I was born and raised in Nicaragua, but even like that, I had the privilege to get an education and now I live in the US. This documentary shows the poor of the poor. Thank you for creating this documentary while you experienced it. You did it with respect and dignity. Thank you for that.
I am Nicaraguan . And I'm so glad you guys made this video as a young girl I would always travel to nicaragua for summer vacation and saw a lot of poverty in my country . Even some of my family members lived like this . I believe believe everyone should be exposed to this world of poverty . Made me a very humble being. One image I can not get out of my head as a 8 year old is witnessing children on a corner sniffing glue and just out of it . . Cant wait to see more of your videos keep it up you guys .
thanks for supporting Nicaragua. God bless you guys! I'm nicaraguan, I went to limonal last year and honestly is sad what people have to do to survive there! i really appreciate it what you're doing guys
it's 2 o'clock in the morning and I'm finishing watching the whole video, I'm honestly crying, it's really motivating to see how all those people in poverty, are happy and fight every day. thanks for help them, thanks for show us this face of the world. GOD BLESS YOU.
@@lilylily7072 It'd be difficult to explain to them that, despite their poverty, they are probably at least as happy as alot of people in the west. Their pockets are empty, but it is our lives that are empty, not theirs. The struggle to survive gives them purpose. We don't seem to have any....
This is an excellent video. Heartwarming and gut-wrenching! Not only made me more grateful for what I enjoy as a U.S. citizen but made me want to to commit to "Global solidarity" in practical ways. Looking now at how I can sponsor some school children in poorer countries. Thanks "gringos" for not exploiting these dear people but loving them and giving them the opportunity to tell their stories. You hit it out of the park with this docu!
Dude I just moved to Kamloops. Crazy seeing someone from here that has done so much as yourself. Be proud at what your team has done and for getting the word out there!
2 months later the students and the people started protesting in the streets... but that's another story. Thank you for taking the time to come to our country. Saludos.
Its hard to believe that in 2019 , almost 2020 , we still have ignorant and uneducated people that are trying to compare homelessness and poverty In the USA Vs Nicaragua . There is no reason to be homeless in this country . Jobs are plentiful and there are numerous organizations to turn to for help . Need food ? the local food pantry will feed you . Need shelter ? the local church will house you for the night . Need a cell phone ? can still get one of those free government phones . In Nicaragua there is NONE of those services !!! No red cross , no food pantry ... basically no social services . You are on your own poor or not , abandoned by a government that cant even take care of itself . You cant even compare the two , not even close !! Here in Wisconsin , there is even an organization that will sponsor you a vehicle and cover your insurance . The people living and working in the dump have no other choice , there is nobody or organization like there is here , to offer any assistance .
Eric Maass I agree with a lot you said... but let’s not forget that there is a reason to be homeless in this country. A full time job still is not enough to pay for rent in most major cities.... and that’s all I’m going to say rethink your ideas of homelessness
Much of what you said is true but there are plenty of good reasons to be homeless in America. American cities are expensive, there is little to no safety net for single males (hence why most of them are men), USA marginalizes black Americans and discriminates against them in employment and housing and has done so for centuries and they are effectively corralled into areas due to segregation. So it is not true that they can access those service. even a white guy if he looks too homeless will get the cops called on him in the wrong areas. We know 50% of America's homeless are blacks and they have been abandoned by the government forever.
Really nicely done compassionate and humble just an honest reflection of how things are and a reminder of the insane level of privilege we are unaware of in the west
20:03 Does not anyone feel really terrible for the environment? Recyclables, food waste, medical waste all mixed in. That was a hill of just garbage! Don't they have any better systems in place? Just look at that river...its dead! I feel more for the environment than the people! What i still cant get around my head is that even in developed countries we still use a dump site to just throw rubbish away! Consumerism culture!
I just returned from Chinadega which is the town where the dump is located . Up until a few years ago , they didnt have a garbage pick up program so everybody threw trash wherever . It still goes on despite garbage pick up .
You are a bigger piece of shit than anything in the garbage, or the river. You are a complete waste of air and food Seriously, I'm almost seventy, and I doubt I've read or heard anything as pathetic, as moronic, or as foolish as your comment more than three or four times. That river isn't the only thing that's dead. So is your brain, your heart, and your soul.

