You do such a wonderful job on these videos. I have said this on many of your videos - Thank you. Just went out and removed the bushings pretty easily after watching you do it.
I appreciate you showing us the way to change the wheel bearings as I may have to replace the ones in my Craftsman lawn tractor before too long. I thank you so much for sharing the tips with us, and hope you are having a nice week.
I'd also suggest replacing the bushings with wheel bearings. There are plenty of replacement kits out there for this and the wheel will have less play, less friction in the hub, and will generally last longer.
I'm not sure how that could be... as those bearings are not press fits. Hence, rather than the bearings rolling about the inner race of the bearing, most of the time the inner race will be the bushing turning around the axle.
@@monkeybarmonkeyman Yes, the replacement roller bearings that replace those old school bushings are "press-fit" in. I just replaced my bushings in my Poulan Pro rider with ball bearing replacements and they rollsomuch better, and won't wear out the shaft like those worthless bushings do, even if you grease them.
There is a kit on Amazon that replaces the bushings with bearings for about 19 bucks. No grease necessary. I just replaced mine and it took about 30 mins for both tires and one broken spindle.
I have a 28 yr old Simplicity mower that belonged to my dad, and I’m learning as I go. Thanks so much for your excellent videos. A point for other beginners: the parts diagram for my Simplicity calls them “bearings”, and that confused me. These are not “bearings”, rather “bushings” as you called them. Parts diagram cost me 15 minutes of Googling and head scratching until I watched your video, pounded mine out, and compared them to find out they are exactly the same!
Hey Dony, Can the bushings be replaced by bearings on mtd, cub cadet, white outdoor mowers? i can't find any info but have heard they use different hubs that make it problematic to do the switch?
Don. Great video. My Troy Bilt XP Horse 2012 22hp front wheel looks the same as the tractor in this video. Tell me where I can get the steel bushings for my tractor. I would love to get rid of these plastic front wheel bushings. Thank you !
Have a PYT9000Craftsman tractor, tried to replace bushings to bearings, has a cutter key ,washer , with raised edges , then spindle , spindle and washer. The bearings ordered were much larger diameter than the spindles, tried Sears Direct and had difficulty with them determining correct bearing. The tractor model is 44M777 (486.24837) can you recommend different source and proper bearing size for unit front wheel axel?
My engine on my Craftsman yt3000 would not turn over I took out the spark plug and the head cylinder was full of gas and gas had run into the crank case. Am I correct to assume the float bowl had stuck??
What if the front spindle shafts are worn also? I've seen this happen to several newer lawn tractors. Spindles are made of soft, recycled metal. Also, I think it does very little good to have or install grease fittings in the wheel hubs because most people do not think of (or maybe know how) to use a grease gun.
For the record, John Deere uses the exact same looking original bushing. However, their replacement is an actual ball bearing set up. With either the ball bearing or the OEM style bushing, ALWAYS inspect the axle for wear as well, or you will be wasting your time and money doing just a bushing change. The replacement axle will cost some bucks, is easy to swap out and at least with my tractor removed all the slop in the wheels. I suspect the slop you saw was really axle wear.
I want to remove the front wheel on a Snapper LT200. I remove the retaining clip but the washers won't even think about coming off the front hub.??? Every seen this? I have had the wheel off several years ago to replace the bushing/bearings.
if you grease regularly bushing is as good as bearings BUT if you are not good at remembering the bearings are less maintenance to last longer, BUT cheap bearings are worse than good bushings. stay away from MTD machines with the plastic bushings
Do these plain bushes last longer than the ball bearings found on other mowers like the Toro? I would hope ball bearings would last longer but is that actually the case on something like a ride on mower?
Hey Donny, Been watching your videos for quite a few years. I had a tractor come in with tires off the wheel. Once I raised the tractor up the bearings just fell out. I will check to see if any excessive play is present before replacing any. This tractor has lots of miles as your had in the video. Grease goes a very long way. Even dustier conditions need more than normal. Where is your apprentice? I miss the video of you popping questions to him so that I can also guess at what it might be as well.
Have you ever done a hydro transmission rebuild? I have an Aries with a tuff torque k46 transmission that has gotten very weak. No grinding noises, just weak. Could you do a video covering this? The k46 seems to be a very common transmission used in the lower end tractors of many brands sold at the big box stores. Thanks
I have a Scott's riding mower model # S2348. My Steering Bushings and spindles are in bad shape. Does anyone know where I can get replacements. I cannot find the number any where.
Dony, really enjoyed this video. I have an Ariens rider very similar to this. There is not much video available for Ariens repairs. Mine is a 2002 and my understanding is that Husquvarna built this Ariens years ago. Do u remember the model number of this Husquvarna? I might be able to save a little money buying the same part under the Husquvarna model. Thanks again for the video
Was wondering how long the bushings are supposed to last when properly greased. Is a set at 15 years normal? Would greasing more than one a year make them last longer?
if you dont know there IS a difference between a lawn tractor and a garden tractor. a garden tractor is made to use ground ingaugeing tools. like earth plow, or tiller, snow plow.
Good video, but you forgot to clean the shaft that the bushing rides on. Not cleaning it will cause the bushing to wear out prematurely, due to rough contamination against the new bushing, mixing with the grease too. Good video though
I've worked on equipment for years, and 9x out of 10 the owners don't grease there equipment. By the time they bring it in to be repaired, everything is so worn out. Stupid not not maintain your equipment.
A few squirts of grease into a bushing is a waste of time ! To be done properly you must fill the entire core chamber between the two bushings completely full of grease .
You do such a wonderful job on these videos. I have said this on many of your videos - Thank you. Just went out and removed the bushings pretty easily after watching you do it.
Great how to video. Direct with no extra fluff. I wish more you tubers would follow your lead. Well done.

