- We're kicking off the Fire Emblem western retrospective with the one that started it all on the Famicom in 1990. The series celebrated its 30th anniversary during 2020, and I've not played many of the games before, only the post-Awakening titles, so I've got a lot to try out and give my thoughts on each entry, from the perspective of someone who's not usually very good at these kinds of games.
Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon is the original game in the Fire Emblem series, and Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon also got re-released on Switch, and remade for the DS with Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon. Chrom pronounced Falchion right. Both Heroes and Echoes also gave the official pronounciation of it and it matches with Chrom.
In FE1, you only need 1 more speed to double, you'll never need double the speed to double, the standard is 4 more Attack Speed than the enemy
Great video fun fact about Roy in smash when Sakurai was creating his move set he imagined him as having a more hotheaded personality. This was because the game had not yet been released in Japan and he only had concept art to work from. This is not at all how he acts in his own game coming off closer to his father or Marth as a better examples (FE6 was sort off a soft reboot for the series as Shouzou Kaga had left IS shortly after completing Thracia 776.)
What’s even more ironic is that he is considered one of the weakest lords in the franchise as he is not only locked to swords but does not get his promotion until late into the game.

@@TrashorTreasure To further elaborate on Roy, if you don't get all the legendary weapons, then you only get one chapter to level up Roy after he promotes. It's really stupid and should not have been a thing. Such a late promotion makes him the weak link in your army because his growth is very limited while the enemies keep getting stronger. And since all the maps require seizing the throne, you can't have Roy bunkering down somewhere on the map, you have to take him with you as he's the only one who can do it.

So far I have only played Sacred Stones and 3 houses. Even though I have only played a couple of games I consider myself a big fan. I'm probably going to play fates next because I'm on a streak playing FE games with multiple routes.
Fates is arguably one of the more pricey games in the series because you can only unlock the other routes by paying $20 each, with Revelations being DLC only. However this is much cheaper than buying Birthright and Conquest separately then getting Revelations. Fates is still a decent game though.
I’m definitely looking forward to the future of this retrospective personally I’m looking forward to the Ike duology of games as they are some of my favourite games of all time... just warning miiiiight wanna use dolphin since copies of the duology are mega expensive

@@raidoukuzonoha883 My copy of Path of Radiance was £110, but didn’t have a manual, and Radiant Dawn was £50. Got lucky with those deals, though now finding a manual for PoR’s really tricky, haha. :)
@@TrashorTreasure They really need to release Path of Radiance. It's freaking ridiculous how hard it is to find a copy. It's a lot easier, and cheaper, to get the sequel.
Back then Roy absolutely didn't have a clue who he was, but Marth I was aware of though before smash he was Mars. As a huge anime nerd I had actually seen the Fire Emblem OVA's which came out dubbed back in '97 almost 4 years before Melee came out.

As someone who has played fire emblem heroes F2P since launch, i sometimes forget, that energy exists, seriously i have over 400 of those refresh bottles, and the number is going up, rather than down, its currently approaching the 500 mark and I haven't run out of energy, since the energy cap was increased from 50 to 99, which was over 2 years ago, at least. (I do agree with everything else though, although there actually are a few difficult maps, outside of the main campaign, mainly some events)
I think I have over 700 stamina potions in Heroes. They are not stingy with them at all.

17:19 that actually is a problem only with the online manual, it omits some pages, that the original JP manual, and the physical EN manual that comes with the special edition have, like weapon stats, or movement cost per terrain.
Also, FE1 uses 1RN, so the displayed Hit Rate is the Hit percentage, in contrast to FE6-13&16, which use 2RN, causing hit percentage

Well...back in 2011 for the 25th anniversary of Zelda Nintendo released Four Swords Anniversary on the DSi for 4 months. They then put it on the 3DS in 2014 for ONE WEEK. It has never reappeared. Mind you I'm talking about Four Swords not Four Swords Adventures. Two different games that aren't even in the same timeline. Four Swords Anniversary allowed you to play the game single player so if you didn't buy it for that four month span a decade ago you need to track down two to four GBAs,the game and a link cable because the original is multiplayer only. Also besides Four Swords not being the same game as Four Swords Adventures, another thing people don't know is Four Swords is not a spin off and is the 9th mainline Zelda game.
You can bet your ass Pokémon will do “limited time releases” crap too since we are on the 25th anniversary and all. Heck Nintendo in large will abuse the hell out of this tactic.

Dude, if you grind at the arena all your units up to level 10 and let the bosses attack each curate it’s possible to have level 20 curates, and have bookmark then nobody dies lol

I was going to make a suggestion since you have played Persona. You might enjoy Shin Megami Tensei. There are a ton of games in that series. And there is a ton to cover in each of them. With SMT 5 coming out soon it seems like a great time to pick up the series and give it a shot.
You mentioned that you don't know why FE12 wasn't translated. The reason was that Fire Emblem was in a death spiral at that point. FE9-11 bombed in the US, and sold mediocrely in Japan. Famously, Nintendo told IS that if Awakening didn't sell 250,000 units, the series would not receive another entry. Fortunately, it basically sold that in the first WEEK, and the series was revitalized in the west.
Alot of Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light's problems get solved in the third game which is Mystery of the Emblem and it has a remake of the first game as book 1 of the game's two books. If you decide to review any JP exclusive games, I suggest this one as it aged pretty well and is one of the most fun games to play.
Oh yeah the reason I bought fire emblem three houses because they add so many FE charaters on smash so I thought this game might be that good to add so many FE charaters but yea I think it's alright I'd like to know ike story because he is one of my favourite charaters from smash

Cool marathon. I've played FE 3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15, and 3H. My favorites are the Tellius games and FE7. TMS is shit compared to FE and SMT.

I'm joking of course. It's a cool little detail that Caeda's death draws reference to a curse within Shadow Dragon regarding the Fire Emblem. It gives you extra motivation to make sure she survives so that Marth gets a happy ending.
No you aren’t unlucky. This is the power of single RNG curse, long story short you will miss way more than you should despite the high % hit rate displayed while the enemy can hit you with 25% hit and 2% critical too. For some blasted reason they brought it back in Fates.
Regarding the JPN games, you actually did yourself a favor delaying them because they are challenging- especially 5 and 6 - and I wouldn’t blame anyone if they abused the save states.
At anycase here’s a piece of advice for whenever you decided to review the JPN games : do not spoil FE4 genealogy of the holy war and experience it for yourself because it’s arguably the best FE game storywise.
