YES!! I purchased three from Amazon, so when I get another camera I can have a consistent look and mounting options as well as being able to mount other people's cameras if and when I do a collaboration and I don't know what they have. You, sir, are awesome.
Bad idea: Using its hotshoe to mount a camera. The hotshoe is designed to hold only the weight of a flash. A better cage would be secured at the body eyelets(for the neck strap). Smallcage does that for the fujiXt3.
Thanks so much for sharing this. I had interest in a cage, but at the prices they are I thought I'd pass for now. This one seems much more reasonable for sure and your real world use gives me more confidence in it too.
good points well explained in a simple yet finely made video ... i'm wondering though if we're not supposed to put a lot of pressure on a camera's hot-shoe (and that's surely correct and for good reasons too!) then why this rig (or others for that matter) do require the hot-shoe as a second securing spot in addition to the camera's bottom plate's tripod screw as well? yes, it's done for making sure the camera's going to be "ruggedly" attached to the rig, but then when we add other peripherals on top of the rig we'd also put quite a sum of pressure on the camera's hot-shoe as well, wouldn't we?
The only problem with this setup is that it won't accommodate a Nikon Z-mount FTZ adapter natively -- there's not enough clearance from the bottom plate to mount the FTZ. I ended up leaving my Smallrig grip attached to the Z6 (which increases the clearance enough to accommodate the FTZ adapter) then installed the whole thing on the Camvate cage. Works really well now. Another solution would be to buy the Z6 battery pack -- the extra battery would come in handy. The flexibility of the Camvate cage really shines here. I use it with a Rode NTG shotgun mic and my Nikon 500PF for wildlife. Plenty of room to add the Atomos Ninja V now as well. Great setup and love the top handle. (The side handle isn't needed.)
@wolfcrow How quickly can one get the camera in and out of the cage again? When switching to a gimbal for example. Could it be modified (like adding a QR plate adatapter)? Would that work? Tnx for the good info you put into the interwebs!
I really like this and you make perfect sense: universal modular parts ftw! Then I look at the new Smallrig cage for the 6k pro and I'm thinking: that's nice how they integrate the T5 mounting point to the cage; and I like the idea of those cable locking mounts... So tempting. Lots of trade-offs to consider.
hey thanks for superb informative videos ,as they are precise and detailed as compared to others. but please provide the link for India too, that from where we can buy here.
I recommend SmallRIg. I have the full SmallRig cage for my BMPCC4K, and it cost me $79 delivered. And the way the cage is designed, I do believe it protects the sides, top and bottom of my camera. Either way, the cage has many points of attachment where I can add accessories of many configurations. The cage shown in this video cost $89, and doesn't have that many places where you can add accessories. I'm happy with my purchase of the SmallRig FULL cage for my BMPCC4K.
"doesn't have that many places where you can add accessories." Really? It has more 1/4" and 3/8" holes than 3 small rig cages. And it has two cold shoe mounts and more surface area to hold accessories. Do you have any specific accessory in mind you think this can't hold?
The only cage youl ever need IF you have a tiny mirrorless camera , a trashed camera isnt important to your work , , i throw my camera around it has scratches and marks ???? Only amateurs care about their gear WOW i take it you get lots of work treating your gear like a pro 😂😂😂😂😂 lets hope it works by the time you get to actually use it
This video is getting old. There are small rig, tiny rig, Neewer and others made for brand specific models that are $59 dollars. If you are buying new cameras every few years 59 is not going to break the bank. I bought a tiny rig but Small rig seems to have the most option, including a clamp to squeeze clamp the HDMI port.
@@garvolt Depends where you live. My country doesn't have any import treaty with the EU or any country; If the product is over $20/20Euros, we have to pay 22-32% import tax. Yes, it's fucking unfair! But I haven't had such problems when ordering from China because Chinese sellers will declare a way lower price. I've bought a couple of smartphones (around $140 each) and they declared it as "Phone parts $10". And I just collected the package without paying anything. Every thing I've ever bought on ebay or Ali from Chinese sellers, was declared as being $10 or $5. And I'm really thankful for this.
Whats the named of the clamp you used for the HDMI cable?
It's no longer available, from Varavon: bhpho.to/2Y3XF9i.
If you're on a low budget you can always use cable ties: amzn.to/2XZwa5q
Or velcro strips....

Awesome. I agree, cages are expensive and this seems like a very nice solution. Thanks for sharing
You're welcome!
I probably bought one a couple of years ago, thanks to your suggestion and it does the job for my Bmpcc OG. Thank you.
At 13:14 - "if you like this video ..." - I LOVE this video!
You always makes us Laugh 😅
You Just said a Beautiful, Professionally looking box, seconds later you throw it like its nobody's business 😅😅😅👍🔥

You got me at 6.05. Thank you for making my day. That was one of the ugliest box I have ever seen. That line was epic...

Thanks for the video. Do you think this cage would fit the blackmagic BMCC?
How easy it is to unmount the camera from the cage? Is it possible to use manfrotto quick release plate inside cage?
Does the same brand sell a rod system with the appropriate plate that goes with the same exact set up in this video? Could you give me a link to it ?
Does side handle comes with remote trigger
Thank you so very much! I am currently in the market for a cage, and you have given me the best solution.
Great video! Just what I was looking for !

The attachment to the hot shoe I would imagine is just for rotational support. Hopefully such forces are not excessive for most hot shoes.
Does it work with a GH5 with a battery grip and does it accommodate a rod clamp for rods?

Great Solution! Have you tried this with the black magic pocket cinema 4k?
No, but it should work fine.
@@wolfcrow Thanks man, Also any mentoring session available?
What is the brand name and will it work for a Sony a7c ?
Most come only with left grip in the Uk and the top handle is very expensive.

I noticed that you’re not using an ftz adapter. This cage will not work with Nikon mirrorless cameras with the adapter, will it?

Great video, it helps me a lot!
Man you rock
Any way this rig would fit a bigger camera like a Sony FS700?
Is there a cage for Panasonic FZ1000?
@wolfcrow have you tried this camera cage with the canon R5?
Yes
Thank you, I will order today.
do a video on the cinematography of Freddie Young
Thanks dude 👍🏾
Thank you so much, I just order one from Amazon.
still want it!
Not gonna lie, the 4 million screws and 10 million hex keys might just make the buy worth it.
I would like if it was double sided.
Will the SL2 work fine with this cage?
It should.
hey
thanks for superb informative videos ,as they are precise and detailed as compared to others.

Buy it from AliExpress. It's too expensive in India: amzn.to/2Z797SW

Hahaha love the sarcasm!

The truth is cages are mostly useless except for a very limited amount of people.
why are you wearing a hat inside?
is your ceiling leaking?
thanks
You know a hat is the balding man's best friend.
it appears that it's more than $89 now
AliExpress. Everything is cheaper when it's shipped from China, and it's the exact same product American and European sellers are listing ;)
what about import duties from China in Europe?

As shown, the price is now 122€ (=133 USD) on Amazon if you live in Europe.
Sorry but, there are better cages and less expensive!!! Good video though!!! Godd luck!
Where ?
I agree I wanted to say the same thing

Man! Being an Indian when you name the price name it in rupees
