Nemophila (not Nemophil-i-a) are one of the bands to watch, no question. They just started in 2019 and blew up fast. As you can see from the gang vocals, they don't take themselves too seriously-Hazuki even winks. They almost seem to be enjoying a private joke, that goes "Hi, we're a bunch of cute, fun girls and we are going to rip your face off, and you are going to like it.” They are a supergroup, currently composed of: ex-Lipstick vocalist Mayu (founded the band) ex-Disqualia guitarist Hazuki (also plays with Lisa-X) ex-Hölderlins bassist Haraguchi-san, and ex-Soramimi drummer Murata Tamu (she is also in high demand for session work) Until April 2024, they were a 5-piece band. The fifth member, and actually the band-leader until she left, was ex-Mary's Blood guitarist Saki, arguably one of the top metal guitarists in the world. It remains to be seen as of this writing what directions the band and Saki, respectively, will take. Saki is the only one who had been with a breakout band before (Mary’s Blood). Hazuki and Murata-tamu are also considered elite musicians and have worked with a lot of other top artists. Hara-san is the youngest but is a great talent and has been developing in front of our eyes. She has already written several songs for the group. Mayu is quickly establishing herself as a unique vocalist capable of both cleans and hell-raising screams. Initially, they were just a side project, co-organized by Mayu with some help from Saki, largely to keep busy in the early days of the pandemic. And this isn't anywhere near their best track, IMO. The producer put too much effect on Mayu's vocals: she doesn't need that to enhance her scream. Their songs often feature some phrases in Japanese and some in English. Like most of the Japanese musicians, Mayu doesn't really speak much English and learns English lyrics phonetically. The only one of the band who really spoke English was SAKI, one of the guitarists, who left the band around Easter. Until that point they had two co-lead 7-string guitarists. SAKI is one of Japan's best established guitarists: she was previously in a well-known band called Mary'd Blood for about 10 years. She was in Nemophila for 5 years. The remaining guitarist is Hazuki who has a very clean, modern shred style. Hazuki is also in a Band called KOIAI which is more of a prog/pop/metal/shred fusion band started by the amazing young guitarist Li-sa-X.
Nemophila - "baby blue eyes" flower, "Rurikarakusa" in Japanese; grows in N-America and is appreciated in Japan (see "Hitachi Seaside Park"). The band was formed in 2019, originally as a "session" brought together by... Mayu - the vocalist (ex- Lipstick band); Haraguchi-san - (ex- HöLDERLINS band) bass, backing vocals, was Mayu's friend and colleague from Music College; Tamu Murata - drums, backing vocals, one the most respected session musician in Japan (countless bands), with also her own original carrier; she's also the wife of Akira Yamaoka, musician/composer, known especially for his videogames OSTs, in particular for "Silent Hill"; Saki (ex - "Mary's Blood" band for a decade, "Destrose", and others), she's a "young sacred monster" in J-metal) guitar, backing vocals, and... Hazuki (KOIAI "Dark Indigo" / Li-sa-X, Disqualia bands) - guitar, backing vocals; both, Saki and Hazuki have a lot of experience. Nemophila made an amazing fandom impression during the pandemic, thru TH-cam clips... ...so far about 50 Western/Japanese awesomely bonkers covers, and about 40 original, freakishly insane good songs (singles, EPs - including the JPURecords' Extended Edition of "Oiran", 3 albums - "Revive", "Seize The Faith", "Evolve"). For me..Most promising metalband in this Universe. They are doin’ same to Metal than Band-Maid is doin’ to Rock, they are saving it! Mayu’s vocals are definitely my alltime favourite vocals allready. Tamu( drummer) is my alltime favourite drummer. Haraguchi-sun on bass is the most loveable person ever. I have a little crush on her 😅 Hazuki is nowadays the only guitarist on the band, after Saki left three months ago. Hazuki is phenomenal musician and has allready shown that she can carry on those guitar parts on her own. As a 4 piece band today..They’ve been in studio and we are waiting new music to release later this year. They have made ca 10 liveshows in past two months and every reviews are praising how good they sound and how heavy they are, even heavier than before 🤘🔥 Magical band, amazing musicians 💥 Next song.. Oiran( Official Live Video), You’re gonna love it 🔥🤘❤️
Welcome to the kickass world of Nemophila. Formed in 2019 and has released 3 albums the latest one released this past January. Originally a 5 piece band up until the end of March when Saki the guitarist left and is doing solo career at the moment. Hazuki the other guitarist is an amazing shredder too and the band is moving on as a four piece and still kicking ass. Mayu the singer has a great banshee scream and growl too. In this video it is more screechy because they used an effect but she is even better live. She mixes growls and cleans very well and they have quite a few where she just sings cleans only. She is also playing some guitar now on some of the songs and possible more in the future with the departure of the other guitarist Saki. The drummer Tamu is one of the best out of Japan and the bass player Haraguchi-san is kick ass bass player and a ball of fire and has composed a few of the bands coolest songs like Zen, Hypnosis and Style. They have also done a lot of kick ass covers especially during covid lockdowns. But their originals is where they shine the best. They are very diverse and play many styles of metal and rock and even a few ballads. Check out some of their live songs like Oiran Live( their first song together as a band) Zen Live is amazing she growls through that whole song no cleans. Also try Adabana, RAITEI,Revive,Rise. They are even more than that too.
