People Trying to Ski Corbet's When the Snow Sucks

- Watching other people drop into Corbet's Couloir in March 2017 when snow conditions were pretty meh. Two years later, I finally worked up the courage to do this run (see that video here: • I Finally Skied Corbet... ). Turns out it was way easier than I was expecting. Granted, I got it earlier in the season on a light powder day. Your experience may differ.
Shot with a GoPro HERO3+.
Corbets is at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, Wyoming, USA.

I might've wussed out on skiing it this time (perhaps wisely), but I did finally ski Corbet's a few years later: th-cam.com/video/nYb4DLM4DWQ/w-d-xo.html
dude that snowboarder straight leaped into corbet, full commitment! the skier after him did the same!
that snowboarder sent the hell out of that! damn. that was sick!
best snowboarder drop i've seen so far.
@@thewindrises balls and it worked well.
Dude seriously he stomped that on full send setting.
On behalf of all snowboarders we claim him as the alpha lol
that was awesome
Man I dream of being able to do this someday but just watching these videos of people looking over the edge make my legs and knees tingle...
I like skiing and have been doing it for 20 years. Used to do black diamonds as a kid but now as an adult I try to avoid it because of moguls and stuff. I've wrecked my knee enough lol
Probably looks insane in person
I will ski this one day
People in this clip are terrible
You'll can if you continue to ride every winter every time you can (I know it's very expensive in US) but if it's your dream make it true
I'd love to see this in person one day. I would be that guy @ 2:14. Ski's off, crawling on my hands and knees, and peeking over the edge.
That snowboarder is an absolute chad, I respect the send
Just watching most ppl do this, I can tell they should be able to do it. But they’re definitely getting psyched out and not landing right
I guess it being icy with little snowfall and no sun so you're just seeing white makes it more gnarly, but that's not the way to enjoy Corbet's Couloir. At least, for me anyway. I'd wait for some actual snow.
Seems kind of pointless with no snow. I guess bragging rights or something?
@Seth Taylor i feel that. I've just been on some steeps like this in bad snow and wondered. Why am i here.
It's not icy. It's a normal day in the east
Looks like most people overcorrect turning uphill to slow themselves. Understandable. That’s a scary drop
Since its so icy they dont have much choice. To much speed after the drop + knöligt is underlag. Det går inte å göra annat.

