No you are rich . I keep reminding my husband of this. He was blessed to find a good job that pays our mortgage and bills and food and he keeps getting into accidents because he can’t stay off the cellphone . I’m so angry with him. He lost his business because he had so many accidents from being on the phone . If we end up homeless it’s gonna be his fault for being fired. He just doesn’t get it. He will not make even a quarter of the money anywhere else that he makes at this job. I lost my job of 7 yrs due to business closing. I can’t find a job that pays even half what I made . All that’s out there are min wage jobs . Nobody wants to pay a decent living wage. We had to keep my husbands life insurance coz if he dies in an accident, I’m not gonna be able to support myself . I’ll lose the house . And we just bought this house back in 2017, no money down. We still have 20 yrs left. Hubby will be 80. We both expect if we live long enough that whoever is left will lose everything to a nursing home. That’s what happens . They take all of your assets . They go back five years.
So if u trust someone to put the house in their name so it won’t be taken but most ppl can not be trusted.
I have one sister that I trust . But she’s in even worse health condition than I am. And she will end up in a nursing home way before me . She has a condo . That’s gonna get taken . None of us trust her children . And I have no kids . I was in a nursing home to visit my mother in law with hubby. And there was a lovely woman of 101, she told me she has 11 children. None come to visit or wanted to take her in . That made me so sad. They put her in there. I fear the future is to just kill off anyone over 75. They see the elderly as a burden to the system and they don’t want to be paying SS to anyone who’s living to 100. You know ? They expect u to expire before 90.

When I was in my twenties....a long time ago, I worked for an audiovisual company that serviced a big hotel. They expected me to wear a three-piece suit as I crawled on the floor connecting cords, etc...for a hair above minimum wage. They lied that I'd be full-time.....I only had ten hours on the schedule! I worked there for half a day and walked out. The owner called me and bitched.....I told him to shove it. Still annoys me to think of this and other jobs that I started and quit immediately that would have been sheer exploitation.

Now, I think , not you, but your way of thinking is ignorant. You seem not to accept , that the statistics show , poor struggling single women, raising children on there own are most likely to live in poverty. This is one of the things that creates generational poverty, because what do you have to give to help your kids , get a step up in the world? When I was a kid, my family and I used to go to this diner near our home and there was a waitress we loved. Years later when my brother and I were in our early twenties, we happened to go to another restaurant and saw her there. She was still waitressing and she remembered us. We talked about money and how hard things were and she said to us that people always say that we don't work hard enough in this country if we have to struggle so hard, and that she says back to them that we work just as hard or harder and have less to show for it. Docs like this make this point. These people aren't lazy. They work FT, most days a week and still can't survive. They are the people she was referring to who work hard and have less to show for it. What do they have to show for working every single day of their lives? Not even the bare minimum of contentment and being able to know all of their bills are paid each month. That is criminal.

I had everything I wanted and we went to Disneyland and all the theme parks 4 times a year. She even bought a house later on. But it is all the fees and other costs that makes it not possible today. You say your mother was earning $10 an hour 40 years ago, the security guy in the video is only earning $11 an hour yet rent, food, utilities, gas, healthcare, education have all tripled if not more. The system is in error not these people my only question is when are Americans going to start doing something about it instead of blaming the poor for their situation?

According to the statistical data the average wage for 1976 was $4.76 per hour, the highest rates per hour were in the construction industry @ $7.49 per hour. The basic minimum wage in the US as of 2017 is $7.25 per hour....there is something very wrong with what is happening in America and it has nothing to do with how hard a person works.

You're free to. Move, I mean. Anywhere you like. Truly. Send out resumes and see where it takes you.