Mayu is my favorite vocalist. If you havent yet you must check out Hanabie especially the song We Love Sweets. Harsh vocals mixed with Kawaii vocals. Another band to check out is Koiai which features one of the guitarists from Nemophila (Hazuki } along with another phenomenal guitarist Lisa-X. The song to see is A New Picture (Live in Japan). You wont be disappointed by either.
They are all excellent musicians. And nemophila is a very unique and diverse band, with various genres of music appearing in their catalog. I recommend《oiran》live(recent one) as the next!🤘🏻🌸🤘🏻
Yes, the double lead guitars was one of the big selling points for me on Nemophila. I was very sad to see Saki leave. :( Not dumping them or anything, but I feel the loss. Dual leads was a big thing with metal bands in the 80's, so I will miss it!
From a few interviews I've heard, they will use english words for more emphasis as well as sometimes it just sounds cooler. Nemophila, Band-Maid and Hanabie all do this & Lovebites just sings in english (Except for 1 song).
Great reaction!....Nemophila (neh-moe-fee-la) is 🔥🔥🔥 Nemophila has a WIDE range of sound and style...here are some suggestions based on Mayu's lead vocals (cleans vs screams) Cleans Raitei (Live) th-cam.com/video/6aoghIEPOYc/w-d-xo.html Seize the Fate (Live) th-cam.com/video/yyKGK1Se4bo/w-d-xo.html Odyssey (MV) th-cam.com/video/J8RhjQpFf_Q/w-d-xo.html Life (live) th-cam.com/video/CxmLOhDVoyw/w-d-xo.html Cleans + Screams Revive (Live) th-cam.com/video/t2eMoKvsvBE/w-d-xo.html Rise (Live) th-cam.com/video/DaFN5J4iPLI/w-d-xo.html Dissention (MV) th-cam.com/video/26aMuahxz8c/w-d-xo.html Oiran (Live) th-cam.com/video/5qABnfChpbk/w-d-xo.html Adabana (MV) th-cam.com/video/AxYiOwsu6wU/w-d-xo.html Ama-Te-Ras (Live) th-cam.com/video/96LQimRqJgM/w-d-xo.html Screams Zen (Live) th-cam.com/video/k1yPbBRHFms/w-d-xo.html Most people start with Dissention (MV, Japanese ver.) or Revive (MV) and then Adabana (MV), Rise (MV), etc. 'Zen' (live), Oiran (live) and Dissention (MV) are some of their hardest and best songs 'Odyssey' is an incredible power ballad (80's style) and 'Live' is an emotional ballad-like song sung in the video as a 'welcome back' to Tamu (drummer) after her maternity leave. Great songs that show the softer side of Nemophila. 'Ama-Te-Ras' is a quite unique 'groovy metal' song and one of their best as well
For your information Lovebites after the EP Lovebites the only EP without the wolf sang everything in English including Harunas song Bravehearted that was translated from Japanese on Lovebites EP to English on The Awakening from the Abyss when they transferred all 4 songs off the EP to the 1st whole album
Maximum the Hormone have been a huge influence on the J Metal scene for over 20 years. Check out their latest track "Satsui vs Satsui" translated Intent to murder- Intent to kill. Make sure to take frequent pauses as Warner Japan is very strike happy.
