It should’ve been I agree. He tricks the audience into believing that he is democratic. Everyone gets a say. Because he lets them give their opinions. But he never does what they want. It always ends up being what he wants anyway.
I wonder how much their cultural background plays into this. On one hand, it is very seems to be a Kody thing - make people think you are listening, then do whatever you want. On the other, their religious group really pushes that the man is the head of the household. Over the seasons, Kody complains about people not wanting to follow him as head of household (being too independent), and Meri, Janelle, Christine, and Robyn talk about needing Kody to be the decision maker at times, but also talk about needing and wanting to be more of independent decision makers. They also discuss at times that Kody is expected to be the leader. It seems like a push and pull between decisions by committee and Kody demanding or wishing to be the leader of the family. Some of the "Kody gets his way" seems to be a natural out come of the religious group they belong to with regard to the teachings of who is in charge, and some seem to be more allowing some narcissistic traits* Kody has to be more fully emphasized in his behaviors and personality. *narcissistic traits - everyone has these traits to some degree. Narcissistic personality disorder would be where these traits become diagnostically significant rather than quirks everyone has to one degree or another.

He didn’t have the patience to spend the time with her. The teenager he physically picked up like a child over a panic attack, though? His adopted child with Robyn.
Oh yeah, Robyn’s Step father was a surveyor for Las Vegas, and she had a bunch of family there. I’m frustrated with the show that they don’t talk about those things enough. They just brush over them…. Which is why he definitely needs to watch all the episodes!
@@Mama_Bear524 I speculate that she influenced the decision. She wanted to move there first, and Kody is easily influenced by her, because he is head over heels for his "Diesel jeans model," and whatever Kody decides, goes. That's how the fans speculate that these things happen, anyway. It's probably not a conscious thing for Kody.
15:10 I think Janelle asked this question because they aren’t functioning as a family the way they agreed to. She’s asking without asking “who really wants to be here vs who is here out of obligation/duty?” Janelle sees and acknowledges the elephant in the room while the rest of them ignore it.

Just realized that Dr Honda skipped the entire “Anniversary trip” where Christine and Kody took their therapist on vacation with them. I was looking forward to his thoughts on that scenario and dynamic.

I’m glad you got out. I’m happy she sees the error of her ways. Good for her for owning up to it. And you’re right, she was also a victim. I hope she can heal.
Truely is the girl learning to ride the bike. She is neurodivergent, and needed a much softer touch. Sadly Kody doesn’t know her well as he spent/spends very little time with her 😞
You'll notice that Kody never does anything that Robyn doesn't want him to do. Robyn did want the move to Vegas, and she probably instigated it (that doesn't preclude her from crying about it anyway).
I'm sorry if I missed it, but did you cover the Truly in hospital story line? . It seemed like kody neglected truly, did not ensure she was drinking fluids while she was sick with the flu, left it to the older children to care for her, and she ended up in kidney failure. Horrible
so the first time you saw Kody actively parenting it was a disaster. Entertain the possibility that ALL of his interactions with the kids are like that. Well, except with Robyns kids, of course.
I’m sure in that house there are confrontation. The girls said he gets intense but Robyn tells them to be nice. She doesn’t want those kids to ruin it for her.
Robyn was raised in a polygamist community, but her stepfather’s other wife lived in a different state. So she was raised inside polygamy while not necessarily witnessing a lot of the polygamous dynamics in her own home.
I'm curious what the reaction would be if the adopted kids were actually his biological kids and he treated them differently. When generally discussing biological vs adopted children there seems there is a strong social narrative, instance really, that bio kids and adopted kids are the same when it comes to a parents love; however, when there are differences in how adopted and biological kids are treated there seems to be a hard line drawn about which children are biological and which are adopted. There also seems to be a missing component of how Kody treats his biological children with Robyn. The relationship with the younger kids is not shown as much as with the older kids, but Kody definitely talks about differences between raising small children with Robyn and how he engaged with small children with Meri, Janelle, and Christine.
