I hosted Guitar Night at our church back in those days and would bring it once in a while to living things up a bit. It was an acoustic guitar and other instruments play and sing along type thing. The piano was nice because the real ones are just too loud in a group like this.
Thanks. This is just what I needed after getting my GR-55 2wks ago. I play a wide variety of music and I'd like to come up with a formula that works for each patch. I could chang the instrumentation for fron depending on the type of music being play. My first attemp was to three sounds that I could conrol with the Ctl pedal and the Expression pedal. I wanted to set it up for a Raggae style using the Steel Drum as the first Tone, the Rock Organ as the 2nd tone, and the Model Acustic Guitar as the 3rd tone. Tones 1 & @ both turn on with the CTL switch. I only want to use that for the Steel Drums. I want to use the Exp Pedal to turn the Organ on and Off. I also want to keep the sound of the Acoustic Guitar on when either of the other two sound are on or off. Thats exactly what you had in this demo but it went by to fast for me. I'm going to subscribe to your videos because they're very informative espicially for someone whose new at this. Thanks. Kevin Murphy -V.P. of the Grand Rapids Federation of Musicians Local 56.
Your video is very useful. Thanks a lot !!! I have the same prboblem aw the "cast390" but one thought is maybe we have to go first for initializing the hole patch. I don't know , it's a thought. But i want to ask something different now . HOW i can make different settings of the control pedal and of the expression pedal for every single patch that i'm using ??? Thanks in advance
I don't think it has a global setting for a default mode in every patch. I could be wrong though. If I understand your question correctly. I think you have to go into each patch and set it up the way you want it. Hope that helps.
TheGospelGuitarist Ooops actually, I have NOT! I just thought I did. The video I linked to above is on the EXP ON tab, next is the EXP SW. I'll will have to get on that! Stay tuned! Maybe tomorrow. It looked simple enough.
Thank you very much for your reply my friend !!! But when i make a certain setting to one patch in the "user" section , it is applied to all the other "user" patches....... :(((
Maybe you need to activate it within the patch or something. I know that on some patches items are not available because they have not been 'turned on' so to speak. You can't edit the settings for an item not engaged. Explore the patch you are using and make sure the pedal is active for that patch would be my suggestion. I am not an expert on this thing yet but I do know you have to do some digging sometimes to get what you want. ;)
Hello! first of all congratulations for videos. I'm having trouble setting up my guitar godin concert grand with the Roland GR55. It happens that can only operate on synthesizer volume because the pure guitar volume does not appear. That's just get the sounds synthesized via Mid cable with no possibility of playing only the sounds of own guitar. How should I proceed?I appreciate your attention.
sidmar bordao There are several ways to get the normal guitar sound. 1: turn on the "Normal" tone in the patch which is usually off if you want the guitar pickups to be heard out of the l/r output section. 2: Setup the' guitar out' jack to run your normal guitar pickups through a separate amp. The guitar out jack only carries the guitar modeling and raw guitar pickups without the synth tones. Hope that helps, read up on the guitar out jack in the manual.
Hi., maybe you can help me... when I push the master button I have no choice for control pedal options it just says ***system*** and it is unchangeable. what have I not set or what needs to be adjusted?
Steve Principato...I had the same but when you go to system page you have again access to ctrl and expression pedal. That way I managed to assign instruments to ctrl switch...
Is there any problem with latency ou low tracking in GR 55? Have someone of you ever compared this to other GRs such as 20 , 30, 33 or any other guitar synthesizer? It seems to me that GR33 sound more “fat” sound... And how about all those guitar and amp simulations? Are they really good? I mean, could someone compare to VG 88, for example? I Just can’t try one of these alive. Thanks for the answer!
No tracking problems so far for me and pretty much everyone else is saying the tracking is better. I think the "fat" sound is dependent on your ability to eq your gear and have a good ear than it is on the hardware. I think the jury states the VG-88 is a better unit. The onboard modeling for amps and guitar are from the GT-100 which is a pretty good sounding unit to most. Never used the GR-33 or the VG-88 so I can't personally attest to the sound of those units compared to the GR-55. Whatever is used needs to be used with a full range amp and speaker setup like pa or acoustic amps .
TheGospelGuitarist Hi! I got one! =) But... Is there anybody out there facing problems with GR 55 installation on a Win XP Service Pack 2 pc? I'm trying to install the driver for Roland GR 55 on my computer, but it shows "unknow device". Already tried to reinstall the driver, change de usb plug, but nothing worked up to now. Thanks for your help!