So from what I understand there is some English taught in schools but it is not to the level of fluency required in conversation. It is fairly common to have English words in Japanese songs, whether this is to add emphasis or sound cool or whatever depends on the song and the group and the target audience (Japanese groups with a Western audience or hoping to attract a Western audience will add more and try to use them correctly). That said there are some Japanese bands where some of the members are actually fluent in English, Nemophila was one of them (Saki the guitarist on the right is fully fluent in English, however she has recently left the band, there is an older interview with her by Herman Li of DragonForce in English talking about all things guitar/music/bands th-cam.com/video/j7yVmJhzkQI/w-d-xo.html) I'm not sure how much English the rest of the band knows but Saki was the one that talked to the crowd at the US shows (I seem to recall Mayu saying she was working on it). Another band that has members that are fluent in English is Lovebites with both Asami and Midori being fully fluent (Asami perhaps a bit more than Midori, but both have spent significant time in the USA, here is a video of them speaking English th-cam.com/video/3tW2FCidRfk/w-d-xo.html), further Miyako and Fami seem to have spent a bit of effort learning a few phrases and working on their pronunciation but they don't seem to be fluent. The one band that you would be sure the singer was fluent in English is Lonesome_Blue (see "Face The Fear" th-cam.com/video/57My6iSPBl4/w-d-xo.html) but it turns out no she isn't, Maiko Nomura is just a damn good vocalist and voice actress (maybe she has studied International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) which is taught in high level Vocal/Acting Schools). I don't remember if it was an interview or social media or TH-cam, but I recall her saying she can't speak English (which was shocking because of how good her pronunciation is). Asami from Lovebites did help with some of the lyrics for Lonesome_Blue (Mao a long time collaborator with Lovebites wrote some of the music). There is a band from Korea that is highly skilled linguistically, Rolling Quartz (all female, 5 piece, KRock, they are getting a lot of attention on the internet lately), in addition to Korean, 4 of them speak English, 2 of them speak Japanese, 1 Speaks Spanish, 1 can read/write Russian, and 1 is learning Arabic. The amount of determination they have to learn things is amazing.
Their song AMA-TE-RAS (Official Live video) th-cam.com/video/96LQimRqJgM/w-d-xo.html is also a song you would like a lot Many Japanese groups uses English words and or phrases mixed in their lyrics
Yes, "hell of a song". The lyrics deal with looking down on others and hurting others. And they deal with the choice whether to help the victims or to join the haters. *Nemophila (of course) plead for helping victims* and for warning the haters: "Better end that shit." And "One day it will be too late to regret. You will end up in dark loneliness." ( *"Countdown is starting. Remember that."* ) Hell of a message.
Overview Lyrics, English and Japanese The hardships of life and human fever 生き苦しさと 人熱に I looked down a little now. 今はちょっと視線を落としてた Even believing today 信じることさえ今日は I held my breath because I wanted to forget 忘れたくて息をひそめてた Things we can't understand, a time full of contradictions 分かり合えないこと 矛盾だらけの時間を Because I can't look back anymore もう振りかえらないから The feeling that I loved you to death 死ぬほどに愛したなんて想いなど There can't be any, that's how I felt あるはずもない そう感じてた If I touch you now, I'll know what it means 今あなたに触れて その意味知るから Tears, smiles, pain, hatred, everything 涙 笑顔 痛み 憎しみ すべて The love that rises up 込み上げてくる愛しさ I guess this is called forever これを永遠と言うのだろう To you who broke chasing your dreams 夢追いかけて 破れた君に I spoke in a gentle voice ちょっと優しい声をかけた I can't give up on myself 諦められない自分を I feel small that I was a little proud 少し誇ったことを小さく思う I was able to say that it's okay if we don't understand each other. 分かり合えなくていいなんて言えたのは Absolute proof that I was too young 幼すぎた絶対証明 If I can't reach you, life isn't worth living. あなたに届かないなら生きる価値などない Because I think so now 今ならそう 思えるから I'll touch you now and know what it means 今 あなたに触れて その意味知るから Tears, smiles, pain, hatred, everything 涙 笑顔 痛み 憎しみ すべて The love that rises up 込み上げてくる愛しさ This will lead to the future これが未来へと繋がるんだろう The pain in my chest, even to heaven わたしの胸の痛み 天国までだって I'm sure it will arrive きっと届くから The feeling that I loved you to death 死ぬほどに愛したなんて想いなど There can't be any, that's how I felt あるはずもない そう感じてた If I touch you now, I'll know what it means 今あなたに触れて その意味知るから Tears, smiles, pain, hatred, everything 涙 笑顔 痛み 憎しみ すべて The love that rises up 込み上げてくる愛しさ I guess this is called forever これを永遠と言うのだろう Even while facing loneliness, someday 孤独と向き合いながらでもいつか Even if it's a little selfish 少しわがままだとしても we walk the same path 僕らは同じ道を歩くんだ
Mayu, the singer, sings and screams in both Japanese and English. She uses whichever language she feels is better for the part/song. She doesn't speak English she learns the English lyrics phonetically. Yes, both guitarists play in the solos and usually have a duet during the solo section. The other band members are Haraguchi-san (Bass), Murata Tamu (Drums), Hazuki (Guitar) and Saki (Guitar, she left the band in March 2024, the band has continued as a four piece). Also, check out Hanabie (Ha-Nah-Bee-Aye), starting with "We Love Sweets", Trident "Ambivalent", and NEK! (Neck-Ee) "Get Over".
