This episode was one of the best yet. Minka's honesty was elevating. Not to bash Mae, but when she's co-hosting, there's so much irony, jokes, ranting... How genuine Minka is, how she opens up, how the three are real with each other, is so good. Great conversation, great dynamic. Wish it lasted longer!
I just watch the episodes with former castmates because of her. She's too much for my taste and has no real connection to the show besides being a superfan.
Through multiple viewings of the series, Lyla has been both my most liked and disliked character. She was at times the brightest, cutest, most loyal, and other times the most annoying, self-righteous and stuck-up. That all speaks to Minka's talent as an actress. But after watching this interview, I just love the totality of her heart. What a beautiful and gracious human being.
The "I need to go pray" scene is one of my all time favorites. Lyla was so important to me as a young person, the way she stood her ground and wasn't afraid to be herself was amazing to see ❤
Let’s go!!! As someone who was born disabled I related to Jason. I loved his relationship with Lyla so much so that I named one of my characters in a book I’m writing Lyla. Lyla and Jason’s relationship is very beautiful. The way it changes and evolves as they mature is absolutely beautiful.
So happy Minka agreed to be on the podcast. She was such an integral part of the show. I never hated Lyla. I think if those same bloggers watched it now, they'd have a different opinion.
Heard her go on Dax Shepards podcast. Never knew how challenging and complex her upbringing was. What an incredibly unique person. Also incredibly attractive in so many ways! Excited to dive into the rest of this episode
Omg, what a lovefest this episode was, I'm still teary-eyed. Minka seems like such a genuine person and a beautiful soul. I feel like I will rewatch scenes through different eyes after hearing her describe your experiences in filming them. I missed Mae, but this was a wonderful episode!