Good work, 1.5hr, very humbling and sad yet inspirational and motivating. Combined with love and compassion. You have a documentary film that tells a great story. God Bless, best real documentary ive seen in a long time.
Thank you for sharing this and doing what it takes to get as much as possible out of this way of living, it is very enlightening, and also disheartening to know how some have to survive, though this is the TRUTH, as you see it before your very eyes, and that I thank you for.

I haven’t been able to visit this country so far. My mom told me stories of how her family went when she was a little girl. Her great parents lived in a hole with dirt floors and had a pet parrot and a horse. They were highly respected in the town they lived in. My mom would take naps with her grandma some days and help around the house. I have cousins in Nicaragua and California but I don’t know ANY of them. Sadly growing up I wasn’t taught Spanish or any of my families culture. So now I don’t know anything and it’s very sad to me. How my family came to the U.S for a better life but forgot their culture and where they came from. One day I would love to visit
I can take you to the city of Oakland where we have tens of thousands of homeless people and endless homeless encampments in which you can volunteer and help clean up. Some of these streets here in Oakland are filled with disgusting garbage and abject poverty everywhere. If you email me I can show you so you can set up a documentary film here in the San Francisco Bay area as well. It will suit your agenda well :)

Not even half way watching here . Seen that Beautiful Little Boys feet , How sad little ones are taken to a place like this . Yet parents knowing this danger. Need all the help from family members to feed their Families . I find it very sad
I was born in Milwaukee Wisconsin good Ole USA" My parents are from Nicaragua never been there these are my people my blood and if lord helps me i will help these poor people. Its not right
They are def. making progress . Some have housing now and are out of the dump , as far as living conditions . I was there in December and stopped by the new community center to ask what they could use for donations , but it was later in the day and no one was there . Im returning again this year though and hope to help in anyway I can .
I agree with the garbage truck driver, it is the responsibility of government to take care of the people. It is easy to look around the world and see that there are few governments that actually live up to that creed. The wealthier countries spend the largess of excess on weapons, billions of dollars in weapons, such a waste. The wealthier countries are so many pirates, which shows fundamentally things have not changed much. The poorer countries spend whatever they can for defensive weaponry to keep from being invaded and stolen from. The wealthier keep the poor poorer. The wealthier countries spend billions on border security and walls to keep the poor from entering their stolen paradise to just have bread to eat, to escape misery and poverty. Had the wealthier countries gave their excess, the money spent on weapons, border security, walls and fences, to their neighboring countries so the basic needs of the people could be met; food, housing, education, health care, employment, then the poverty could be eliminated and there would be a more stable and equitable world for all. A more human and humane world is possible. Instead there is the old glorification of greed, war, and piracy, which is shameful. The world doesn't need to be like this. This is the age old reality of kingdoms and empires that have caused misery for centuries. The world will never be well while this problem persists. It is said one day the world will not be like this, there will be peace and cooperation. It will be the end of this cruel reality of human suffering and the destruction of the environment. That world is necessary, it's evolution of the human heart and soul and a revolution of the human mind that will not allow human suffering nor the destruction of the environment which sustains all life.
food, housing, education and employment can all be achieved without money. Don't forget, money is an invention of man, and is not needed for survival. Healthcare at a western level is another matter, if they need to buy in the machines.
the thing that pisses me off is all the talk that America should give more. have you seen the homeless in America? have you been to west Virginia we have our own problems don't lay this at our feet
I was just thinking the same thing. Here in the west coast in the state of California there are hundreds of thousands of homeless people everywhere. In 2019 it's gotten worse. You should see the scum that we have to live with in the sidewalks of San Francisco and other major cities such as Sacramento, Los Angeles, San Jose, Oakland, San Diego, Etc. Just in San Francisco alone we have around 15,000 homeless people and encampments with feces everywhere. Even Donald Trump told Nancy Pelosi to clean up the Streets of San Francisco because that is the fame we get nationally now. There was a homeless man running around on Market Street that we called the garbage man because he literally would eat and live off of the garbage from the high-rise buildings that dot The Market Street corridor. which is why I always find it interesting that you see these documentaries on poverty in Africa and Latin America but you fail to have the same kind of attention to abject poverty in the western world.
@@mayayalasinki A big part of the problem is that many proposed housing soultions are near communities that don't want them nearby. So the City is in constant legal battles with those people, choosing between the entitled and the homeless.
Just like us...? WUT?? they live day to day not knowing where there next meal is coming from . With no health care, A.c. hot water.. What a foolish statement...😥