great reaction thank you , both guitarists use a 7 string , unfortunately Saki the one in the video on the right left the band 3 months ago to give way to her solo career , they decided to continue in 4 and they are still fantastic , for the next one i recommend "rise" th-cam.com/video/rD3VMAm-9iA/w-d-xo.html&start_radio=1
Theres no "IA" at the end of the name. Optical illusion that 99% of people fall for. Its just FILA at the end. If you like something different try their early song from the same period as Dissension called "MONSTERS". One of my favorites from Nemophila and is a great track for guitar as well. The other track with the interesting and excellent break down is Adabana. Nemophila dont have a bad song really. If you would like to see how a band transfers into a 4 piece (since the guitarist with red fingernails, Saki, just left) check out their older songs, now re-released last month with just Hazuki as lead, called "Rise" and also "Back into the Wild".
MAYU is screaming in English, just as you see in the subtitles. The clean parts are a mix of Japanese and English. I think they mix it up to make the songs sound cool to the Japanese audience. Most Japanese labels make zero effort to promote their acts overseas. FYI, this video was originally released without subtitles. As groups like BAND-MAID, LOVEBITES, HANABIE, and NEMOPHILA gained more attention in TH-cam, their managment have gradually made more efforts to reach foreign audiences, at least through social media, and some touring, but you still can buy media (music and video) only in Japan. Next, watch ADABANA, RISE, MONSTERS, and REVIVE. Start with the OMVs, then move on to live videos.
Personal opinion: Japanese people think that Japanese doesn't fit into rock music. So they use English in the lyrics here and there, and pronounce Japanese in an English way so it doesn't sound out of place.
Not sure why this band isn't MUCH bigger.
Zen, Adabana and Oiran are must hear songs.
These girls are amazing try OIRAN live or RISE live next.
Next reaction, AMA-TE-RAS, 🔥🔥🔥🤘🤘🤘❤️❤️❤️

Mayu - the vocalist (ex- Lipstick band);
Haraguchi-san - (ex- HöLDERLINS band) bass, backing vocals, was Mayu's friend and colleague from Music College;
Tamu Murata - drums, backing vocals, one the most respected session musician in Japan (countless bands), with also her own original carrier; she's also the wife of Akira Yamaoka, musician/composer, known especially for his videogames OSTs, in particular for "Silent Hill";
Saki (ex - "Mary's Blood" band for a decade, "Destrose", and others), she's a "young sacred monster" in J-metal) guitar, backing vocals, and...

I have a little crush on her 😅
Hazuki is nowadays the only guitarist on the band, after Saki left three months ago. Hazuki is phenomenal musician and has allready shown that she can carry on those guitar parts on her own.
As a 4 piece band today..They’ve been in studio and we are waiting new music to release later this year.
They have made ca 10 liveshows in past two months and every reviews are praising how good they sound and how heavy they are, even heavier than before 🤘🔥 Magical band, amazing musicians 💥
Next song..
I always kind of think Nemophila is to Lovebites, as Van Halen was to Iron Maiden. Both awesome bands, but for very different reasons. 🤘🔥
Well said!
🤘🤘🤘
Would definately recommend Hanabie. also for a nice mix of clean and harsh vocals 👍
Another great guitarist, Hal-ca from Asterism
"Dawn" or "Church." More great harsh and clean vocals, Regan from the band Saiseiga.
Please react to more Nemophila Oiran , Rise , Revive , Odyssey
They are all excellent musicians. And nemophila is a very unique and diverse band, with various genres of music appearing in their catalog. I recommend《oiran》live(recent one) as the next!🤘🏻🌸🤘🏻
Yes, the double lead guitars was one of the big selling points for me on Nemophila. I was very sad to see Saki leave. :( Not dumping them or anything, but I feel the loss. Dual leads was a big thing with metal bands in the 80's, so I will miss it!
