Thanks, Chad. NIce review. I ordered these -- I'll let you know how I like them. QUESTION: I'm curious what heartrate/HR zone you are in while you are recording and running. You seem to be a tad above the "comfortable conversation" range for a zone 2 run. Just curious what your zone and perceived exertion are while running and recording. Thanks.
You are correct in that I was in the 'just beyond comfortable conversation zone'. I remember consciously trying to slow down but I guess I was having too much fun in the shoe! Ha!
I just found your channel and subscribed. Very nice review. Are there any similar shoes in terms of performance that you would compare to the Specter 2? Is the Superblast similar? Also, how is the stability of the Specter 2? I can run in neutral shoes, but I prefer neutral shoes with good stability with a stable heel. I do not like shoes with overly soft or unstable heels.
Glad you found the channel! I haven't ran (yet) in some of the other branded super trainers such as New Balance, Asics, and Brooks but I have ran in the Puma Deviate 3 and enjoyed that shoe. The Diviate 3 Is maybe a little more stable than the Specter 2 but that's largely due to the carbon plate. That said, I have never felt unstable, especially in the heel in the Specter 2 despite its higher stack. Hope that helps!
@@SeeChadRun Thank you. That helps! My only experience with Puma shoes is the Velocity Nitro 2. Pumagrip outsole is excellent, but the midsole does not have much energy return and the heel felt a bit mushy and unstable to me. So I was disappointed with that one. The shoes I mostly run in now are the Saucony Triumph 20 and the New Balance 860v14.
bro, great scenery! do you foresee midsole/outsole durability to be an issue for the specter 2? the chafing on the midsole foam seemed quite noticeable during the b-rolls...
I'm not sure about the Cyclone 2 as I haven't ran in that shoe. The Specter 2 at worst comes up short maybe an eighth of an inch in length but I wouldn't necessarily size up either. Sizing is one thing that I failed to mention in the video, so I'm glad you asked about it!
@@djohnson6551 this is correct. it is a bit tighter in length and vertical toe volume than the cyclone 2. still comfortable though and i wouldn't size up from my 9.5 which i wear in all topos. really nice fit. definitely little shorter, but i thinker the upper is slightly stretchier than cyclone 2.
I have both and pretty wide feet the thing iv learned from comments and my experience Is topo is wide in the front but narrow in the arch and they are also a bit shorter from heal to toes . Thus i size up because i have wide toes (i like to try to open all my toes ) and wide arch (weak arch). So usually im a 9 but i have a cyclone in 9.5 and specter 2 in 10. My cyclones are gonna be replaced soon by another cyclone in 10 i think they are really narrow in the arch and a bit shorter (love the shoe tho its my favorite i feel so good in them). My specter 2’s are a bit longer and feel good in the arch but i think they may be a tad too big for me so next one might be a 9.5. 42:00” 10k training for 18:00” 5k. 40 mpw
You should rate it as a shoe for fast runs. Not for racing or easy runs. It doesn't really matter what you think how well it performs for racing and easy runs. You risk giving a shoe that performs well in what it was build for a lower score. And what's the problem to have another shoe for racing and a third shoe for easy runs? Cost is not a problem. You need to look at the cost pr kilometer long term. This is just my opinion, thanks for the review.
I think it would be great as a marathon shoe, particularly if you're looking for one that does not have a carbon plate and that you can do a lot of your training in as well.
That's a solid question, and thinking about it, right now this is the show that I'd likely use for something like a road ultra. The wide toe box, bouncy but soft underfoot feel, and lightweight package is exactly what I would want. I can also add that the underfoot feel is softer than the Craft Endurance 2 shoe (which I also enjoyed, but see it as more of a specific tempo shoe).

Think there’s any chance they’ll be using the Pebax in the MTN Racer 4 that’s coming any day?
I suppose that's entirely possible and would be pretty epic!
@ sure hope so! Sounds like the Pebax foam is a good upgrade for the specter, not sure why they wouldn’t use it in the trail shoes as well.
Great review! ❤

I don't foresee durability issues. The exposed foam will wear faster but I don't expect it to be a concern. Thanks for checking out the video!

Yah! Thank you 😊
Is it true to size? Similar to Clyclone 2 in fit/length? Thanks.

Would this be a marathon racer?

This or the Superblast 2 ?
I haven't run in the Superblast so I won't be able to say one way or another...
I’ve ran a road 100 mile in the pro endurance 1 by craft, would the specter 2 have enough cushion for the 100 mile distance in your opinion?