I love Friday Night Lights so much. I can't believe I just found this podcast now! I am soooooo happy to see all these amazing actors feel the same about the show. I spent my whole life talking about FNL to every single friend who never watched it with the same passion you do. :) Minka - you are amazing!
I love that she has a connection with you guys and Mae in way as she worked with you guys in FNL & then in Parenthood with Mae. I'm not sure if she ever had scenes with her. Just like MBJ, he was Vince Howards then he dated Haddie on Parenthood, also Luke Caffery & Ryan York (Matt Lauria) I hope for these guests soon & I hope Mae is there for the reunion.
possible topic for podcast: being in a creative profession can be draining. How do you guys take care of yourself when working on a movie or show? Where do you go for inspiration when you aren’t feeling it? Like books, movies, music, people etc.? ETA: this episode made ME tear up. love minka’s honesty and vulnerability
I'd love for you all to talk about the relationships and off camera relationships between all the crew. We're there any down low connections made? ...until the strike ends.
Very curious why you were instructed not to talk about the show when both Pod Meets World (Boy Meets World) and Drama Queens Podcast (One Tree Hill) were both told they could continue as usual. Seems weird.
Y'all were so great on FNL. I have to say that the on-screen chemistry between Riggins and Lyla was out of the park. I know she loved Street in the beginning but I think Tim was her true love whether she wanted to admit or not. Just my opinion. Loved the show. Please interview Taylor Kitsch.
Great episode!! I really need to read Minka’s book, can’t wait to read it! She did such a wonderful job on the show it’s so interesting to hear her perspective! Even though she was new to the industry and she felt like she didn’t know what she was doing, as someone that watched the show more than once I honestly would have never have known! With any of the characters, you all did such a wonderful job! Thank you for having Minka on she is so awesome!! 🙌❤️✨ps- your voice is so calming I don’t know how people could comment on it and say anything less 💖
Here are some topics I've thought about as I've watched the podcast: 1. It seems like a lot of yourselves was poured into the characters, but how do you know when to stop and how do you figure out how to evolve a character without introducing more or too much of yourself into that character? Obviously, writers are critical, but actors have a role to play as well. 2. If, knowing what you know now, you could rewrite season 2 to be more... better... which major story beats would take out and which would you add? 3. How do you figure out how you're going to portray a character? What are your considerations and what's your process to decide on a direction? 4. Do you think a show like FNL still works today? The best part of the show is the realism, but I wonder if how people live their lives today has changed enough to where the show would need to majorly change to have the same impact on today's audiences. 5. Did you struggle with any kind of typecasting after FNL? What would you do differently, if you could, post-FNL in terms of your career? 6. Maybe this is inappropriate, but I'd love to hear what the issues SAG-AFTRA are striking about mean to you and how they affect you personally. 7. Which in-and-out characters would you have liked to see larger storylines for and what would those storylines look like? I've personally got Santiago in mind. 8. I'd love to hear a deep dive about your hobbies. Scott with his comics and Zach with his outdoorsy-ness. Tbh I'm blanking on May's outside interests. 9. If you could get the FNL cast back together to do a show, what would that show be about and why would it work with those same people? 10. With the cast seemingly being so close, were there every any tense moments where folks' relationships weren't in a good place, but they had to work through it anyway? If not, has that happened in your career and how do you get through not liking someone, but still working with them anyway and not letting it seep in? My thought is that in highly scripted works it's maybe easier, but it seems like anything improv heavy would be tough.
1) Regretfully, it is not mentioned here but Minka's memoir is out and it is AMAZING. Stop whatever you are doing and go get it. One of my favorite books of the year, easily. 2) For future episode, can you talk about the podcast itself? How did it come to be? How in the world did you get Zach onboard (heh)? When do you actually record? How do you go about getting sponsors (which seemed to have increased) What have you learned since you started? 3) Minka, Zach, and Scott all have lovely voices 4) additionally, Zach, we need you to work through how you got to the show because like everyone else you clearly were made for your role. Can't wait to get to the "everyone leaves me" episode and, of course, The Son. Emmy worthy.
Topic for next pod: I grew up 30 minutes outside of Austin, and played hs football. I’d love to know what sort of stuff y’all did in the Austin/Central Texas area and what some of y’all’s favorite memories were in the area.
Thanks for clearing it up for us - I was wondering how the strike would figure in to the podcast. How can we support you guys? I’d be happy with you guys talking about literally anything. You’re all super entertaining and fun to watch.
Happy to hear you talk about whatever you want to! Some of my favorite moments have been when you go off topic to tell a story - your reactions to and interactions with each other are the best part of the podcast! Chat about what you’ve been up to, hobbies and things you like to do when not working, interesting experiences, etc. 😊
It would be cool to hear your perspectives as fathers. How has fatherhood changed you and has it impacted your acting? What advice would you give to your younger selves? If one of your children wanted to act, would you support them or steer them towards another career?
Hey gang! Have you ever thought about spending one episode talking exclusively about the city of Austin? It seems like you had a very deep connection with the town. Favorite bars? Favorite restaurants? Did you ever go to ACL or SXSW?
Minka seems so sweet. When I first started watching the show I had the same thought about her voice & her clenched jaw but I definitely didn’t think it took away from her performance. I do agree that she was obviously more relaxed in season 2. I actually loved Lyla’s faith journey. I wish they would’ve kept her on the path.
I love Minka! It was so fun to hear her expeirences on the show I would love to hear about your guys experiences filming in Austin. The fun and differnt things you did when not shooting
Hi from France guys.❤ Woawww, this podcast is so great: you hooked me so much that I re-watched the 5 seasons the past weeks! I was so surprise to go back into it with almost the same passion as the first time!!🥲 Keep up with the podcast and the cast interviews!❤
