How To Fix Your Outdoor Spigot Anti-Siphon Valve Leak

- Today I had to fix some leaks around my property which were resulting in wasted water. I fixed my anti-siphon valve on my outdoor spigot and replaced all the old hose washers around the yard with new fancy washers that will give me better water-tight seals in all my irrigation equipment.
Most people neglect both of these maintenance tasks even though they are both very easy and cheap to stay on top of, especially if you want to use (and waste) less water in the yard or garden.
Make sure to see this video as a follow-up to learn more about irrigating a lawn and being less wasteful throughout the season.

Thanks so much!! I took a look at mine and all that happened is it got out of the correct orientation (I guess from freezing/thawing during winter) so I was able to reorient it, and it worked fine. Thanks again for the great, helpful video! (I DO need to get to the hardware store and get that pack of premium washers to keep handy.)
I have been ignoring my new leak for a few weeks now. It's the O ring on my quick connect leaking and is an easy fix that I really should fix...
Thank you for not being irritated by your kiddo. You can tell with how polite he asked that you all have a good life going.
Those gaskets and o rings are the easiest things to replace but so annoying we all neglect them way to much. Good luck! Also, I learned long ago that life is just better when the kids want to get involved be it watching or "helping" so I try to embrace that as much as possible.
This was so helpful, mine had exploded as well after a hard winter and I thought I had to replace the whole spigot. You saved me a ton of money and time.
Got 2 things to say: THANK YOU! for making video not only about grass, love it when folks include the entire lawn! and I got bad luck with valve leaks seems as soon as I fix one another breaks inside or outside lol I think when it comes to valves I am cursed lol.
Thank you very much ! ! I had no idea why it leaked. I couldn't replace it without your video !!
That's awesome to hear! Glad this was a big help for you :)
With 12 zones, I'm so thankful I have well-water! It seems like that's all I'm doing is fixing leaks. Great tips to save money and conserve water!
That's a dizzying amount of zones! I've got to put some effort in to maintaining my heads next. A few of them don't look to be performing as well as they did last year.

Not bad, and great timing!
I just had a HUGE LEAK around my spigot and as soon as I tried to figure it out turned out my hose was the culprit. I thought it was a bad gasket, next thing I knew the metal in the hose connector just broke off!!
Handy-dandy new hose adapter cut ✂️ in and all is like new again.
Ppl think you just buy a new hose..
WHY just cut it out fix the leak.
Great diy content Brian! (As usual)
I'll be doing a lot of hose trimming and mending over the next couple weeks prepping our garden for better irrigation. These simple fixes are skills worth learning- id like to mix in a number of vids like this into the future even though they may not seem so exciting on first glance.
Great timing! I have that exact issue on my back spigot.
Nice! Spring seems like the time to do this, I didnt even know I had a problem until our last freeze 7-10 days ago. Go fix it, it'll take you 5 minutes after you go pick up the new part!
Good video brother, thank you
Great timing for this video. Mine is leaking just like yours. Heading to the supply store tomorrow..much thanks! Love the channel!
Yay! I inspired an industrious repair! 😃 I'm sure it'll be surprisingly easy for you!
I went through this on my outdoor anti frost valve. I owned the house 5 years and didnt have a problem keeping the hose connected during winter, but eventually the carrier pipe cracked in the assembly. So half the water came out the hose and the other half spilled from the valve. Finding the right and exact replacement part is pretty annoying to say the least, since it was from one of those plumbing parts companies that supposedly had lifetime warranties but didn't exist anymore.
Make sure to disconnect your hoses and shut the valves off from inside the house, then finally drain all the residual water from the valves to prevent any type of freezing problems.
We get so complacent sometimes just assuming things will keep on working year after year. I'm the same way, I just have to remind myself that the little things eventually need maintenance so learning a bit about how they work (and fail) goes a long way. Good story Matt, thanks for sharing!
Both of my water spigots have a slow leak, I always thought that was normal since I live in SD. I guess not! Thanks for this video, im heading to the hardware store now!!
BRIAN what timing. You read my mind or something. Got leak thought I have to replace whole unit in a tough craw space. Went to two local plumbers not only had the complete Woodford kit. $26. So i got it. Fixed the problem. Ordered another valve online just to have. $6. Thank you!!!!!
Ive got two that are bad . you saved my weekend Broski !
👊
Thank you Brian.
Welcome Rich!
Great video brother 👍
Thank you much Christobal!
That was easy!!!
Thanks for sharing this. Mine is leaking but not from the siphon. When I cap it, the leak stops. The leak started after I failed to remove the hose before a big freeze. Any thoughts?
Does the water supply need to be shut off first? I noticed when you tested the repair you simply opened the faucet.
I'm sure you were relieved that your worksite passed the inspection of your cat (6:15). :)
At 0:04, what high efficiency sprinkler head do you use?
I run the Hunter MP rotators.
Siphon valve designed by the plumber union. Cheapest plastic crap they could find.
What's with all the talking, just show repair
