I like to see his new team give him the respect he deserves because i noticed few games he been brushed to one side when he set up goals or others. He as proven his stature since he was 16 years of age and still lives up to being 1 of footballs greatest players. I like to see him win MLS trophy at his new United team because his previous club respect him highly amongst fans and board members of our past. I still think rooney is underrated
As an Englishman, glad to see the English lads do well in the states! Rooney, Wright - Phillips, Cole so on and so on.
As an American who lived in England for many years...and enjoyed every minute of it...so am I. I have always wanted to see the MLS take it's lead from the Premiership in regards to speed, physical approach, which we're getting very close to as well as technique and tactics, which we need to keep improving on, not there yet but I think it will happen. I think that even though some of the English players may be past their "physical prime" much of the game is played inside the head and this is where Wayne and the other lads can help and teach in volumes. People tend to forget that but it is one of the best assets that can be difficult if not impossible to teach on the training ground and players showing and leading by example like Wayne are an excellent example. A special thanks to a certain Mr. Beckham who really got the ball rolling concerning this.
mystiq86 Absolutley! Football is still pretty new to the states, where as Europe and South America has been at it for awhile. Of course standards will be higher.
So its natural to get talent from those areas, to the States to learn from.
And you can see the quality in the MLS , and interest is coming on strong! Be nice to see MLS teams in the Champions League!
Yeah we were moving and growing as a football, soccer or whatever ( cracks me up when people take exception to it being called soccer, lol ) nation from the 1800's onward that I think we would have been right up there with the rest. What killed it in the states though was World War 2. We lost to many good players and coaches...as opposed to most of the baseball and American football players who were either exempted from serving or had non combat positions. Our "cream of the crop" really and we never really recovered. The sport was not quite "ingrained" into American sporting culture like it had been in Europe and South America and even though England and continental countries suffered terrible losses in regards to players and coaches, they were able to bounce back and carry on. I can only wonder how it could've and should've gone for us but that's how it goes.