I want to hear more interviews, more Q&As, bts experiences and tidbits, how FNL shaped your future roles. Scott: how did it feel to play the “golden boy” not once but multiple times? Mae: you always get my fan perspective which makes sense because I believe we’re the same age. I’m 34 but was curious what other teen shows or dramas were you also a fan of? And to everyone what was your fave shows and movies growing up?
I think it would be so interesting to hear you guys talk about the strike that happened during the shows run and how it effected you and the show if you are able
Literally just started watching this show again on Netflix. I also am right at the episode where she picks up the convict 😂 perfect timing for this podcast
Loved, loved, loved this interview, the three of you have such a gorgeous friendship, thanks for giving us a window into it :) I was really interested in what Minka had to say about the similarity between therapy and acting. I’m a therapist and an actor (more of a hobby) and I’ve always thought the thing that helps me be a good psychologist and an actor is the same - being able to understand a person, make meaning, understand how someone thinks. I would love to hear more about the acting process and creating a character. How much of you goes into your character? Have you ever had to play a character who is so opposite to who you are and how did you do it?
Clarifying question - FNL Season 2 premiered in the 1st week of Oct 2007, and I'm guessing a lot of the episodes for Season 2 were written before then. The strike happened in Nov 2007, so well after some Season 2 episodes had been written/shot. The strike has always been blamed for the whole murder storyline (and some of the other Season 2 oddities), but it seems to me like the writers and production crew had already shot/written/mapped out a lot of the Season 2 craziness before the strike even happened. Was all strangeness of Season 2 a result of the strike, or (what I'm beginning to think) the result of NBC not knowing how to market FNL for optimal ratings and trying to overly dramatize things hoping to get more viewers?
Wonderful episode, the vulnerability from minka was raw and giving of herself. The memory book was a beautiful thing to see. ...So glad she wasn't raked over the coals for having to say ...dirty, dirty.... Dirty...Quad porn. Lol. As the show is no longer in production, does it prevent you talking about acting in the show or is it considered promotion for currently streaming content.
I love Minka as Lila. She played her so realistically and believable. In season 1 Lila was a High school girl trying to deal with so much going on that Minkas portrayal was perfect. We saw her mature and grow throughout the series.
Idea for topic: challenges of having a career as an actor and how you deal w them. What did you do for work before you were working steadily as an actor? And how did you manage your mindset? Currently, when you're working on a project that you don't love but you've committed to it, how do you manage your mindset? ❤
Topic ideas: Tell some behind the scenes or more audition stories from other projects. Or tell us about your favorite filming locations and why. Outside of your careers, what are your hobbies? Favorite music, books, or other podcasts at the moment?
Sctt is there an episode of the podcast where you discuss what it’s like, and how you prepared to play a Quad? As a person with a disability, who is wheelchair user, I’m curious.
I may be late. But I think there should be a whole show dedicated to the difference between a Timmy Riggins shirt and a Billy Riggins shirt. I’ve based approximately 33% of my life decisions around this nuance.
I found this show by accident one day. I told my wife about it. I played football, she was a cheerleader. I knew she would like it. And she did, until this little girl came on screen. We all know just what a stunning person she is. Remember I said my wife was a cheerleader. Well there's more. She went to a rich school. Mine was next door to hers. We were a poor country school. And her school was really crappy too everyone. But they really hated us. But she was so good looking. She hands down won football homecoming queen. She also thought gymnastics. Yeah, so she was so flexible and strong. But drop dead beautiful and tan. My point: I was married to my fantasy girl. I was very happy with my wife. No one else has made her jealous. But this lady. And I can see why. But sense Riggens was also on the screen. It made it ok too watch. I would tell her, if you don't mind your business. I'ma pack up and I'm off to Cal. To find this young lady. And leave you behind. And I'll give your number to Riggens.😮❤❤ And they call her. LYLA 😮
I am not sure, but I do not believe that you would be in opposition to the standing of the unions if you spoke about the show but I also I am not sure if the podcast is SAG. I say that only because there are waivers been given for films to shoot that are coming out of some of the studios so it would be and should be Null and void to the progression of the strike and it’s subsequent meaning for you all to be able to talk about the show. Sincerely a fellow actor who understands the plight, God bless you and when I say God I mean Jesus❤️
hey yall! scott i know you're a huge survivor fan and big brothers right around the corner so as a huge reality nerd i'd love to hear all your thoughts. love the pod and i'm with ya standing sag-aftra strong with you 3.
Scott, With the FNL chatter hiatus, would you be willing to speak on your journey dealing with Parkinson's Disease? Context for the ask, I work in high school Special Education (2005- present), I had a student with Parkinson's, I was at her bedside at the end. Further personal backstory, I was referred to FNL during s3, as s3 4 and 5 aired, I had always asked myself why wasn't there any special education storyline or representation in a HS show such as FNL? As I followed Katims next project to Parenthood, I realized why, as it would be given a main storyline.
My ideal is kinda like from Talking Dead with the Walking Dead series; Show an episode of Friday Night Lights from the pilot and have a guest star from the show talk about the episode, and go from there. Sorry if I'm long winded, but I did watch the entire series, and enjoyed it.
At first I thought it was just gonna be scott and Minka talking and I was going to be like okay does zach and Minka hate each other or something because they didn't have one scene in the whole show. I think the only scene they shared together that didn't involve football was Matty dad funeral
For one person who has been following the strike, I knew that actors can't promote any, yes that means a show that will celebrate 17 years when it first aired, because the show is now on streaming services. It is one of many sticking points to the strike of actors not seeing any money when a show goes to a steaming service. So, talk about your love for comic books.
Minka Kelly was 26 playing a HS student and she definitely looked the part. She never ages!
This episode was one of the best yet. Minka's honesty was elevating. Not to bash Mae, but when she's co-hosting, there's so much irony, jokes, ranting... Yea I can’t watch the show bc of her. She’s a lot. I just subscribe to support but so glad I clicked on this episode

