i still could not get the barrel back on to lock the slide, because thew coil spring has a very specific orientation that allows the slide to go back far enough to lock the slide during re-assembly. The spring guide as 2 straight edges which have to be on the left and right side as you look down towards the front of the barrel/slide

I may do a video in the future, but there is a 3/32 hex head bolt underneath the slide to adjust the rear sight for windage only. Unload the gun and lock the slide to the rear, turn the gun upside down and you will see it. Under normal circumstances you should not need to adjust the sights at all unless they moved somehow.

Just to help anyone who has issues putting the slide back on.
The guide rod (the rod with the spring around it) has a circle with two flat sides on one end. Pay attention to that part. You HAVE to put the flat ends on the sides and put the round part into the slit. If they're on the top and bottom, the flat end fitting into that slit part will not let the gun close. So the orientation of the guide rod is important. I've read several comments on other sites about people not being able to put the gun back together and it's due to this spring not being turned the correct way. It's an easy fix, just turn it.
You mentioned it at @14:40 in the video. It's the only "tricky" part about putting it back together. IF you do not line it up correctly, the spring sticks out and your slide won't go back into place.

S&W Equalizer,
First this is not a review, this is my honest opinion as a new user of the new S&W Equalizer, and not a review.
I love this new pistol, for someone who has Arthritis in the hand and grip issues and trouble racking the slide, this pistol is almost perfect.
I say almost perfect. The problem I have found, is first and foremost the one thing I hate, and that’s the grip safety. I’ve never been a fan of grip safety’s, I would rather see a trigger safety, but it is what it is.
The way the slide is made to operate, it makes it difficult to slingshot and rack the slide, it’s too easy to get the slide all the way back and locked when trying to slingshot.
Those are the only negatives I have really found.
The new Equalizer is my new replacement personal carry.
Finally, for those who have grip and hand issues and Arthritis, and also finally getting up in age, this is the perfect pistol. It’s also perfect for everyone else especially women.

Thanks for the comments on the Equalizer! I appreciate your opinion. I just bought my wife a Ruger Security 380 “Lite Rack” pistol and she loves it! The slide is very easy to operate for her as she has grip issues as well. The nice thing is that it does NOT have a grip safety like the M&P Shield EZ or Equalizer.
It is great to see the gun manufacturers making semi-automatics that are easier to operate.

I’m ordering a Ruger Security 9mm Compact with Viridian Red Optic Lazer, so now I’ll have a pistol with an easy rack slide, and lazer optic. So far no complaints on my S&W Equalizer. Since I have a weak right hand I’m teaching myself to shoot left handed. I hope to love the Ruger as much as my S&W Equalizer, will see.

Hello. Can you do this procedure with one in the chamber? We are new, and after examining the trigger pull feel, loaded it up to check out the chamber indicator on top. We must have engaged the grip/back strap safety at some point when we shouldn't have, and now it's all locked up, thank you! I should mention, I did not take the gun apart prior to having this problem. I think I dry fired the gun, then loaded the magazine, racked it (it did seem to not go quite right), then looked for the chamber indicator. It still seemed flush, so I though, oh well, not much of an indicator, so I ejected the mag, then attempted to rack/eject the chamber round, that's when I discovered the slide was racked up.
PK, I would Not mess with a jammed gun with a round in the chamber, especially if you are new to guns. Please take it to a gun smith to have it fixed.

@@davesgunchannel Thank you for your help. Do you have an idea what mistake I made, since I didn't take the gun apart? The manual didn't say anything about not dry firing without a magazine (just said to avoid with slide disassembled, so as not to damage hammer). I'm sure I racked the gun many times in the past at the range with the grip safety depressed. Called S&W, and they seem to think it could be bad ammo (ammo incorporated), not due to anything I did, but thanks again for the advice and helpful video should I have that problem next time I take the gun apart.

I would tend to agree with S&W, I have not had any issues with mine and I have shot it quite a bit. I also do not think you did anything wrong. Other than installing the slide while pressing the grip safety, I find this gun to be easy to use and disassemble/reassemble. Good luck with it!

While trying to re-attach the slide, min got stuck about 80% of the way through. I think I was squeezing the grip safety. It's stuck and I don't know how to pull the slide all the way back or take it back off. Help if you can. Thx.
I’m sorry to hear that! I would be sure that the take down lever is pointing down and work the slide gently back and forth while kind of jiggling it back and forth. Of course, do not press the grip safety. Don’t force it. If this does not work, you may need to take it to a gun store and see if someone there can help. If not, you may need a gunsmith or call Smith & Wesson, they will probably fix it for free if you send it in.
I just had this happen to me as well. It is a common issue but easily resolved! Tap on the back of the slide with a soft mallet in the direction of the slide travel. I made a video th-cam.com/video/HnOk9RQKobE/w-d-xo.html
I used birchwood casey single purpose firearm cleaner on my gun the first te I cleaned it. I didn't see until after that it " may harm some plastics, painted surfaces, synthetic stocks, .... Will it be ok?
Michael, for some reason Birchwood does not have “synthetic safe” written on the products I have seen on Amazon. The product I currently have does say “Synthetic safe” on it. I think you will be ok though, any damage would probably be immediate. I would try to find the version that does say “synthetic safe”, or check with Birchwood to see if “single purpose” is the same formula. I will also try to determine if they are the same and I will update the post as necessary. Thanks for bringing this up!

The Walmart site does not mention "synthetic safe". I would probably order one of the following to be sure you have the "Synthetic Safe" version: BC-33348 (15 oz), BC-33340 (10 oz), 33344 (13 oz), or BC-33327(1.25 oz).

This is a dumb question, but is it best practice to always clean or pull the in the direction of bullet travel?
That is not a dumb question at all! Yes, it is best practice to always run a bore-snake or a rod and patches through the barrel in the direction of bullet travel. This is not a big deal if the barrel is completely removed from the gun and you do a good job with the cleaning.
The reason for doing it this way comes from the fact that if your clean the barrel WITHOUT removing from it the gun in the wrong direction, you will be pushing (or pulling) all the dirt and gunk into the receiver area where you don't want it. Much better to push it out the muzzle.
