Combination of timing and bad luck for Michelle. In '88, she put out four movies of which "Married to the Mob" was her best chance, but that role was from a comedy, which Hollywood doesn't typically reward Oscars. Following year in '89 she was nominated again for this movie, but she ran against Jessica Tandy from "Driving Ms Daisy", Tandy was 80 yrs old and Hollywood was compelled to award her that year, so again Michelle missed out. Just bad luck really
I watch this movie a long time ago because I didn't have anything to do and I came away from it absolutely loving the performance by Michelle Pfeiffer who I've always liked anyway it was a great movie she's a great talent absolutely beautiful this is now one of my favorite movies I even own it on DVD

Yes! I have the soundtrack and was disappointed at its absence. The audition scene was excellent. They 'Boys' had a long day of tryouts with no success. In walks Suzy Diamond, late, broken heel and her only previous 'experience' was with an escort service. From the first note we all knew she was the one. Excellent film!

I think that Michelle Pfeiffer has amply demonstrated she is a rather versatile actress. Her acting in "Dangerous Liaisons" or in "The Age of Innocence", among others, is fantastic. Being a beautiful woman is something that plays against her acting, as it usually happens in such cases.

Smoking can provide ambiance to certain scenes, and can even act as a prop or joke. Just think about cigars in movies and the types of characters who smoke them. A western where some guys are sitting playing cards, a cigarette lies almost forgotten in an ash tray, you know there is a gun fight coming and the camera focuses on the smoldering cigarette, the cylinder of ash falls and everyone draws their guns. So yeah, there can be a good reason for smoking in movies.

Can’t hold a candle to Linda Ronstadt’s version. The movie leaned on the Great American Songbook which is brilliant.

the film was very good. but no smoke in movies please ...
Smoking can provide ambiance to certain scenes, and can even act as a prop or joke. Just think about cigars in movies and the types of characters who smoke them. A western where some guys are sitting playing cards, a cigarette lies almost forgotten in an ash tray, you know there is a gun fight coming and the camera focuses on the smoldering cigarette, the cylinder of ash falls and everyone draws their guns.
So yeah, there can be a good reason for smoking in movies.
