    When he left The Cure it just wasn't the same.Very underrated musician

      I only listen to the old stuff from The Cure like when they were just starting out and such. Anything after 1990 just isn't my cup of tea or the same. So I agree T K

      Yup! The cure ended in 1990 which was a good run for a great band. Music changed so radically at that time there was no place for them.

      Eh, Disintegration is incredible, and he didn't contribute anything to it, not a note. He was dead drunk for the entirety of it's recording and they subsequently fired him.

      Don't even, when he left the band was still amazing and got eve better..however by me saying that I am not putting him down at all. The Cure is about Simon and Robert...and Porl when he has been in the band, but it is Simon and Robert, PERIOD!

      Something died when he left the band. Boris leaving was just the final nail in the coffin.

    I just finished reading it - Very moving book Lol. In parts it almost made me cry as he described the path to his downfall with alcoholism - I was also sucked in the setting that reflected my youth generation and the wonderful details of growing up in Horley which was similar to my youth.
    Such a nice and humble person he is.

    This was a very good book, even a great one. I was really interested in his perspective. I haven't even really listened to the band for two decades, but I have got back into them by reading this amazing book.

    The Cure, late 1970's to 1982 were simply awesome, so all hail Lol Tolhurst who was such a huge part of it...happy memories of early gigs in Polytechnic cafeterias and the Marquee in London..what a great band they were then, right up to Pornography...

    I know you get thos quite alot but your drum aesthetic and synonymous imagery and self reflection on The Figureheadvia your initial playing of drums is something that is an art anything in itself 😊😊😊😊😊😊 God Bless you Sir truly

    Reading the book now and enjoying it very much. Revisiting The Cure's music as I read it makes it a musical journey and is adding to the story.

    Just finished reading it,great book,great man,so good to see him perform with the band again in 2011,he may underrate himself as a musician,but what would the Pornography album be without those tribal drum beats?♡&✌

    • @sovmod7863
      @sovmod7863 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      His drumming MADE the 79-82 stuff. Faith and Pornography wouldnt have been what they came to be without his drum patterns and musical/lyrical input. As Parry said, after HArtley's departure, the trio became a triangle that noone could break.

    • @youjoker9647
      @youjoker9647 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Robert came up with the general drum patterns for Pornography, not Lol.

    • @jockmaxwell8200
      @jockmaxwell8200 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You Joker Oh, thats right,even though Lol ACTUALLY played the drum parts .You could then,I suppose,say the same for Simons bass parts ,and so Robert could have just toured as a one man band.I'm sure the Pornography tour would have been fantastic!!!!

    • @sovmod7863
      @sovmod7863 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      He was just being a Joker, presumably

    • @youjoker9647
      @youjoker9647 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Robert had to help Lol. Robert came up with the drum parts & bass parts.
      Plenty of articles etc where it's been explained.
      Even Lol admitted his limited drumming skill was a reason they hired a 'proper drummer' (Lol's word) & he moved to one fingered keyboards. BTW are you Lols love child or something as you're very upset? :)

    One of my friends recently got me this as a gift and I am nearly finished. It has been such a great read, following Lol on the highs and lows. Some parts are quite heavy at times especially if you can relate in any way to depression and addiction etc. But it is well written and hard to put down!

    Lol is very much overlooked as a drummer and above all being such an integral part of The Cure. Huge respect for him and he is very down-to-earth too. I remember getting encouraging comments from him for some of my Cure covers (that I used to play with another friend during the early days of You Tube). :-)