That’s wild that the snowboarder Just out did the skiers like that 😂 I expected it tho
I looked at this in 1989…no chance I was gonna send it. Props to those who did and do. Those Jackson Hole Air Force boys, hell they had no fear launching all over the place on 205cm straight skis. Amazing times, ridiculous skiers - if you haven’t watched the Swift, Silent Deep do it. Great film on some of the pioneers of extreme including the legendary Doug Coombs who the idiots at Jackson banned for skiing OB.
That snowboarder said, "What, you all want to live forever!?"
"with mixed results" 🤣🤣🤣
Ugh. You can hear how icy it is.
I might hit this but man that looks slick. Maybe on a powder day
Snow don´t sucks, people do ! 🤣
Just the way second dude dropped with his arm behind him tells me he wasn't ready
Main man at 3:30 pressed the R2 button and almost launched right into the across the way
Man skiing at this height is such another level.
Man this looks like so much fun. Once my shoulder heels from shoulder surgery then I get the trim ligaments in my knee replaced I might try this!
There is a similar drop in Europe I have done it like 20 years ago snowboarding with Club Med ski instructors, it was in Alpe d'Huez or Val d'Isere. First you had to climb up from the top of a piste. Would not try it now anymore with 57 years of age, a pity, what a rush. Regular black piste crazy enough now.
The craziest guy there is the dude crawling around the edge without skis!
That would be me!
based in what i see and learn is only think 5secs and JUMP INTO IT.
February 2017 was the most historic snowfall month in the last 50 years you just missed it
This is a good video... How to drop in a safe mode....
Its very important to have the DIN level on the ski bindings on a high level probably DIN10 or higher on the ski bindings!
It always important to checking the snow condition and learn to handle the snow condition and curves on a safer place than Corbets Couloir...
Many people did not now how to ski down like this place with safe technics ;-)
I can look at least 2 person of the failur peoples... With a little lession of good technics will be capable to skiing down this Couloir better and more safe. ;-)
It is very important not to beeing scared when you skiing down some place like this, because it will be easier to do the right things and technics in a danger position if you are calm, but in focus!
If you know how to position yourself in relation to the snow and slope degree, you are also able to use the right technique on for example powder or icy snow condition!
I wil trying this couloir if i going to travel to Jackson Hole some times, but it's too fare away from Norway an too expancive :-(
Actually most of the time when people loose skis in the air or when they’re unweighted its their forward pressure that’s the issue. Also they’re called bumps not curves and you will never stop people from dropping into shit they don’t belong, you can only hope they learn from it and take smaller leaps in their skiing next time. (Don’t upgrade from your first black to Corbett’s)
What i notice is that the less experienced skiers here are not committing to that first turn. They’re not trusting they can make it. So they half give up and end up on their side.
U are so wise
I was going to make a negative comment towards the skiers in the video, but you did it much more eloquently...
snowboarder got some balls to dive like that sideways lmao
The sound of skis scraping ice can be heard early in the video, up by the lift.
Needs sharpen edges and binding setting as well as alpine GS
thanks for putting that arrow.
Crunch, Crunch Crunch
Let’s ski Corbets!!
I want to do this one day. Right now suck at home in Germany, Alps are closed down too thanks to Covid.
Damn, even the alps are closed???? WTF? 🤨👎
Wo gibt's was ähnliches in Deutschland? Zugspitze vielleicht?
3:45 I don't understand why the binding released his boot
The configuration was to weak
Apparently one year ago I already watched this video, yet here I am thinking I never watched it
@Seth Taylor lol
My best guess after more than 1 year is that it got released when he landed, but kept skiing on it and the ski only fell off when there was no pressure by his foot to keep it in place (when he turned)
Someday I'll cross the country and ski this.
How about skiing it with cross country skis!
Haha at least you got an inch of snow
Cool
Ughhh, skiing this in flat light is ballsy
The snow looks like a good day in vt
feels like i am playing lemmings on spectator
I wish I was there to flex on these skiers on my snowboard. 🚫🧢
In my dreams I wanna do this so bad... but I'm too old at this point, and value my life.
people who ski it on bad snow days are probably there for a short trip and are determined to ski it one way or another.. locals only hit it on pow days
The weather may take a break when there is no snow for weeks on end however the human ego never takes a day off
crank up your DIN settings guys
you're the settings
3:30 the faucet
because he makes everyone gush
them 1 inch in six days insane me 0 inches 15 years lol
This is it? thats the "deadly" run? Where I'm from, kids would be jumping in to this like mad.
Snowboard is king. Why it’s more people snowboarding?
So…you go?
what resort is this in???
sorry... mountain
This is at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort in NW Wyoming
Zlatev Ivan its in Jackson hole Wyoming
Like being in the 1st tee on Sunday at 8am
I skied it when the snow was perfect. Not well. But I stayed on my feet!
Jackson Hole New Hampshire!
(It's an icy slope joke)
Upidstay
clearly you have never skied in the east on a bad snow day, its a sheet of ice all the way down. if its real bad you can see a 1 inch thick sheen of ice cover the actual run.
Coming from the east, looks like an average powder day to me 🤷♂️
Everyone dropping in in the video clearly aren’t ready.
lOl. Just by the tone of voice. I knew I heard Quebecers. LOL
Is it really that hard?
what is the point of this!
Call your "Drop in!" You Bunch of beginners trying to show off! 😄 🤣 😂
That flat lighting must make it exponentially worse.
So much for Global Warming. That chute has enough ice to rebuild several glaciers.
You can tell from someones stance whether they'll make it or not
Dunno how that second guy failed, he pole tapped and everything
jerry da Y
what did I just watch
that's what we call an east coast pow day
its funny that 1 inch in 6 days is shit but in australia that is quite good
Seems to me if you can’t make the two turns needed to ski the top without falling you really shouldn’t be skiing this.
You're probably right. but if they are adults and have the guts to do it, who are we to say no?
Alot of people don't know if they can make the two turns unless they try. Doing the whole thing is often more about confidence than ability.
Not sure how ANY of this was "mixed results" as nobody skied it out. Heck, even the boarder went down but came back up so not so much "mixed". TBH I would have skipped it myself. Old enough to know better
Сноубордисты походу уехали уже?)
It’s not a hard line
lol
i’ve skied stuff like this on trails when there closed and snow is blown on them into piles and it’s not terribly hard half of those people shouldn’t have been there
Always remember cameras don’t always reflect the steepness too well
Always the same, beginners wanting to have "done" a black run, these people should stick to blues until they become better
Another ski fail compilation
I wanna do this and I’m 12 😂
you say that until your up there.
It's harder than you think
Maybe in 10 years
So sorry but I think to go down that hole trying not to fall is a bit stupid, that's not skiing it's just like going down stairs with roller skates. Moreover most who try ( and fall ) are poor skiers.
Haha on entend des Québécois à 2min30.
the snow looked great to me, I think the issue was user error
it was very icy down below. the snow at the top looked fine yes
well it s moslty bad skier and bad technic,a good skier will go down this slope easy, it s just to sur estimate yourself just to show off to others
Video first plays showing a skier badly in need of lesson(s) ….many…no business skiing into a chute , let alone anything advanced.
AT ISSUE: 1.) No commitment to inside edges.
2.) No idea how to ski hardpack
3.) Elbows locked to the sides resulting in turns initiated with upper body.
4.) “0” up a down movement resulting in inability to upweight and allow skis to pivot underneath….no downweight resulting in skis just washing
out…
5.) Skis not working through the turn, or if you will, NOT “kicking the ball down the fall line”, resulting in tails washing out and total inability to ski
Hard Pack and ice…it’s a trick, you push forward and then bring them back under you…along with a beveled ski edge 88 degrees, you actually
ski hard pack and ice.
Flat light days like this are best enjoyed skiing trails below, subalpine zone not the treeless Alpine Zone where vegetation is absent and you have no depth perception…also Goggle Lens Choice is critical, Yellow or Orange, or you could go clear with Yellow Shooting Glasses…
All in all, it’s sad to see people spend a fortune to go skiing and do it so poorly, and display terrible judgement going into a chute on a flat light day endangering themselves and others….
Learning to ski, and improving is 90% mental, and 10% physical….with the Olympics on these weeks, do you think those skiers are concentrating?
On what? if you concentrate you must be concentrating on something…if you go skiing and are totally unaware of what to concentrate on than you are not only not going to improve much, but you present a danger to yourself and others…there is no sport you can achieve speeds like this in locales full of danger, and have clueless people surrounding you, most of which don’t even wear a helmet….
SPOREs
Cool dude waiting on the video to see you crush it…
Much of what you say is correct in terms of the flaws of the individuals in the video. But this run is basically set up as an extreme "challenge" for the best of the ordinary skiers. Its a legendary run, but its very possible for many people without the best skills to sort of do it.
There is danger in doing the chute, but not extreme danger.
