Cheers for that Phill. Yes, very frustrating re' the hares. I can't believe folk still gain amusement from it. Not only cruel but it strikes me as a bit of a hillbilly thing from history. ATB, Chris
It's so tragic when you realise that somewhere on that Moor is a little boy who still hasn't been found. Because of how much time has passed, it's incredibly unlikely that he will ever be found. :(
@@ChrisJB I can imagine. Visiting the moors is on my bucket list. Forgetting everything that happened there, it still looks like an incredibly beautiful and peaceful place
Nice one Chris, good watch on my lunch at work. Crompton Moor in your neck of the woods was on Countryfile last night looking at reforesting it. Cheers
Cheers Dave. I watched it because a really good pal of mine was on it.....Bob Kenworthy (dry stone waller near the end). He's my main birding buddy 🙂. The map showing Crompton Moor wasn't exactly accurate either! It placed our house as being on the moor......though it is quite close!
@@ChrisJB ah nice one, interesting. I've done a bit of dry stone walling myself, did a course with the Yorkshire guild a couple of years ago. I like a nice wall, haha
Hello Daz. Thanks for the compliment. SM is a quite a cool place. It can get busy on the western side but moving further east you can usually find quiet and remote places. Best wishes, Chris
Thoroughly enjoyable short vlog Chris. It's got some kind of rep has Saddleworth Moor. Nice to see and hear another side to it. I can imagine them adventures. It sounds so big up there it's no wonder you headed that way for a good 22 miler. Yeah, they do get some stick the buzzards. Good going. Have a cool week. Mark
You are right Mark. Mention SM and the obvious immediately comes to mind. On this walk I was very close to a spot where flowers and things are still laid. Me and certain pals have had some wonderful days up there though when we were lads. Wildlife persecution is still an issue. The police are currently investigating an incident of mountain hare coursing, which explains why I'm just not seeing them this winter. Anyway, hope you are well mate and have a good week yourself. Best wishes, Chris
@@ChrisJB It's a big area - about 8by10KM. You can see why they tried to bury their evidence there. A shame about the wildlife but we have these industrial landowners who feel nothing almost. I'm doing alright Chris. I'm going to have a look at some saddleworth moor videos now. See how remote and wild it is.
Recently found out dickheads have been coursing them with dogs up here Dave. The police are investigating 😡. Thanks for the kind words mate and I hope you are well. 👍
Cheers Tito. You'd really like Saddleworth. Some good walking and excellent local history and architecture re the old buildings. Some decent pubs too. Hope you are well mate. Cheers, Chris
Brilliant Chris 👍 great to see Wessenden valley and black moss in all its glory. Looks like you got a nice day out there and of course the usual interesting facts that come along with it. Hope you're well mate - Tom
Cheers Tom. It was good for the spirits to walk in a bit of sunshine. I'm a big fan of Wessenden....lots of memories of long walks to Black Hill and West Nab. Best wishes, Chris
Thanks Ben. I'm still living off the back of this one having been isolating pretty much since. However my.perios of incarceration ends tomorrow. Hope you are well. ATB, Chris
Nice tour of the moors Chris , the mountain hare is avoiding you lol . Think I have seen those lichens and mosses up my neck of the woods , I will capture some footage next time I do . atb Dave
Thanks Dave. I've found out some arseholes have been after the mountain hares with dogs which would explain a lot unfortunately. I expect you will have seen the mosses and lichens up there on your cleaner hills 😁. Our moors are only just recovering after all the pollution from the old mill towns. Cheers, Chris
Thanks Andrew. I'm a big fan of that area too. I feel lucky having it pretty close to home. It's very handy in these Covid times when we can't travel far. ATB, Chris
Really enjoyed that, especially views, sound track and days gone by aspects. Felt like I was actually there. So another big thanks and thumbs up for filming, editing and sharing with us all. Really relaxing. ATB Dave
How do Dave. Many thanks for your lovely words. I must apologise too. I thought I'd already subscribed to your YT station and I hadn't. Anyway, I've just put it right. Best wishes, Chris
Hello Chris, loved the walk-in intro and the accompanying music. Everywhere is soaked atm, we have just been out this afternoon, only local...but wow it was boggy! We saw a hare and a Jay too! Kat in particular, loved the fossil and furr club moss, brilliant! Really lovely, what a great place. Rosey-lee 🤭🤗 poor poor mr buzzard, totally agree a very underrated bird and yea farmers, gamekeeper are to quick to point the finger of blame, if only they understood a little more if what and where they eat ❤☕👍 Thanks for this, sneaky little shot at the end too! catch you soon, Ceri and Kat 🤗❤☕🧭
My dear old mum always called a brew a 'cup o Rosie' 🙂! I should explain the club moss name too. When editing I thought my accent may make the name appear to be 'fur'. It's meant to be 'fir', as it looks like a mini conifer tree I think. I'll talk posher next time 😄! Unfortunately there is a fair bit of illegal wildlife persecution on our northern moors. The mountain hares are usually fairly common but I haven't seen one this winter. I found out why subsequently.....someone had been observed 'coursing' them and the police were called. Very frustrating. Thanks for the lovely comments and I hope you are both well, Chris 👍
Just recently came across your channel whilst trawling TH-cam while I recover from this horrible covid. Extremely impressed, love the fact you know so much about the area you frequent. The older I get the more interesting I find it all, geology etc. Be interested in hearing about the kit you use, pack and tent. Looks a nice lightweight setup. Anyway carry on with the great videos take care and stay safe.
Thank you for those extremely kind words. I'm sorry you are suffering with this dreadful virus and hope you feel better soon. It's also good to know that you appreciate some of my input on the wildlife, geology, etc. I do wonder if I go over the top sometimes. A couple of people have asked me about my kit so I'll go into that when we are allowed out wildcamping again. Best wishes, Chris
Nice video Chris. Must be great to have that local? I’m hoping to walk the Pennine Way this year so I can take in places such as this. A serious bit of camera kit by the way. I bet you can pick up a planet or two with that zoom lens 😁
I am fortunate really to be able to walk to the northernmost moors of the Peak District. You will love the PW. I did the Coast to Coast in 1989 and the PW the year after. Both were great but the PW was the best for me. We had two consecutive heatwave summers those years too. The camera set up is pretty beastly. I'll occasionally take it wild-camping with me if there is the chance of something decent to photograph and there are no killer climbs! ATB, Chris
Hi. Just subscribed to your channel, and amazed to see similar scenes to some I'v filmed on our Wessenden Valley. Went up as far as Swellands Reservoir then Black Moss and back down into Marsden on route of the second Turnpike road. As this film has not yet been uploaded, its in the pipeline for the future. Great filming and narration in your presentation and much enjoyed.
Thank you for such nice feedback. I'm still a bit uncomfortable in front of the camera! I love Wessenden and it can get quite busy nowadays when the weather is nice. I'll look out for your next film.
@@ChrisJB No need to feel uncomfortable talking to camera. You have a very natural pleasant manner. I still find it hard talking on camera so leave most of it to Michael with his knowledge on local areas and geological topics.
Hello Chris, we could see you have been trying to comment on our local walk video....YT says no! We appreciate as always you taking the time to watch and battle the YT comment section. We have been so lucky to have had our eyes opened by our local area and surrounding villages, so many with amazing churches too! We have just been out again today, spoiler alert there was a church!
