    I can everything. Fruit, jams, bone broth, moose, pickles. It warms me knowing younger people still can. CANNERS UNITE!

    Genius!! We have a ton of wild plumbs and wild Italian Plums that were not taken care of when we bought this home. I spent hours of removing seeds because my husband loves dehydrated plums all year around... Never again!! He'll be eating plum strips from now on with this method! I can not thank you enough!!

    This method seems to have worked well. Does it also works on cherries? I broke my cherry pitter this season.

    • @CheaperWaysNZ
      @CheaperWaysNZ  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Good idea and I think it would, as these stones are a very similar size! Never tried it myself though so would be interesting to hear back if you give it a go 🙂

    • @j7ndominica051
      @j7ndominica051 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Ok, I don't have my own cherries anymore this year. I made an observation that commercial cherries have grown considerably, because only garden cherries would fit in the pitter. I broke it with a pit stuck sideways. Garbage aluminum alloy without any elasticity.
      You are an expert fruit processor. Do you knоw if it is possible to ruin a jam or syrup by crushing some seeds of currants or gooseberries? I processed them in a blender to cut the skins, and ended with a Black Tea (red/c, threw them out) or Fishy taste (goose). I only did it enough to shred the skins, but some seeds were cut. I processed black currants with a potato masher and they turned out good. But gooseberries are too big to have whole skins. I have no control with the exact same berries. We know that some seeds have tannins and amygdalin.
      I really like a blender to make a quick job of berries, but maybe the slow route is the way to go.

      Not sure I'd say I'm a professional but certainly learning as I go! The seeds definitely do add strange flavours to things so I'd say crushing some of them would certainly add strange flavours to things - unfortunately sometimes the easy way isn't always the best!

      I got a basket of small plums. I found that I needed to cut them open because some of them had Maggots inside. I crudely separated the skins and stones. The skins were processed in a blender. Stones were boiled, cooled slightly and then processed using a hand mixer. Each plum was 20-25 grams, so it was doable. The result is smooth, drinkable, in red color from the skins.

    Do you rebuild it down once you do that for jam?

    • @CheaperWaysNZ
      @CheaperWaysNZ  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah once I've got the stones out I boil it again / add the sugar etc and start making jam from there 👍

  • @npickard
    @npickard ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hello from South Africa! I hope you can help :-) I want to make jam from a fruit known as Stam Vrugte (Englerophytum magalismontanum) - the pit is similar to a Litchi but the flesh of the fruit REALLY sticks to the pit - Unlike a litch where you can squeeze the fruit off the pit. The Stam Vrugtepit is also smooth, and very bitter if you bite into it. Any advice? Thank you!

    • @CheaperWaysNZ
      @CheaperWaysNZ  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey - I just had to look that up as I've never heard of it before! I'm not sure if the method I used here for the plums would work? Before this method I'd just boil them up really well and use a slotted spoon to smoosh them onto the side of the bowl and fish the pits out ... must more labour involved that way of course! Hope you find a solution 🙂