@ I believe the reaction would be the same. It doesn’t really matter if your biological or adopted. If your father is parenting children, and he favors those other children over you it’s gonna be hurtful, no matter what. And we know that Cody left Christine for an 11 day honeymoon after she had truly, but Cody was very attentive with Robin after she had Solomon. Also, we know no matter where Cody was. He made sure he went to Robbins every morning to make sure the two youngest children got off to school. That’s something he never did with any of the other children. I don’t think Cody’s kids necessarily care whether Rob’s three oldest children are biological or adopted. I think it’s irrelevant if they were all treated the same there would’ve never been an issue.
@ I mentioned the differences between adopted and biological children because of the way it was phrased in your original post. It just seems interesting that it could be phrased making a distinction between adopted and biological children when you hold the opinion that this is not the distinction that matters in the relationship, but rather that it was a difference between Robyn's children vs. Meri/Christine/Janelle's children.
robyn won’t compromise on anything smaller than a 6 bedroom house. they could rent a 5 bedroom but she won’t budge. the rest of the wives sacrificed space or purchased modest homes. Robyn’s is not compromising at all, only saying that she doesn’t want to buy. Her actions show otherwise.
Robyn did not want to move in the same home!!! Pay attention!!! She even says she doesn’t want to move in the same home so she let Christine be the only ine coiccing her opinion!!! Robyn is extremely covert but she actually tells in herself if you LISTEN!!!!
It irked me that kody's approach to teaching truley how to ride a bike was to put her on a bike that was too tall for her age, he could have lowered the seat or had her try it on a smaller frame like a 20 inch bmx bike first, of coursr it's terrifying to get on a bike that feels like you are going to fall and not be able to catch yourself with your legs because your feet dont touch the ground on both sides
Also, I don’t think Kody (or Christine) knew at the time that Truely was neurodivergent and needed much more time and a more patient approach to learning how to ride a bike. Kids who have “neurodivergent” brains can also really struggle with spatial/physical/sensory activities like learning to ride a bike which, when they “fail” at it, can also have an emotional meltdown. So, having knowledge, sympathy, empathy and a good parenting techniques for (all) kids is essential. 🌈🌻❤️
What TLC doesnt lay out completely clearly in the show is that they financed the houses in Las Vegas on a balloon payment. They couldnt stay unless they paid it off. One reason they moved.
I wonder if this was a move that was pushed by the production company so that they would have pretty houses to film in and large spaces to fit all the camera/sound/lighting crew into while they filmed, or if it might have been an easy out for Kody to justify another move in their history of many, many moves. Perhaps it was just the only way they could afford the lifestyle they wanted to project. It is always interesting to see how people who are on reality tv upgrade their lifestyles as seasons go on (housing decor choices to bigger, fancier homes; clothing, make up, and fitness levels). I can't imagine it would be easy to dismiss the pressure from the broader viewing community; it seems like it would be easier to cave to public criticism of visual presentation of self and home than to have a better financial mindset. Virtually no one pushes for a healthy financial mindset. First seasons $10,000 does not go very far in terms of the spending you see happening to people who make it through first seasons of reality shows.
@@amandahammond4601 I agree. Most reality families get more attractive and live more luxuriously. It is interesting. I wonder if all the "car trouble" they had on the way to Las Vegas was inflicted by TLC. Too bad none of the camera men, PA, sounds people of TLC have written a tell all.

No spoilers but I’m so glad you’ve skipped ahead, Dr. Honda. It’s about to get… insane. I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on the last 3-4 seasons of the show. Especially season 17-18.

He's ostensibly covered many in this video, but would have been nice to see a more in-depth look. They seem less important now, but are 'grist for the mill' and take on a different light later. I'm torn between getting to the meat of the show and getting a good review for later reflection as the show finally starts becoming a reality show where the family is not always toeing the line and avoiding having personal feelings out loud.
Please slow down now and review every episode going into season 16 and forward. I noticed you missed the big blow up at the property with Kody going off about Meri. In season 15 and especially 16 every episode is important because the drama starts.
@prchix and the talking is ridiculous. That whole episode, and we heard 3 minutes of it. Getting into season 16 and beyond, I really need full reactions and an evaluation of his thoughts. There's so much going on and drama starting in season 15 he can't keep reviewing like this. Literally, Janelle asked the question and he talked for 16 minutes straight in a 20min recap video. Wow
It seems Kody had an abusive childhood. Could this be part of his gravitation to chaos and his need to move every 5 years or so (which apparently was happening before we were introduced to the family)? The most recent episode revealed that Robyn's "dad" (step-dad) lived in Vegas, so I'm sure that was part of the decision to move there, as we've heard Dayton's college choice was likely the catalyst for their move to Flagstaff.
