hi bong from Tacoma, wa I want to say ur cooking is always amazing especially this particular recipe its one of my favorite comfort khmer food thanku and very good looking kids u have God bless!
When I was a kid my grandma used to always make it and growing up Cambodian you have to eat it!! I was never a fan of it. I would always pick at the vegetables and just mainly eat the meat. Funny how this is my number 1 all time favorite Cambodian soup now that I'm an adult. Lol
Omg. My favorite! I didn't like it till I was older, only because my aunts and uncle would make it so bitter, but my mom made it with out the bitter veggies, and it's so good. I'm gonna have to try to make this now. Thank you :)
Nina Meas Hi Nina, I normally start with high heat, then medium, and low. As for the herb, I'm not too sure what we call it in English either. When I have a chance, I'll look it for you, or you can google it too. Try searching under Asian vegetables. Hope that help.
+Elissa Sok Yaung Elissa, Its called Moringa leaves from the " Drum stick trees " . The trees also produce a long fruit that they called drum stick wich we can also used in cooking in samlor machou kreung or samlor ktis. Keep up your good work . :D
They are call moringa. In Khmer we call it (Mo-Rumm) You can check at Cambodian market in Long Beach or Asian markets. Since the weather is getting cold now they might not be in season any more. You can replace it with spinach.
I would technically call this a stew because the soup thickens because of the starch from the potato, and because it doesn't have as much water content as soups usually do.

Can we use something other than rice powder? I seem to can’t find it in my local stores
The rice powder is just toasted rice and finely blended

As a kid I hated this soup cuz we always made it with bitter melon. I luv it now
