He's really misrepresenting this issue. I've known of felons in the past who have bought AR-15s at gun shows with no questions asked. I'm pro-gun, but gun shows are kind of a crazy system honestly. I got turned down because I failed a background check, I don't even have anything bad on my record, I just got pulled over going 128 in my Rx8 one time.

Sleepy This is evidence to show they are lying to you. The politicians saying "anyone can get an automatic weapon easily" or the news anchor saying "i went out today and bought a full auto myself", or the president saying "terrorists come here to gun shows to buy full autos." It's either complete incompetence and lack of basic information, or it's willing propoganda and disinformation. It's lying to further a political agenda which restricts guns for only law abiding citizens. The question is why? The writings on the wall.
It is not the stores' having "strict gun control", they are following federal law. If any gun store/dealer sells a firearm without running a background check (called NICS), then they are committing a major criminal offense. Further, on the NICS (www.atf.gov/file/61446/download), you likewise can't purchase a firearm with the intent of acquiring or selling it to another person (this is called a "straw purchase"). In any of these cases where a firearm is transferred illegally, the person will be facing serious jail time and major fines. Unfortunately, criminals have a bad habit of not following the law and any new laws only hurt law-abiding citizens.
As with these major cities being overran by gun violence, I guarantee 99.99% of the firearms used in crimes are obtained illegally (via theft, straw purchases, overseas gun smuggling) and I'm 100% behind cracking down on these crimes.

I have actually bought a gun online with no background check. That said, it was an 1886 Lebel, which is old enough to be classified as an antique instead of a firearm. So there is a bit of a loophole, but then again, I don't see gangs shooting each other with 120 year old military rifles.
I concur. The ATF classifies firearms made prior to 1898 as antique and not a firearm. They may be purchased without a background check and can even be delivered to your front door. Those who hold a 03-Collector's or C&R (Curio & Relic) license, can purchase guns without a background check and in many cases have said firearm delivered to your front door. However, the licensee must present a copy of his license to the seller. This license does not allow one to "engage in the business" of buying/selling arms. However, there are some dealers who will not accept this license and will require a BG check anyway, probably just to cover their own ass.

I've only ever been to 1 gun show where I did purchase a Ruger LCR 22 magnum pistol and went through the exact same paperwork and background check by the FBI that I've faced when purchasing in my local gun brick and mortar gun store here in Pittsburgh.

They do NOT have an FFL issued by ATF.The dealer has a book called an A&D book.Any firearm that licensed person sells has to be entered into that book with the Acquisition date desc. of the weapon,& the Disposition date and to whom that weapon was transferred.

Yeah it's nuts I just walk in, grab my case of 7.62x39 and pay with cash, walk out. They don't even look at my PAL now that they know me well enough. SKS purchase was about as easy as well, no paperwork or background check bullshit. As much noise as the Americans make about gun licensing, it sure is great at saving time and trouble when you want to buy.
I mean that's not terrible or anything. But I'd personally rather just do it once and have a license for life than have to waste my time with it every time I make a purchase. Plus it means people who buy guns need to at least know the basics before they can go and start shooting. Also why are Russian and Chinese guns/ammo so hard to find in the states? Even when I see them, the prices are damn near not worth it. The only BS about Canada is the magazine caps and the handgun registry.
The ATF requires you to do a transfer of ownership. The dealer is filling out your paper work for you than. Even with the CCP, the dealer doesn't want to be listed as owner of such gun for life. Federal Law requires paperwork, your statement is not true about no paper work. They probably have your info on file(conceal care license) and auto populated for submission to ATF electronically. Having to do physical paper work, is to torcher you and some larger dealers "might" be able to submit electronically.
So do you have to do that paperwork for all gun purchases or just for concealable guns often used in crime (such as handguns)? In Canada those are the only ones we have to do paperwork for and transfer the ownership in the registry. I guess it makes sense, because who holds up a liquor store with an SKS or double barrel?

Also, all sales made at gun shows are considered commercial sales, not private, and do require background checks. However, of course, private sales do occur quite often, but any honest seller or buyer will insist on a bill of sale, which is very traceable. It's typically only stolen guns which find their way to the "black market" of untraceable sales.

Yes, private sales(two people who are not FFLs) do not require background checks, but I havent bought one gun from a private seller who didnt do a bill of sale after looking at my license and CCW.