Next Raitei, Zen (live) and Change the World (live - my fav)
From a few interviews I've heard, they will use english words for more emphasis as well as sometimes it just sounds cooler. Nemophila, Band-Maid and Hanabie all do this & Lovebites just sings in english (Except for 1 song).
Great reaction!....Nemophila (neh-moe-fee-la) is 🔥🔥🔥
Nemophila has a WIDE range of sound and style...here are some suggestions based on Mayu's lead vocals (cleans vs screams)
Cleans
Raitei (Live) th-cam.com/video/6aoghIEPOYc/w-d-xo.html
Seize the Fate (Live) th-cam.com/video/yyKGK1Se4bo/w-d-xo.html
Odyssey (MV) th-cam.com/video/J8RhjQpFf_Q/w-d-xo.html
Life (live) th-cam.com/video/CxmLOhDVoyw/w-d-xo.html
Cleans + Screams
Revive (Live) th-cam.com/video/t2eMoKvsvBE/w-d-xo.html
Rise (Live) th-cam.com/video/DaFN5J4iPLI/w-d-xo.html
Dissention (MV) th-cam.com/video/26aMuahxz8c/w-d-xo.html
Oiran (Live) th-cam.com/video/5qABnfChpbk/w-d-xo.html
Adabana (MV) th-cam.com/video/AxYiOwsu6wU/w-d-xo.html
Ama-Te-Ras (Live) th-cam.com/video/96LQimRqJgM/w-d-xo.html
Screams
Zen (Live) th-cam.com/video/k1yPbBRHFms/w-d-xo.html
Most people start with Dissention (MV, Japanese ver.) or Revive (MV) and then Adabana (MV), Rise (MV), etc.
'Zen' (live), Oiran (live) and Dissention (MV) are some of their hardest and best songs
'Odyssey' is an incredible power ballad (80's style) and 'Live' is an emotional ballad-like song sung in the video as a 'welcome back' to Tamu (drummer) after her maternity leave.
Their song AMA-TE-RAS (Official Live video) th-cam.com/video/96LQimRqJgM/w-d-xo.html is also a song you would like a lot
Many Japanese groups uses English words and or phrases mixed in their lyrics
Revive (live) and Oiran (live) both from the same gig
Yes, "hell of a song".
The lyrics deal with looking down on others and hurting others. And they deal with the choice whether to help the victims or to join the haters.
*Nemophila (of course) plead for helping victims* and for warning the haters: "Better end that shit." And "One day it will be too late to regret. You will end up in dark loneliness." ( *"Countdown is starting. Remember that."* )
Hell of a message.

I looked down a little now.

Even believing today

I held my breath because I wanted to forget
忘れたくて息をひそめてた
Things we can't understand, a time full of contradictions

If I touch you now, I'll know what it means
今あなたに触れて その意味知るから
Tears, smiles, pain, hatred, everything
涙 笑顔 痛み 憎しみ すべて
The love that rises up
込み上げてくる愛しさ
I guess this is called forever
これを永遠と言うのだろう
To you who broke chasing your dreams
夢追いかけて 破れた君に
I spoke in a gentle voice
ちょっと優しい声をかけた
I can't give up on myself
諦められない自分を
I feel small that I was a little proud
少し誇ったことを小さく思う
I was able to say that it's okay if we don't understand each other.

The pain in my chest, even to heaven

Even while facing loneliness, someday
孤独と向き合いながらでもいつか
Even if it's a little selfish
少しわがままだとしても
we walk the same path
僕らは同じ道を歩くんだ
Tremendo hit de Nemophila❤
The black nails guitarist is HAZUKI and the other guitarist is SAKI (she left NEMOPHILA now...but she said (in instagram) the status still hiatus).
🤘🇺🇦❤️🌸
⚡️🤟🏻⚡️
great reaction thank you , both guitarists use a 7 string , unfortunately Saki the one in the video on the right left the band 3 months ago to give way to her solo career , they decided to continue in 4 and they are still fantastic ,
for the next one i recommend "rise"
th-cam.com/video/rD3VMAm-9iA/w-d-xo.html&start_radio=1
Great, isn't it?
Personal opinion:
Japanese people think that Japanese doesn't fit into rock music. So they use English in the lyrics here and there, and pronounce Japanese in an English way so it doesn't sound out of place.
Ok Ok now your just showing off .... great intro as always