I've got to replace the bushings on our boat-launching trolleys. Thanks for an excellent video. Clearly and simply explained and very good lighting.
I'd also suggest replacing the bushings with wheel bearings. There are plenty of replacement kits out there for this and the wheel will have less play, less friction in the hub, and will generally last longer.

Fantastic tutorial just changed my bushes your guide made it piece of cake 👍
So easy to perform this task all thanks to you taking the time to make the video. Thank you
Glad it was helpful!

Thank you! Replacing the bushings on my 90s model AYP lawnmower, and it's just like this one! This was helpful.
Thanks, it works, changed the wheel bearings on my Poulan Pro Mower
I have to also replace the bushing on my ride around scooter as I am a disabled vet . The replacement is the same way in your video. Thanks
I had no idea how to do this. Now I do. Thank's great video.
Great video. I don't even own a tractor but I am building a cart/wagon and wanted to learn about this step.
I always put some grease thru the fitting before installing bushings/bearings to make sure it's not blocked up... that would best time to replace it
DG, good suggestion. I have had new bushings where I had to shove a pointy object into the grease fitting to clear.
what about filling the rubber boot with some grease prior to putting back on ?

Thank you very helpful have same mower and will be doing mine on my own now
Good video, detailed, informative, to the point...
Great video ! Just like all your work and videos they are easy to follow and do !
Hey Dony, Can the bushings be replaced by bearings on mtd, cub cadet, white outdoor mowers? i can't find any info but have heard they use different hubs that make it problematic to do the switch?
If you leave the rubber cap off you can see the grease push out around the axel so you know you have enough grease!
Great video Don! Editing a front wheel bearing video myself right now great minds think alike :)
Great video Dony , I think my Cub Cadet has the same problem , just have to find out where to get them

I need to reduce the bushing from 3/4 to 5/8” can’t find any please help I purchased an Arnold 15-6.00-6 setup.
I have the John Deere 190C and I'm thinking of upgrading the bushing with bearings would it run better.
Very informative video Dony, I have a John Deere' model 135, looks like the same setup fitting wise. Thanks fir the video!
Very thorough video!!
Very helpful video. Thanks.
My engine on my Craftsman yt3000 would not turn over

What size rod did you use to knock out the old bushings? Great video.
I utilizee a 3/8" long ratchet extension .
Just what I needed. Thanks
Needing to replace the rims on my Simplicity landlord 101. Are there any rim that will fit. Thankyou
Fit Like A Glove
DonyBoy73, once again a great video, thx for shoring. LW

unfortunately customer was too cheap to replace axle

another great video, Can you over grease them ? because mine , the black covers are lifting up when i put in the grease, is that a problem or not?
yes if the covers are lifting then stop pumping grease in

I have a Craftsman GT3000 the bushings are shot but the one on the outside of the wheel will not go in the wheel. Any ideas?
Thanks so much!
TYVM
interesting Husqvarna. I hear those invisible decks are all the new rage.. ;-)
On the john deere 190c have the same bushing there is a upgrade to bearings do you think is a good idea to put the bearing in?
Ray Lugo go bearings, they’ll last longer.
Glen Wray III Going to give it a try. Thanks.
Great video
I fixed the problem with mine I went to Bearings
Nice work and information!
I have a Scott's riding mower model # S2348. My Steering Bushings and spindles are in bad shape. Does anyone know where I can get replacements. I cannot find the number any where.
The manual say that it does not have a possibility to align. It is like this when a purchase it on year before Sears goe out of business.
Bless you my friend

I have to a wheel that comes off the front on a murray rider, what can b the cause?
What type of grease do I buy?,??
What is the best type of grease to use in bushings
wheel bearing grease
Good job Don, should last a long time :-D
Was wondering how long the bushings are supposed to last when properly greased. Is a set at 15 years normal? Would greasing more than one a year make them last longer?
if you grease properly every year they may last the life of the machine
@@donyboy73 Thank ya Sir. This set will be.
Get the bearing kit thats what i did.
use same one on plastic ones too ?
Great video!❤
I heard you say you are going to replace the front wheel bushings on the tractor mower now, does this tractor have any rear wheel bushings?
Toward the end of the video Dony mentions that there are no rear wheel bushings.
Can you replace the bushings with bearings
yes

good job.
Good video, but you forgot to clean the shaft that the bushing rides on. Not cleaning it will cause the bushing to wear out prematurely, due to rough contamination against the new bushing, mixing with the grease too. Good video though
all there was is grease on the shaft so it won't affect it
Oh ok lol sorry I'm just OCD and like to clean the crap out of everything lol if I didn't clean something like that, it would drive me crazy.
valuable, thank you...
That may explain why my craftsman ‘oversteers’ left but not right…just cant see any other reason it wheel locks in left turns only
heh what do you do if it wont come out, outer bushing wont budge! ugh
thanks
Great video Don! Is that your KLR in the background?
yes KLR650 just got it this summer
What I seen was dry rusty bushings, should have used grease, I've never replaced bushings 20 years on same Husqvarna mower.
You shous have put bearings in there, they are so much better
Stens has them bushings for cheaper then husqvarna.
What are you doing with the KLR in the background
I've worked on equipment for years, and 9x out of 10 the owners don't grease there equipment. By the time they bring it in to be repaired, everything is so worn out. Stupid not not maintain your equipment.
A few squirts of grease into a bushing is a waste of time !
To be done properly you must fill the entire core chamber between the two bushings completely full of grease .
Probably should add more grease. 10 pumps ain’t enough.
They must have been afraid greasing it would attract dirt!
Why don't they use bearings ?
Because that would cost about $4 more and last 20 years.
Ah flat screwrivers, what can't they do?
