Ghost notes are occurring not only with the 13-pins pick-up but also when using the Roland GK-3B (for bass guitars). Changing the values of the filters and the velocity in the GR-55 can help in reducing the frequency of occurrence of those ghost notes.
Thanks for all of the tutorial videos on the gr55. I have reached out to rms in the last few days and he states that he still sells the opt board, version 2 now... I just bought a gr 55 last week, going to install the gk3 on a an American strat and see how it works, I have a les Paul with a gk 3 which was paired up with a gr20.... was the best set up at the time, the synth tech has come a long way since then, the gk pickup on the les Paul is about 8 years old, and I was never super happy with the tracking and the ghost note problems... I used the same guitar to try out the gr55... it tracked a lot better right out of the box but.... still had the ghost note issues... I’m going to install the gk3 that came with the gr 55 on my strat and see how it goes.... Thanks for all the info..... seems like the opt1 made a huge difference on your rig...
I have a Godin XtSA. If you have an extra 161.00 dollars to blow i'd say give it a try, but you're only going to get about a 25.00 dollar difference in tracking
Very informative, Thanks. I have same guitar and just bought GR-55 and found this issue: - I can only play PCM sounds when volume knob is not all the way up. If I turn it up the synth sound mutes. Have you experienced the same issue or it just me? Thank you.
Hi Kennis dunno if you will see my question this video is very old. But I bought a GR 55 around same time as you. Is yours still working? My screen no longer works, so I can't edit. But now my 2nd bank is not working. All I can use is my 3rd bank with my personal edits I use regularly. I was just curious. My GR55 has been the foundation of my most of my recordings, since I no longer play live anymore.
I bought the opt01filter a few months ago, but at the time I didnt have my Godin Freeway SA with the transducer bridge pickup to test it once I installed it. All I had was my two GK-3 equipped guitars. And I didn't see any video on your channel regarding how it works with the GK-3, I will make a claim that it does not affect GK3 at all. Works just as great as it was before I even installed the filter. :-) but now I have my Godin freeway SA, and I can say it works probably about the same way you are demonstrating it in your video. I kind of forgot how the Godin Freeway sounded in the gr-55 been as it has been awhile since I played it through it. I have always been using the GK 3 equipped guitars. I just don't like the action and the radius of the guitar neck on this Freeway :-)
Not a problem dude :-) I figured to make a comment on this as I do use the gk3 all the time. If it wasn't for the neck on the Godin Freeway, I probably using it more. :-)
thanks for this information and video Kennis. How do I contact Richard McClish? Also, is the OPT-01 user installable or does it require some knowledge of soldering and electronics? Thanks.
Great video Kennis. I go back to the Roland Gr-707. This ghost not issue has been there since forever. Roland could not incorporate something like the RMC OPT-01 themselves? I have the GR-55 and think it is one more in a long line of Roland's "Silicon Snake Oil". Each product got more expensive than the last. So disappointing.
It would be nice if Roland would address this issue with their product. I can see this could bring up warranty issues. I've noticed staying away from frets w harmonics helps (5, 7, 12, etc.) Is this an internal mod that requires soldering etc ? More info please on the actual installation
Kennis, thanks for that. Mr McClish Kudos - very innovative. Why didnt Roland do that indeed? I've had a GR55 for several years and this really annoyed me but I just decided it was unavoidable. I am a very clean picker (use fingers instead of pick and palm damping) but it doesn't help at all on some settings. So I use my older GR-20 with a midi keyboard (NB not possible with GR-55) on my DAW, to get around the 'ghost sounds' (as you call them). This mod is certainly an improvement but probably not as good as using the alternative. if its not too expensive will get sub sonic filter. Thanks for sharing, this really surprised me.

Hey guys! What is the tracking/latency like if one plays through the Roland ready GC-1 strat and GR-55? Is it really disappointing? How about the distortions/amp simulations? Alternate tunings? I want to add these both to my current gear but am really apprehensive at the same time because its a lot of money!
Hi Kennis, I have a Ibanez RG1520GK 13 pin of course and I'm getting conflicting information in regards to if this OPT-01 product would clean up the ghost notes, Roland states that the guitar has a piezo on the RG1520GK is purely a pickup for the Roland Midi system, if I knock on the guitar I get the Ghostnotes etc. Richard states that the guitar has aGK-2 divided magnetic driver. Unfortunately, the OPT-01 will help the tracking much with the GK drivers because the problem with those is noise and string-to-string crosstalk, not subsonic frequency generation. Very confusing please help.
Hello Kennis, thanks for the vid. I have the GK-3B, will this mod work at the lower frequency as well? I also checked the price on the rmc opt-01 I believe it is over priced at a $140 not including $17 shipping, in contrast to the pickup controller and the actual GR-55 unit itself. Is there any other device available that can be used, and doesn't rip a whole in your pocket?
I did contact roland support about the issue, and they helped me fine tune my pick up and synth which did make some difference. I do still have some ghosting, but its more manageable now.
So you showed the ghost noted before, then installed the Option 1 and adjusted the sensitivity? Why when doing a comparison video in a before and after would you adjust the sensitivity? Just saying, it doesnt give a real comparison.
Thanks for the video, I was wondering whether there would be much difference with the filter installed. I did contact Roland regarding this and they have yet to reply. I think I will go ahead and contact Richard. Best regards.
I had/am having that same problem with my xtSA. I have 3 other Roland synth pickup guitars....Godin told me that wasn't an issue, that this filter was installed in that guitar. They said adjust sensitivity. Why should I have to? I think it's the Godin. I just got a Variax Standard....I'm gonna put a GK3 on it. I have NEVER had tracking problems like this before.
