Great video, Kim. Thank you! I actually live in China atm and got myself a Max version of the SU7 a month ago. Love driving it around, the best car I ever had, the previous being a BMW M5 Competition. The only negative was the 6 month wait for the delivery as the demand is HUGE over here. Went to the factory, too, to see the 700 robots making the car with one car coming out of the assembly line every 76 seconds. So much for the cheap labor. Will bring it with me once my time is up here.
We will have to see how fast the SU7 Ultra actually is (the one she mentions in the video is a prototype SU7, not at all production), but I think there is a good chance the production SU7 Ultra will beat both the Model S Plaid and the Taycan Turbo GT on the nurburgring.
AITO M9, most popular SUV over $70000 USD in China, sold about 17000-19000 cars each month. GLE, X5, Q7 sales are much worse than before now, only several thousands each month now. Still one of the biggest market for those cars.

Government subsidies have stopped in 2020, so car companies that can no longer get easy money from the government can only find ways to sell cars around the world.

You caught me with the "Xiaomi SU7" in the title! 😃👍 But all the others - BYD, MG... 🤩 I spent the first 20 years of my life behind the iron curtain. We were sad that our "choice" for cars was limited to Trabant, Wartburg and with lots and lots of luck maybe Škoda, Lada and Dacia - period. I had never ever in my worst nightmares imagined that our politicians who praise the free trade for the benefit of the consumer for the best products for the best prices create again such barriers - 35 years after the political changes in Europe. WE in the "free" West get shitty, overpriced products while we see better, cheaper products, letting us feel like 2nd class consumers or citizens of the so called "3rd world". I don't want an ugly VW iD.3 or iD.4 for double of the price that the Xiaomi with the Tesla-like firmware and Porsche-like exterior design and power like both of them can offer. 😥 Let's see how long the politicians on both sides of the big pond will prohibit the own voters to buy the best products available! 😬
@supercadet111 Well, there is a BYD dealer in Berlin, too. But I'd never buy a car there. The service network is... almost non-existent. And I like the Xiaomi. 😉
how could a iD.3 cost double the price of a su7? shouldn't it be the other way around? exactly how much they ask for in Europe? in China iD.3 starts from rmb 113.9k, roughly 14.8k euros

I got my Su7max in October, which I had been waiting for an entire 6 months. I must say that this car does have some notable shortcomings: 1. With 673hp my tolerance for slower cars ahead has decreased significantly during daily driving, and the probability of me shouting expletives has increased notably. 2. The rear passenger space in the Su7 is a bit cramped. Being a 6ft tall man, I find it difficult to stretch out comfortably. Other Chinese automotive brands tend to prioritize rear passenger comfort. 3. The height of the trunk opening is too low. If you place something like a medium-sized storage box from IKEA at the opening, you'll find that the trunk cannot be closed. 4. The frameless design of the rearview mirrors looks cool, but in fact, it's a hassle because the lenses are exposed, and even slight collisions can cause them to shatter. Apart from these, every other aspect is astonishingly excellent.
Wow, it actually smart to bring these cars to US and show the people the range of options available outside of US. Sort of education and sort of putting pressure on the regime. Almost like Tiktok, the regime wants to ban but people's power seem to defy the ban.
To answer your question about what would happen if Chinese cars were allowed: In an open market, American cars would likely struggle. Take Saudi Arabia as an example: in the 80s and 90s, American cars dominated the market. Fast forward to 2024, and their sales have dropped significantly, mostly limited to large SUVs. If you have two dealerships side by side, one offering cars priced between $35,000 and $55,000, and the other offering cars between $20,000 and $35,000, it’s easy to see where most buyers would go. The key point here is that Chinese cars often provide longer warranties and more features, making them even more appealing to consumers.
Making a deal with Chinese brands instead of banning them from the market is just crazy. They can build cars in the US for the US and boost American brands with joint-ventures.
However, consider this: why should the Chinese help the U.S. regain greatness when the U.S. government continues to accuse China of cheating and stealing, while simultaneously employing shameless and underhanded strategies to divide the nation? The current U.S. leaders are tarnishing the goodwill and reputation that previous generations built with China since the end of World War II, particularly among the younger Chinese generation. If you were Chinese, would you be willing to assist the USA? I imagine the Chinese might respond with, "No thanks. Americans can keep their market and enjoy their expensive cars. We're more interested in engaging with nations and people who treat us with mutual respect. Thankfully, the world doesn't revolve solely around the USA."
@kaixu1026 its a great response. Actually im telling these things because of Xi's motivation. He always tells this he says China can cooperate with the US in every field. Im pretty sure there is not a problem between American people and Chinese people. And history showed up us American companies and Chinese companies were great partners, and hope they will continue to be.
One of the biggest reasons for lower costs of Cinese EVs is the battery cost. Batteries are 30%-50% of an entire EV''s cost. China produces all the rare earths needed for EV batteries and BYD is the best battery producer in the world. Their batteries cost a fraction of those made in the west mainly due to better technology. BYD supplies Tesla, Hyunda, Kia and many other brands including the Chinese ones. This is a huge reason why Chinese EVs are not only less expensive but better.
I gave up my reservation of Tesla Roaster 2 and placed an order for Xiaomi Su7 Ultra, which is an upgrade version of Su7 for 1000 horsepower. Can't wait to see it in Mar 2025.
My boss came back from business trip from China- He said there are even cheaper EVs there but only sold in mainland China- like $3000 and $5000 EVs too and they aren't worse, just less range. Also said USA is about 30 years behind of China and sorry to see Americans paying 3x-4x more money for Evs or not even having much choices.
US nowadays is not the place where you can find the best in town, China is where you need to go if you want the best. In US, everything China is national security while in China, the best always welcomed even if it’s from US.

Why not bring the Chinese EV makers into the US and let them become part of the US auto makers?
western countries keep saying that Chinese cars are cheaper because of the government subsidies...I will be really happy to get the free money from their government to buy the nicer but cheaper cars. 😀
Government subsidies have stopped in 2020, so car companies that can no longer get easy money from the government can only find ways to sell cars around the world.

The biggest factor that affects the cost is not manpower, but yield. I got my Su7max in October, which I had been waiting for an entire 6 months. I must say that this car does have some notable shortcomings:
No wonder the US government wants high tariffs on these cars. Us auto makers can't compete.
Obviously the Xiaomi SU7! What a car!

To answer your question about what would happen if Chinese cars were allowed:
In an open market, American cars would likely struggle.

One of the biggest reasons for lower costs of Cinese EVs is the battery cost. Batteries are 30%-50% of an entire EV''s cost. Their batteries cost a fraction of those made in the west mainly due to better technology. BYD supplies Tesla, Hyunda, Kia and many other brands including the Chinese ones.
