!!

I love how you can tell he is watching this on Chris's youtube channel because when the drop hits, his screen lights up his face (which it was already doing on its own, lol) at the same point where the video swaps from a black frame to a white frame instantly.
You absolutely earned yourself another subscriber because seeing the way you react to the music genuinely makes me feel like I’m sitting down with a friend to vibe and appreciate the art of sound. Also the covers you done were glorious, can’t wait to vibe with you more, keep up the awesome work!
I absolutely love Chris's music, i was expecting to just see another breakdown of the RoR2 soundtrack with some interesting commentary but this is so awesome! I was not at all expecting to see someone pull out their own instrument and add on! That's so cool to see!
One of my absolute favorites, I'm glad you're loving it so far :D
P.S. That second song is timed perfectly if you have no speed boosts to start the guitar as you come out of the tunnel and see the giant looming tower platform the final boss is on with a backdrop of the planet you've been on. (You are now on the planets moon) So you were right on the money
If you have no speed boosts by stage 5 you're doing something wrong.

I have never heard that instrument in my life but its absolutely divine. Beautiful work here.
"Chopin in space" has got to be the best description of the behinning of con lentitud poderosa that ive heard. Made me chuckle a bit.
So glad you're reacting to this! If you do a part 2 of this the theme of the final boss "We're gonna need a bigger ukulele" is insanely good, I think you'd love it!
I've watched a few musical reactions from others but i must admit i love yours. There's something that makes it unlike the others, you analyse but you FEEL it and in a sincere way that makes me vibe with you with the extra bonus of great violin parts in the end. Awesome job love you man!

I am so happy this video exists. I have been looking forward to your view on this soundtrack for quite a while now. Just starting in, but as always looking forward to your take.
surprised nobody mentioned how "the rain formerly known as purple" is a beautiful tribute to Prince
Different generation most likely. And even I who is an 80s kid never really got into Prince's music so I have no nostalgia for it whatsoever. Personal preference.
having listened to this OST for hundreds of hours, your addition felt near perfect since you understood the music pretty much at its core.
for the second track, that is the final level music, its a big set up to not only give you the wonder of the level but to hype up the final boss.
Fun fact the original name for "your gonna need a bigger ukulele", was "once a lullaby". Funny he mentioned it as a space lullaby
*Smooth Jazz to listen to while oneshotting malachite brass contraptions on loader*
This was my experience as well. It feels like music that is playing in the background of a dream.
i really love that electronic violin rendition that you add in. Like , genuinely.
I really really hope he does the survivors of the void dlc soundtrack for this game! It has my favorite pieces by far!
21:44 those four notes, that simple pattern, 2 groups of two, either ascending or descending depending on the energy of the piece, is heard a lot in monsoon, risk of rain 1s most iconic piece.
The Purple Rain solo, featured in The Rain Formerly Known as Purple, is in my top 5 greatest guitar riffs of all time. It’s absolutely legendary.
fun fact: (this used to be true, maybe still is) the beginning section of 'con lentitud poderosa' before that beautiful electric guitar kicks in actually lasts from when you arrive at the moon to when you see the huge structure Mithrix (final boss) is located, if you walk at normal speed. I find this touch to be really nice, as it gives the player realisation that there is no teleporter here. no way to escape through any other way. the only way out is by taking Mithrix down; and i love that.
The Raindrop that fell to The Sky is and will be my favorite.
super chill
Would recommend the tracks Amphibious army, Vertigo, Feel the Rhythm, and Zanguango. I mean I would recommend listening to the whole thing, but those are the songs that I just remember off the top my head the most.
We need more of Chris art on this channel!
