    Saki plays Killer guitars. It's Akira Takasaki's (Loudness) own line made by ESP. This line of guitars includes Saki's own signature model "KG-Fascinator Seven the Empress".

    I saw this tremendous band at last year's Aftershock Music Festival here in Sacramento. Immediately before Band-Maid. Nemophila's vocalist was 9 months pregnant and she sang her heart out. They cover a pretty wide range from pop like Nightflight to heavy screaming like Oiran, Rise or Dissension. This band is poised to hit it big and they deserve it.

    I experienced Nemophila live (and it is an experience) three months ago in Dallas. They were absolutely fantastic. I was fortunate to be only about 4 or 5 feet from the stage on the Saki side (stage left). I am 62 so have been going to rock/metal concerts for about 45 years and have seen quite a few shows, including 4 festivals. I can't say their concert was in my top 10 but they are definitely top 20. I took my daughter and granddaughter to the Nemophila show and to the Band-Maid show last October in Dallas. I enjoyed the Nemophila show more because I was on the floor instead of in the balcony with my wife for Band-Maid. Because of that. I can't say who put on the better show. I will say that my daughter and granddaughter were on the floor for both and they much preferred Nemophila and became instant Nemophila fans.
    The only thing that Band-Maid, Nemophila and Lovebites (my 3 favorite Japanese bands) have in common is that they are all female. Both their sound and band personality are vastly different from one another. Absolutely no need to compare the three of them. I do know that Saki of Nemophila and Miyako of Lovebites, although not close friends, are friends based on mutual respect. Great talent respects great talent.

    recommend.. raitei, sieze the fate, oiran, ama-te-ras, zen (for screams), and basically anything else in their catalogue. they do amazing covers as well. covid had them sitting at home and they put out a bunch of covers for fun.. they are just ridiculously skilled and can play anything they want and its always good!! the absolute best part about these girls is that they always have fun.. watch for the smiles.. it's sooooo infectious and I luv them to death!!

    Formed in 2019 when lead singer Mayu was looking for a backing band to support her for a live session. She contacted a former classmate, bassist Hariguchi-san. They found drummer Tamu Murata, ex- Mary's Blood guitarist Saki, and ex- Disquala guitarist Hazuki. They felt the lineup was too good, decided to form a band, and named it after a flower because they are all female. This was the title track for their 1st album. Their 2nd album, Seize the Fate was released last December.
    You asked for more, and you prefer live, so try the official lives for either Dissension ,Raitei, or Oiran.

    Fellow guitarist here. My favorite of theirs is "Adabana". It is a music video. There's a point where Hazuki (endorsed by Ibanez) does an overhand eight finger taping technique. I thought to myself "ah....she's just doing that for visual on the video". Then I saw a clip of them performing the song live at the whiskey, and she pulled it off on stage....much respect! She has a collection of J.Customs...not JEMs....but has the same "tree of life" inlay (I'm a bit of an Ibanez freak). Enjoying the reactions!

    Nemophila - "baby blue eyes" flower, "Rurikarakusa" in Japanese; grows in N-America and is appreciated in Japan (see "Hitachi Seaside Park").
    The band was formed in 2019, originally as a "session" brought together by...
    Mayu - the vocalist (ex- Lipstick band);
    Haraguchi-san - bass, backing vocals, was Mayu's friend and colleague from Art School (ex - Holderlins band);
    Tamu Murata - drums, backing vocals, one the most respected session musician in Japan (countless bands), with also her own original carrier; she's also the wife of Akira Yamaoka, musician/composer, known especially for his videogames OSTs, in particular for "Silent Hill";
    Saki (ex - "Mary's Blood" band for a decade, and others, she's a "young sacred monster" in J-metal) guitar, backing vocals, and...
    Hazuki (Li-sa-X / KOIAI bands) - guitar, backing vocals; both, Saki and Hazuki have a lot of experience.
    Nemophila made an amazing fandom impression during the pandemic, thru TH-cam clips...so far about 40 Western/Japanese awesomely bonkers covers, and over 30 original freakishly good songs (singles, EPs, 2 albums - "Revive" and "Seize The Faith").

    - Another Story... written during the pandemic, with the purpose of lifting the spirit;
    not part of any official release or performed in any concert...
    but - according to Saki - "it's part of 'Yell to Art, Tokyo Project' (started by Tokyo Metropolitan Government to offer place for artists to upload their work...since all lives, concerts, events and exhibitions had been suspended, all venues had been closed";
    was posted on TH-cam, on this channel: アートにエールを!【音楽 1ch】; although is no longer there, there are some reactions to it, just search "NEMOPHILA / AnotherStory".
    - Breaking Out, Creature, Ultramarine... not part of any official release, but they are performed sometimes in the concerts.

    The drummer, Murata Tamu, is excellent. Maybe this doesn't showcase her to her best advantage but Tamu is seriously good. Hazuki does play an Ibanez 7 string. SAKI plays a Killer Guitars Fascinator 7 Empress - her signature model. I totally want one of those. She uses an SD Invader in the bridge position - one of my favourite pickups - and she always gets a great tone.
    BOH, the bass player in BABYMETAL's Kami Band tells a pyro story. Apparently at one BABYMETAL gig, one of the crew set up the pyro to be fiercer than intended. When it went off, right in front of BOH, it scared the shit out of him and dude nearly fainted. Definitely disaster potential in that stuff.

    Saki plays Killer Guitars (KG), a company founded by Akira Takasaki of Loudness. The model is called Fascinator Seven the Empress. It's a beautiful guitar. The other guitarist, the lovely Hazuki, tends to switch between Ibanez and ESP. I love the band because in addition to being highly-skilled attractive women playing music that I like, they clearly enjoy performing and genuinely like each other. That goes a long way with me. Thanks for checking them out.