Never clicked on an episode so fast! Loved Minka Kelly in this interview. Also some healing took place here I can tell, was so beautiful!

Who would have thought the strike would affect season 2 years after it’s over. This season is truly cursed
😂😩 Damn. You right
Ha dang
😂😂😂

Scott, big thank you to you and Zach for doing this podcast series. It's awesome.
Heard her go on Dax Shepards podcast. Never knew how challenging and complex her upbringing was. What an incredibly unique person. Also incredibly attractive in so many ways! Excited to dive into the rest of this episode
Loved the way Minka played Lyla. Also, there's something so soothing about her voice. Great episode guys!
She’s literally a dream girl. She’s the American dream to me😂😂
@@tommywagemann9512I love her. Her voice, personality, looks.
Yes
Omg, what a lovefest this episode was, I'm still teary-eyed. Minka seems like such a genuine person and a beautiful soul. I feel like I will rewatch scenes through different eyes after hearing her describe your experiences in filming them.

Zach in 'Midnight Mass' was spectacular!
Midnight Mass was great… Midnight Club was one of the worst shows ever filmed.

This episode was so raw and meaningful - just like the show! So happy to see you all together. Minka seems like such a beautiful person 🤍

During the strike talk about your high school experiences in real life. Love this podcast! Texas Forever! 🏈

Do like a where are they now episode!!
Idea for topic: challenges of having a career as an actor and how you deal w them. What did you do for work before you were working steadily as an actor? And how did you manage your mindset? Currently, when you're working on a project that you don't love but you've committed to it, how do you manage your mindset? ❤
She is awesome.
You guys planning on making more episode of FNL? Not sure why you can't talk about a show that had its finale 10 years ago.
Game-changing show with an incredible ensemble with Berg doing his brilliant thing, a great podcast guys
I may be late. But I think there should be a whole show dedicated to the difference between a Timmy Riggins shirt and a Billy Riggins shirt. I’ve based approximately 33% of my life decisions around this nuance.
She was my first crush fr fr
I have always loved Minka Kelly
And I'll give your number to Riggens.😮❤❤
And they call her. LYLA 😮
minka minka minka, simply the best!
The way I wanna know what Nancy Myers movie she auditioned for
I am not sure, but I do not believe that you would be in opposition to the standing of the unions if you spoke about the show but I also I am not sure if the podcast is SAG.
Whats a place you or a friend have or would like to work in , like for instance here in australia maybe?
Would love to hear more about yall families
Scott, With the FNL chatter hiatus, would you be willing to speak on your journey dealing with Parkinson's Disease? Context for the ask, I work in high school Special Education (2005- present), I had a student with Parkinson's, I was at her bedside at the end. Further personal backstory, I was referred to FNL during s3, as s3 4 and 5 aired, I had always asked myself why wasn't there any special education storyline or representation in a HS show such as FNL? As I followed Katims next project to Parenthood, I realized why, as it would be given a main storyline.
I would love to be a part of this podcast
My ideal is kinda like from Talking Dead with the Walking Dead series; Show an episode of Friday Night Lights from the pilot and have a guest star from the show talk about the episode, and go from there. Sorry if I'm long winded, but I did watch the entire series, and enjoyed it.
At first I thought it was just gonna be scott and Minka talking and I was going to be like okay does zach and Minka hate each other or something because they didn't have one scene in the whole show. I think the only scene they shared together that didn't involve football was Matty dad funeral
I love Friday night lights but ginny and Georgia ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🥰😍😍
I needed you both..Scott and Minka
Aaaaand Zach of course
Yes
🇮🇱🕊️👑🌞🌙
She’s so good looking omg
How can you just make yourself cry? That seems really difficult. I wouldn't be able to do it.
This is how great of a podcast this is without the other one on it.
Why can you not talk about a old show not on the air? I'm so confused🤔anyway talk gaming, past gigs, ect.fnl video games?
You can tell all there years later, these three are still best friends. Also, Minka is still a dime.
Seriously! She hasn’t aged a day!
Please talk about your other shows if you can, like Ginny and Georgia or midnight mass, and if not that some of your favorite sets and or cast mates
I had and probably will always have a fat crush on Lyla 😂
Love Minka she is so sweet
Cinespia?!?!!!!! Omg if I ever see any of you at Cinespia, can I PLEASE come say hi!! :')
Also Zacs tiger jacket - holy hell its bright hahaha talk about that lmao
I just discovered this podcast. It was so disconcerting watching Zach on the Criminal Minds reboot. "Wait, Matt Saracen is a serial killer?"
yall need to get coach taylor on this podcast
Talk about the upcoming NFL football season or college football season. Or go into the MaxPreps top 25 high school football teams in the nation.
SO. SO. GOOD!!