TheGospelGuitarist Yeah, I'm trying really hard since last monday but no way... But I thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping anyway. I'll keep trying, I work with this, so I really need to solve the problem...
***** Download IO Bit's "Uninstaller" from MajorGeeks and do a complete uninstall using this program. It hunts down all traces within the registry file of the installation of the drivers and software. Unplug and power down the GR-55 from the computer. Load the install program again and when it tells you, then plug in and turn on the GR-55. The actual drivers are in the GR-55, the "Driver" install program is just making it possible for the Win OS to recognize the GR-55 I guess. After a minute or so the GR-55 will report it's installing the drivers on your computer screen. I've done more than one install myself on Win 7 to connect, it just seems to decide not to work sometimes. Don't forget, if you want to back up your settings in the gr-55, use a thumb drive in the GR-55 itself. Easier than using the Floorboard software. Hit a few menu buttons and you're done vs. booting the computer connecting the GR-55 and loading the Floorboard software. Hope this helps, I figured maybe you might be doing things in the wrong order someplace. ☺
TheGospelGuitarist IO Bit Uninstller simple doesn't work. I tried a more difficult method and it also didn't work... Really desapointed. But I thank you very much anyway, u at least tried to help me, most of the people simple ignore.
I guess the Last Resort may be in order. Contact Roland about the driver issue. I would highly recommend upgrading to Win 7 at least. XP is a plaque of problems. I didn't want to let XP go either, but a few years ago I installed 7 and wow what an OS. Let me know what happens if you get going so I can pass it to others, you won't be the last.
I tend to focus on the instruction rather than the demo of it when all set up. I should start adding a little demo of what I am doing huh. Thanks for the comment it helps me to know what you people really want to see in my videos.
After messing around with it I could not find a way to assign say a pedal boost..someone please clue us in if you know how to do it. Within the patch you are using if you are not using all of the tones, you could create a lead tone on say 1 and a rhythm tone on 2 and when you need that lead boost hit the ctl which you can assign to tone 2 (lead) designed with more volume. It only has mod, mfx (I am thinking there is a way in the mfx but haven't figured it out yet), reverb, delay, chorus and amp ect., but none of the individual stomp boxes show up in the listing for assignments to the CTL switch. I am thinking if you are using the MFX in the modeling chain you should be able to engage a stomp box for a boost in there. But it would turn on/off the entire MFX chain, not just one box in the chain. Maybe it can be assigned to the CTL switch within the MFX? So I am thinking having 2 tones within the patch will cover it for you. Anyone else? Speak up!
TheGospelGuitarist OK, I've got your solution. I did this using the "LP+STACK" preset. After hitting the edit button go into the 'EFFECT' tab and set the MFX section to use the compressor. Adjust the comp to the amount of gain you want using the CTL switch to do live comparision on/off to get it the way you want it. Then go into the 'Master" tab and then the CTL setting icon to the left to set the CTL switch to MFX. Save your patch. Now the CTL switch will turn on the compressor to give you that boost you need along with some nice compression to push it over the top. Thanks for a great question. I really need to do a video on this since a lot of us like to boost the leads. The other way to get a boost is to choose 'amp simulation' instead of 'compressor'. You can change to a completely different amp model for your solos instead of just a boost all within this Tone bank. Pretty cool. Hope this helps!
Hey thanks a lot. I will try this. What I did in the mean time is - I made the volume pedal go from 80% heal down and 100% toe down. That way I get the volume up and can easily get back to the sound checked level. Again thanks for your help!!!!
Umm. Don't know what you're doing there. If you do what I do in this video it should only effect the single patch. Are you remembering to "write" the new patch setting before going into other patches or something?
Thank you for your video I’m still learning how to use the gr55 with my godin multiac Want to use it for church worship

Thank you for your time in making this tutorial. I found it very helpful.
Amazing video! Thank you for taking the time to create these. What a nice thing to do!!
You are welcome! Thanks for the kind comment!

Good information I need information to add d string to sound in bass split mode

Great GR55 vids Mike! You still haven't hit the next switch though. (EXP SW) Give it hell my man! I'm learning allot from you!

Dan Bourget Ok buddy, it's up!
Thanks for your tutorial but under the PEDAL screen your lookin at mine just say system and I cant select anything on the CTL page.
same here but i found that if you go to the system tab, you can program it from there just as he is doing it.
Great lesson! Thank you!
Thank you !!!
Thank you very much for your reply my friend !!!

My be a 3 yrs video
But great instruction… help a lot thanks …
You’re very welcome, thanks for the comment!
great video
Hi...Does the GR-55 have HAR / ARP CONTROL as the GR-33 ... ??? ...Thanks...
I don’t own the unit anymore and don’t know/remember what har and arp control is.

Wish I could hear you play in one of these clips. Just saying. Very helpful though. :)
Great tutorial...
How do i use the control switch to toggle between 6 and 12 string guitar?
You need to assign the 12 string to the control switch within the settings of the 12 string.

thanks for the video I learned something
All I am trying to do! Glad you learned from it.
Hi. Still there? I have an exp pedal question.
I’m here. Don’t have the unit but I do have the pdf manual. Fire away and I’ll try to answer your question.

Why in some patches the ctl is on by defect?
How to change it ?
Go into the patch setting and turn it off then save the patch
now i realize that....thank you!!!