      Hazuki was an ESP girl early on. But she endorses Ibanez now. So she's contractually obligated to use them at this point. Either way, I'm a fan of both.

      @@snakewhisperer1 Okay, I wasn't sure if she's exclusive to Ibanez now or not. I believe in the video for KOIAI's "Make You Regret" that she's playing a headless Ibanez from the Q series.

    • @snakewhisperer1
      @snakewhisperer1 ปีที่แล้ว

      Doing videos for Ibanez would indicate she's under contract, like Kanami doing videos for PRS. The interesting one is Miyako. One would assume she has a contract with Dean, yet she plays Gibsons on stage too. But you are correct. The headless Ibanez is Q-series.

    Nemophila has a different flavor and vibe than Lovebites - they are more eclectic than Lovebites. Tamu the drummer is one of best and most in demand session drummers in addition to her full time role in Nemophila. Try Adabana MV or Oiran (live). They are just as addictive as Lovebites… just different. 🤘

  • @sunshaker01
    @sunshaker01 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Lovebites and Nemophila are kind of related as they both have ex-members of Destrose and are on good terms. Destrose was an Japanese all female Metal band that never had commercial success and suffered from high member turn over (~19 over a decade); about a dozen bands and a handful of solo acts can be traced back to Destrose.
    Nemophila is a high variable band as they are kind of an accidental super-group from different types of music. Generally they are heavier than Lovebites but can also go softer than Lovebites or Band-Maid, they are probably best described as Metalcore but that isn't an exact fit. They also have an extensive collection of cover songs, mostly bands that have influenced them or bands that they want to acknowledge. I'm going to do something different and recommend one of the covers, this is a cover of Seikima II the favourite band of Saki (guitarist and main composer). 聖飢魔Ⅱ / 呪いのシャ・ナ・ナ・ナ [Cover by NEMOPHILA] th-cam.com/video/dVmq2nDZ05Q/w-d-xo.html

    Nemophila was formed just before Covid and they've spent a lot of time making covers of other bands during pandemic days. Once you finish checking their songs you should give it a try - those covers are amazing and show a lot about their versatility.
    For now I'd suggest "Oiran", "Adabana" and the balad "Now I here".

    This was their first live concert in front of a live crowd in Jan 2022 since the Coronavirus Apocalypse of the Bizzaro World. As in Japan they were just allowing live events and people were only allowed to clap and not cheer ... Prior to this they did a bunch of live stream concerts with no live audience. They are an independent band and came together naturally. Due to their prior projects they have connections and knowledge within the scene that has helped.

    They just today did release a live from this same show called Oiran, which was their first single from 2019. They don't have alot of live, as they formed in 2019 and they were stuck during Covid until about 8 months ago. They have alot of great OMVs of their original material (they cowrite their songs at this point), and they have some great covers they did live in studio during Covid. Raitei, Dissension, Seize the Fate and Rise are bangers, and Hypnosis and Style are a bit lighter. They are very versatile.

    awesome! I highly recommend the song Oiran, LIVE VERSION, from the same offiical nemophila channel, same concert. NEMOPHILA / OIRAN [Official Live Video] from 11 days ago, not the older one filmed during covid, which is good but not as amazing as this new proshot proaudio version). It's next level compared to revive.... Tamu Murata (drummer for Nemophila) is one of the top teir session drummers in japan.... multi instrumentalist, sight reads (like, jazz fusion and metal, complex time sigs, in real time)... composer etc. Saki (playing Killer guitars) is a very well known metal player who left her position in the successful metal band Mary's Blood to co-form/join Nemophila full time only just over 3 years ago. Haraguchi-san (bass) is the singer's old friend, and is similar age to the singer (20-something, young to be the bassist in such a major worldwide band who's other members are all older and kind of all-stars)... and the vocalist Mayo formed the band as a one off recording/performance project to showcase her vocals as she was feeling under-utilized in her prior group. Oh yes and Hazuki plays ibanez guitars, they both play 7 strings exclusively in this band, by the way. Hazuki is more intellectual/super technical of a player, Saki is a raunch rock star, but they both have crazy chops... very different tones, but that's part of the band's sound.
    They were never expected to become a group - both guitarists and the drummer were working full time professionally and doing extremely well in music and well known/highly regarded. But they all loved the sound of the project and the personalities of each other so much that it just never ended. 2 full albums later and several dozens of covid-era (and more recent) covers, they are now doing shows like you see here, with great financial backing, finally. Their first tour last year was much more small time, with no pro audio recording... stuffed into the whisky a go go sized places.... but that's how they finished their sound and wrote new songs. While being Japanese has some perks (there is a songwriter who works with them, as with all japanese bands), they also write some of their material on their own, and Mayu writes possibly all of the lyrics and melody concepts, and gradually it is becoming a band where the 5 of them do all of the songwriting.
    Also, the official music video for their song Adabana is good... the song is great... the drumming in it imho is super creative

    I will recommend you the next band, Mary's Blood. This is Saka's (Killer guitar) former band. Saki earned the nickname Queen of Shredding while playing MB. At MB concerts they were always supported by a second guitarist (the excellent Yashiro). The synergy and skills of the whole band were amazing, and Saki was very prominent. I recommend the reaction of the beautiful song Wings (usually they played harder) with Saki's beautiful diverse solo.

      Hi, keen observation. Revive is one of their songs that sounds less “japanese”. In Dissension there are more japanese elements for example. I think that the most japanese song is Enten from their album Seize the Fate, but unfortunately there is only the audio version at the moment.