Christine wanted to move to Utah. Robyn is letting Kody speak about the move knowing she and Kody had been in roadtrips to Arizona. Robyn’s son Dayton was scheduled to start college in the same town where the moved.
Yessss so glad you’re getting through it. And seeing he has a problem and tries to fix it with moving. Or running from possibly the law… lol but there is more to it than just that. Deep psychological problems with him
Robyn was not willing to live all together. She never lived in the Lehi house even though Janell had room for her and kids. But her kids had to have separate rooms. She just didn’t say anything bc she vowed to obey Kody. Kody didn’t want to either bc he was bitching that he could show his love for Robyn openly and that living together would ruin that and he wouldn’t be able to go to her room every night. So that was all Bull crap! Christine was the only one who would speak up. Janelle really didn’t care.
This is a great episode!. I love your podcasts, I’ve listened since you first started basically ! 😊 I am from Canada, Vancouver to be precise. I am in the psychiatric hospital currently. I am just wondering what your thoughts are on how they deal with people with anxiety while hospitalized? I’ve been very anxious and they keep giving “more meds” constantly. Thank you Mr. Honda for all your lovely work.
thank you for AGAIN sharing how the different memberships work Dr Honda! It didn't super matter to me before, but now that I've become a TH-cam member, I haven't been fully sure about the two different platforms and how they work. Makes total sense 🙂
Is there a Sister Wives expert that would be willing to email Dr. Kirk some of the important points hes missing? Something like Robyn's son's college, anniversary trip therapist, and others ... I dont think i know enough to do it nyself 😅
Also, I don’t think Kody (or Christine) knew at the time that Truely was neurodivergent and needed much more time and a more patient approach to learning how to ride a bike. Agreed, but I don't think Kody is very sensitive to who his children are or how they may need different supports even as nt children. Parents don't need to know, or suspect, a child is nd to be able to evaluate how their children are experiencing the world and adjusting their parenting styles to meet the kiddos where they are.
I hope you react to every episode going forward. I know you were trying to get through them so you could catch up to the more interesting seasons. Well, you’ve reached them. I want to see your reaction to everything that happens after this episode.
Hi Dr Kirk! I am one of those who has to cancel once every now on again because I want to see the content both from podcast and TH-cam. So I just have to manage which one I want to see more that month 😅
I'm not quite sure why he would avoid doing so when it is put out by the family and made to be alongside the show. It is not like it is coming from outside sources... Frustrating.
Someone above mentioned that the loans in Las Vegas and on Coyote Pass were balloon loans. It sounds like a lot of robbing Peter to pay Paul going on and ducking out just before the stuff hits the fan. It would be interesting to know how much the production puts in to paying for things as well. There always seems to be lifestyle inflation in long term reality tv personalities, this seems like just another example. I'd hate to be on the receiving end of the bills that come in. I'm surprised there are not more tabloid news articles on how many reality personalities file for bankruptcies. Well, maybe there are, but this is pretty much the only show I follow and I don't really look at tabloids.
Technically the men are supposed to as well. They can't have favorites, can't spend more time or energy on one relationship or another. They just have more power to point out when others (women) are being 'selfish'. Selfish being someone who listens to their own needs and addresses them. I keep thinking back to DKH's shift in how he views Meri, and how she took her child's coming out in such a challenging way... Meri's reactions just seem so much like a person who has never been allowed to have her own needs, to always put others before her needs, and to follow the expected reply when directly asked what she wants. How is anyone supposed to know what they want as adults who've been living their entire lives under those expectations? Rambling thoughts beyond the initial comment.
I feel like Dr. Honda is missing so much by speeding through it all. Which of the kids had a panic attack and why do you think that is? Why would robyn say she doesn't want to move when she's celebrating her son going to college in Flagstaff? Ask more questions Dr.! Dig deeper. You're barely scratching the surface.