I don't know, maybe part of it's the fact that you're in a hurry. You've grown up on instant orange juice. Flip a dial - instant entertainment. Dial seven digits - instant communication. Turn a key - push a pedal - instant transportation. Flash a card - instant money. Shove in a problem - push a few buttons - instant answers. But some problems you can't get quick answers for, no matter how much you want them. We took a little boy into Central Receiving Hospital yesterday; he's four years old. He weighs eight-and-a-half pounds. His parents just hadn't bothered to feed him. Now give me a fast answer to that one; one that'll stop that from ever happening again. And if you can't settle that one, how about the 55,000 Americans who'll die on the highway this year? That's nearly six or seven times the number that'll get killed in Vietnam. Why aren't you up in arms about that? Or is dying in a car somehow moral? Show me how to wipe out prejudice. I'll settle for the prejudices you have inside yourselves. Show me how to get rid of the unlimited capacity for human beings to make themselves believe they're somehow right - and justified - in stealing from somebody, or hurting somebody, and you'll just about put this place here out of business!

The biggest question is why isn’t taught already. Honestly our education system is a failure from sex education, to health, and financial literacy. All of these who are left up to parents who barely know anything either or don’t want it being taught in schools bc it’s “personal.” Wealth is passed down and so is poverty.
After 13-15 years you really realize how crappy it is. Right out of highschool straight into student loan debt.
Personal responsibility is very important but I we have to hold the “people” who are in charge of allocating these resources accountable too . It’s is really easy to blame people but when you find out so many are set up to fail and struggle it’s sickening. Thank goodness I have the resources to educate myself. I’ve seen the same problem play over and over from decade to decade, people are still facing the same problems that were shown in this documentary, today!
LIKE WTF have our representatives, governors,Congress men/women ,local officials, presidents BEEN DOING. Answer: serving the interest of corporations.
Lastly I believe if they seriously taught citizens about finance, enomics, politics, health etc you create a society where people are more inclined to ask about the structures put in place than just blindly participate and vouch for it .
“We wouldn’t want people to actually hold our officials accountable and questions such systems would we” 🧐🤔

Capitalism wins, killing off the middle class
It is all your money. every penny of a billionaires wealth is a penny of another persons labor
DEMOCRACY FOR ALL IN THE USA
A thousand years ago, if you were a marauding gang and you wanted to take over a country’s land and its natural resources and public sector, you’d have to invade it with military troops. Now you use finance to take over countries. So it leads us into a realm where everything that the classical economists saw and argued for - public investment, bringing costs in line with the actual cost of production - that’s all rejected in favor of a rentier class evolving into an oligarchy. Basically, financiers - the 1% - are going to pry away the public domain from the government. Pry away and privatize the public enterprises, land, natural resources, so that bondholders and privatizers get all of the revenue for themselves. It’s all sucked up to the top of the pyramid, impoverishing the 99%.

This is so sad. It's not just the hourly non-college graduates. I know some college graduates that can't even make ends meet. Things are not the same as they were before. The rich are getting richer and the poor still suffer.
My family and I moved to the US with $100 cash and nothing else years ago (legally). My mom was making $4 an hour at a manufacturer. We were dirt poor. We were not on any assisting programs whatsoever. We found a tiny trailer that we paid $180 a month. All of us lived together. Most of the times, I would just starve and ate only once a day. School provided lunches but I was not qualified due to my mom making "too much" money. 😐 I stuck with it and studied my behind off. I worked full time during high school and college. My mom wasn't able to help other than providing a roof over our heads and food on the table. I took out student loan and kept studying.
Now I'm "someone" in a huge corporation and making great money. Im married to a wonderful guy. He's also "someone" in an even bigger company. I'm able to spend on whatever I want, big house, vacation home, luxury cars, designer clothing and luxury vacations. My husband and I maxed out our 401k contributions and always put money away for rainy days.
Just recently I decided that we needed a bigger/better house and a condo in Hawaii. We were so close to closing the deals and I saw this. My heart sank and I pulled out of the deals. For a moment, I forgot all those hard times. I'm ashamed of myself. I kept wanting more and more. Even we can afford it, we're not going to. By all means, we're going to keep enjoying our lives but I will not be going crazy. My heart goes out to everyone that cannot make ends meet. I've been donating but will increase it now. This is an eye opener for me.

I still have panic attacks about NOTHING. I found good counselors, who told me PTSD is something that can happen to anyone.
