The advice about not letting the arms get too far out in front of the legs is gold. I always tell people people this, and it applies to every sport. A so called expert or pro is just someone who does the basics very very well. Another thing I like to say to young people is, principles never change, the manifestation of them can and does but the fundamental basic principle is always the same. Tom is a great coach picking up those little mistakes that make the difference between mediocre and great.
That hard jab upstairs, pausing (great deception and throwing off the opponent's timing), fast double jab up then down (creating misdirection, confusion) and if you get the right reaction you'll have your opponent in a perfect place for a hard 2 (I'd try the chin if available). Excellent use of footwork, rhythm and timing (as always great form and positioning)! Thank you as always for the quality content! I live in London, so I know little about coaches currently active in Pennsylvania... but I'd have to imagine you're one of the best there as well as the whole country! Truly world class!

I recomend just do exactly what Coach Tom recomends, repeat,repeat and you will 'get it'. You will learn why,the how,the what of boxing.

Also more videos on parrying/blocking WHILE closing the distance and countering at the same time would be awesome! The segment you did on parrying was a game changer for me as a short fighter!
I can give you five cents on that, jump rope is an accesory element of training to help you develop rythm and cardio. There is no " one size fits all " approach, it all depends on your current level and your objectives, you can use it as part of your warm up, you can use it after your training to losen up and get ready for a post workout stretch, or both.
My old karate instructor used to use the analogy of a bullet when talking about developing a punch. He used to say if you throw a bullet at somebody it won't do much but fired from a gun its shock power can kill you. He would always say think about the recoil of the punch more than the outward motion so speed and shock power do the damage not brute strength or force. You have the same theory with a golf swing, brute force gets you nowhere but being relaxed, good technique and timing can send the ball 300 meters. He would say think of a golf or baseball in a stocking, your arm should be relaxed and the impact of your fist is like the ball, like a wrecking ball in construction.

You've probably heard this all before. It's really a personal preference mate. The best thing to do would to go to a boxing gym and try on different things. Some people like to use 10-12oz bag gloves. The old/ traditional bag mitts were little more than a leather hand cover that usually had a grip bar and came with or without a thumb. Those traditional bag gloves are still made but typically come without a thumb and actually have a bit of padding. I wouldn't recommend those. Get yourself a real training glove with a protected thumb and wrist. It'll actually have use on the mitts and other applications. Others use a 16oz and up gloves... the 16+oz are usually used for the bigger guys especially in sparring. The next part will be entirely dependent on your budget... if you can afford 2 different pairs of gloves then by all means go for it. I have 6 pairs myself currently but I've been doing this all of my life. If you can only afford one, at 90kg, I would say get at least a 16oz trainer with an 18-20oz being a better option if you want to spar. Do you have a gym close by? I know most of the world has them closed down right now... but perhaps wait until they open. See what you like and what your club requires for sparring at your weight. If you just want to get fit in your own home on a punch bag get a 16 oz trainer. If this is the case you can alternatively get boxing gloves that are considered "bag gloves". It would still be very helpful if you could go to a gym and see what you like. Again, make sure boxing is what you want to do before you spend money on equipment.
@@nb0616 Thanks for the detailed reply. I usually spend most of my time in Thailand and they have some decent gloves which are well priced and real leather. It looks like travel is off for a long time though. I was looking at some Aussie gloves called Punch which may be rebranded Thai gloves as they look exactly the same. They are well priced as well. I've actually been using these thick fishing gloves which cost me $3 which feel great but obviously have little padding. The Aussie dollar is so rat shit low now anything imported is expensive. The Punch brand here in Oz looks the brand to get. 16 oz seems a good all round size.
Do you have any tricks to get people to stop circling to the left? I favor circling to my left. Which brings me closer to my opponents right and that is not good. I would like to get more comfortable circling right. Do you have any tricks to do that? It might make a good video. I only ask because Danny seems to have the same problem.
