How to get scuba certified

  • Learn what goes into getting your scuba certification in less than minute. This is basically the scuba course in a nutshell, and a great starting point if you're still a little unsure about the whole process of becoming a diver.
This is also known as your Open Water scuba certification, or sometimes called your PADI cert, scuba license, or something like that. Scuba certification can actually be issued by a number of agencies that are recognized worldwide, like NAUI, SSI, SDI, CMAS, BSAC, and PADI.
You'll always have academics, which can be in class or eLearning, or a combination of both.
Then you'll have confined water training, which is usually a pool or super calm and controlled body of water.
Then your open water checkout dives, which is a minimum of two days at actual dive sites.
Two logged dives a year are required to stay in what is considered "active status" although it is more of a personal requirement for your own skillset.
Ages 10 to finite can learn to dive, you don't have to be a strong swimmer, and you don't have to dive or live in the ocean to become a diver (although it can be exciting!) Most courses can be completed in around 4 days on average, and can be done almost anywhere in the world.

Learning how to dive was the best decision I ever made.

Where did you go? Cost? Do I need to buy everything before I start?

@Dragandspinn you need to find an instructor that is right for you. Cost depends on where you live and what’s available in your region. It can also vary depending on what is provided and what is required. But you need to make a few phone calls and start the dialog and I promise it’ll be worth it. I have a few getting started videos on my playlist here on this channel that I think would help 🍻

New diver here. The equipment is seriously expensive. But but but … my health and safety is worth the investment to get the best equipment I can barely afford.

@lrich9317 it definitely can be, but it’s better to do like you said and wait until til you can do it right (and get what’s best for YOUR style of diving). But something I’ve seen is a lot of corners cut and then the dive gets ruined, then it costs more to replace correctly PLUS losing the dive where the breakage/malfunction happened. Best to “buy once, cry once” lol

My daughters both are certified and have already dove in Cozumel when they were 11&15! Going back at the end of July for their second round of Cozumel diving ❤. I have videos of them on my TH-cam channel

Was just wondering actually if breathing gases are bad for you? Is there a way to do a safe mixture or how does that work?

    • @alenemely

Recreational scuba uses Compressed air. Same mix as the air you're breathing right now. Other mixes require you to be certified and self verify and sign off the gas mixes Before you tank up.

"Sharks aren't really a thing" .... TH-cam sends me the next video of the spear fisher being chased to the surface....
Of course I understand that's one in a million, still makes my little booty hole tight enough you couldn't pull a pin out with a tractor...

Haha- but you beat me to the chase with “spearfisher” - for regulatordivinf and photography, you generally have to pay extra to have a chance at seeing sharks🦈 but it’s definitely worth it!

How much do these courses cost on average? I have found one but want to make sure I am paying a fair price

    • @TheScubaDivingChannel
      @TheScubaDivingChannel  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

They range wildly due to overhead of different areas (near a shore dive vs a long drive or boat, etc) But A good instructor is the main concern- a cheap course if worthless if you don’t leave comfortable diving (and excited about it) ✌️

Volume issue? I couldn't hear you at all really unless I cranked everything all the way up and it was still quiet. Maybe its on my side....
