Jason Street and Matt Saracen without a doubt were my two favorite characters on Friday Night Lights. I enjoyed Jason Street's never quit attitude and achieving his goals on wanting to keep his new family intact no matter how many obstacles were against him. And I revered Matt Saracen's unconditional love towards his grandmother. I loved that relationship Matt had with his grandmother. Despite some frustrations, not one time did he ever shun his grandmother despite her mental medical challenges.
These 2 are so cute, innocent and honest in 1st season.
I know Julie has gotten some hate over the years but she was actually a pretty realistic character. She was pretty cool in seasons 1,3,4, although she certainly had her moments. A total brat in season 2 and a trainwreck when she went to college in season 5. All pretty typical of kids that age.
I agree. I also appreciated how Matt was always the person to ground her. In season 2 she treated him like dirt and then when things got rough tried to go back and act like nothing had happened, only for him to feed her some humble pie to make her realize how awful of a person she became. In season 5 when her life was a mess of her own doing, she tried to run and use Matt as an escape, he eventually told her to buck up deal with the consequences and get her life together. That's part of why that pairing worked I feel.
She was very supportive of him in those seasons too. The more I watched the more I saw she was actually alot more supportive of Matt than vice versa. He always was so caught up in all the other things he had going on. Wish she had more interesting storylines for her character.
Well she clearly played the girl that was with the guy that was way way too good for her at syh a young age. Its realistic yeah
I think her behaviour in season 2 was justified (to some degree). Remember she became a sister at 15 (which made her rightfully insecure and apprehensive), her dad left for another job (in another city), so she lacked that constant day to day father figure which all teenagers need whether they realise it or not, and she was going through hormonal changes which cause mood swings and mean streaks, even to the best of us.
I get the criticisms of her character in season 2, but I think her character from start to finish was a masterpiece of showcasing a teenager's transition to a young adult.

I know this is about Matt & Julie but Matt’s relationship w/his grandma was one of the highlights of this show.

Matt and Julie’s scene on the stoop has always been one of my favorites. Despite the craziness that comes later with Julie, it’s a good representation of why they work well together.

Every time Matt first says I love you I keep thinking he says it cause coach Taylor is heading to the car to kill him lmao
I remember thinking the same thing when I watched the show through for the first time! I just kept saying, "Yeah...that's cute, but dude...drive away...your life is in danger!" Then I realized...Coach Taylor wouldn't have a QB otherwise, so maybe he wasn't in as much danger as I thought. I am sure Smash would have loved to just have the ball directly snapped to him every time though. LOL!
I just started watching FNL and Matt is definitely my favorite character.

Not sure the name of the song, but my guess is that it's from "Explosions in the Sky". They were the ones that typically did all of the instrumental themes for both the FNL movie and the show.