Hi Dr. Honda! Could you react to Rachel and Matt's (from the Bachelor's) break up? I think it highlights a classic anxious and avoidantly attached couple
Lol, yeah… according to Robyn she was “raised” in polygamy. To everyone else, she was raised by a single mom who had a sugar daddy who would travel to see them on the weekends. As much as Robyn goes on and on about the one house idea, she never was raised that way - heck not even raised in the same town as the other family. And the way she describes it in the book is super sketch, it just doesn’t add up to me.
When I saw Janelle start this conversation I was cheering for her. They never have tough conversations & she went for it!!

Robyn was against one house
Christine wanted to move to Utah. Robyn is letting Kody speak about the move knowing she and Kody had been in roadtrips to Arizona. Robyn’s son Dayton was scheduled to start college in the same town where the moved.
Yessss so glad you’re getting through it. And seeing he has a problem and tries to fix it with moving. Or running from possibly the law… lol but there is more to it than just that. Deep psychological problems with him
Meri and Cody are my parents in so many specific ways. It feels validating to hear some of those traits being talked about!
The daughter he was teaching to ride a bike is on the spectrum
FUN FACT: It was called my 4 wives in the uk/canda for the first couple years.. cant remember why or why they changed it to sister wives after
This is a great episode!.
This was my favourite scene when it came out. It felt very real for once.
thank you for AGAIN sharing how the different memberships work Dr Honda!
Kody pushy & non caring sounds right
Wow already to Season 15? Very close to where it starts to unravel. Very much looking forward to his perspectives on the coming seasons.
I notice that all the women explained their motivation to pursue polygamy... but Kody did not disclose his reasons.
So glad you’re covering this series
I get how sharing your husband with other women teaches one to not be selfish or possessive, but the man is allowed to be selfish for some reason?
Also, I don’t think Kody (or Christine) knew at the time that Truely was neurodivergent and needed much more time and a more patient approach to learning how to ride a bike.
Kids who have “neurodivergent” brains can also really struggle with spatial/physical/sensory activities like learning to ride a bike which, when they “fail” at it, can also have an emotional meltdown.
So, having knowledge, sympathy, empathy and good parenting techniques for (all) kids is essential.
🌈🌻❤️
Agreed, but I don't think Kody is very sensitive to who his children are or how they may need different supports even as nt children. Parents don't need to know, or suspect, a child is nd to be able to evaluate how their children are experiencing the world and adjusting their parenting styles to meet the kiddos where they are.
@ Agreed! 👍
Love your reactions to the show Dr. Honda. And for all folks watching remember to like and comment. Two great and free ways to support ❤❤❤
I hope you react to every episode going forward. I know you were trying to get through them so you could catch up to the more interesting seasons. Well, you’ve reached them. I want to see your reaction to everything that happens after this episode.
"Kody is very supportive of the kids". Mistakes were made....
Hi Dr Kirk! I am one of those who has to cancel once every now on again because I want to see the content both from podcast and TH-cam. So I just have to manage which one I want to see more that month 😅
Dr Honda hasnt read the book
I'm not quite sure why he would avoid doing so when it is put out by the family and made to be alongside the show. It is not like it is coming from outside sources... Frustrating.
@@amandahammond4601because he has a life outside of doing these reaction videos
@@amandahammond4601 Christine is releasing a Tell All memoir in September.
Things are warming up regarding dynamics
Kirk, talking about you a lot with people around to ensure a steady inflow of subscribers.
I still am very intrigued how this family could possibly afford their lifestyle
What sacrifice, if any, is Cody making?
It's the women who have to learn to not be selfish.
I love this channel ❤
Doesn’t Mariah now go by Leon? And possibly use they/them pronouns?
Have you thought about doing a video on the Blake Lively situation
Going off on too many tangents and hard to follow
My dogs are barking.
Technically, polygyny is having more than one wife. Polygamy can be a woman with multiple husbands.
I heard polyandry is having multiple husbands. Something Joseph Smith encouraged by marrying previously married women.
Hi Dr. Honda! Could you react to Rachel and Matt's (from the Bachelor's) break up? I think it highlights a classic anxious and avoidantly attached couple
Robyn was raised in polygamy.
Glad you skipped ahead.
