I have had the IR001 for a long time (the date code is from 2009). I bought it as a kitchen tool. Mine is blue and has a different overmold. The display looks identical. The MAX resets when I release the trigger. If pull it again before the screen blanks, it still resets. My cats love it. Two of them hear the beep and come running to chase the laser.
I buy a lot of my Ryobi tools from DT. Never can see any factory blemishes and recon products work flawlessly. Great way to save green, especially when they offer free shipping, like NewYear. I have a store about an hour and a half away. Great prices on new products. I recently got a 5Ah 40V battery for $99 and it was a 20% off day as well. Awesome deal
I just bought one today before watching this video and the battery cover is unbelievably difficult to get back on with the battery in. I hope I never have to change the battery. The only thing I wish was for the screen to be backlit so you could read it in the dark.
FYI. The color of the thing you measure will alter the result... "Emissivity is a term based on an object’s ability to emit radiated heat. The scale is from 0.1 through to 1.0, and takes into account the colour, the surface finish, and the reflective nature of the object being measured. The emissivity value 0.1 is associated with very shiny objects such as steel, whilst 1.0 is the value associated with matt black. Some infrared thermometers feature adjustable emissivity, but it is very difficult for a user to accurately determine the correct value, taking into consideration the whole colour spectrum, and the reflective nature of the object being measured. The error in the accuracy of a measured value can be as much as 30% of the reading just based on emissivity. A simple way to overcome this is to paint a small area of the object being measured matt black. Or, paint a piece of masking tape matt black, and stick it to the surface of the object being measured. Black board paint or an aerosol from a car accessory shop will do. It’s not the thickness of the paint that matters, but it has to be solid in colour." In my job, we always used to paint the object black to get the most accurate reading.
Everyone is having trouble with the battery cover, just look at it from the side whilst you replacing the cover, there are clear slots and grooves that fit together....
Yes, I love them. We had an issue were the freezer would open when you closed the fridge. Plus these are a great way to keep little ones out. I got them on Amazon. Here's the link amzn.to/3zhRZvW -- Munchkin Xtraguard Dual Action Multi Use Latches
I have a mystery to solve with my IR002. It was without battery for quite a while and when I fired it back up it showed high temperatures. Pretty sure my room is not at 340F, lol. But just kept pressing the trigger and it came up with 212F on the reading. then I pressed it a few more times and it showed 32F. So anyone who has calibrated any sort of thermometer is likely getting my point here. THERE IS A CALIBRATION MODE on this .I STUMBLED onto but could not find it again. I contacted RYOBI. they want me to buy a new one. But this can be calibrated, of this I am certain. Look they cant ship them out until they are calibrated. So if any has solved this . please share
Ugh, fuck....this is completely the reason why I've stumbled upon this video, I just got one second hand from someone, they didn't need it anymore, seems barely used etc, but it's reading ridiculously high or low....
This piece of dangerous junk needs a trigger safety like a shotgun or lever rifle (push button). I also needed a channelock plier to get the battery case off. Try a different brand.
May the 4th be with all you humans! 😜

Battery support is very tricky. But not bad for price

For sure! Great way to save green when buying green tools! 😉

Thanks for the clarification Allen!

Mine, brand new out the box is very inaccurate. 10-20 degrees higher. Anyone find out how to calibrate?
Ryobi has another product announcement coming May 20! Over 25 tools being announced for 2021.
Yes! We saw that! Might try to live stream it this time...
@@SolelyRyobi let me know where you’re gonna livestream. I’ll give it a watch with you guys!
Will do!
How to Switch to Fahrenheit?
Great question, there is a switch next to the battery under the battery cover.
This one I have and like but am interested in your refrigerator side locks.

I wish it had a light up lcd screen.I can’t see it at night and lcd screen look weird like there is plastic over it causing double numbers
You don't need to let it shut off to reset the max you just need to let off the trigger and reapply pressure to the trigger.
Mine won't even work... Also had trouble putting the battery in... 🗑
Accuracy is not good, but sounds like you didn’t want to bash. Can’t subscribe to someone who is afraid to call it how it is.
Damnable 9V batteries. That alone makes it a pass for me.
Yep, definitely not for everyone. Can't wait to see what they come out with next!
