    Yeap not evident to imagine how old is this place . Like the idea of the Roman era . Greetings

      i discovered last night that the path I was filming on was an iron age pathway and definitely a later roman road that went right past it

    Love it, what a mystery

    Really really interesting. Could it have been used many times over the years? The fact it has a moat makes it interesting. If it was a meeting place, surely it wouldn't have a moat. Great place and loved seeing your dogs in the Moat. Love a good mystery like this

      @Traveler13  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Ye that's a point, why have a moat, and yes I think it was used in the bronze age as the ancient pathway the Portway goes right past it, literally where I was walking and filming, was also a later roman road, a bit of a coincident, hey, might have just been a meeting or stopping point back then but must of been something, the dogs loved it, not often you can let em off with other dog walkers about but was very quiet there

      just a though, that boundary stone could have more significance if its on an iron age/Roman track?

      @@Traveler13 the water for the moat, where does it come from?

      @@Traveler13 yes indeed, on a ancient track, possible way marker stone or boundary marker?

      @@openmindedwonderer just collects i think, nothing obvious filling it, might be a dranage ditch in the hedge row behind it but not sure

    Fascinating place and i am inclined to agree that a mott would make sense and the track way could be a clue to its location and possible meeting place before 1066 I saw your correction on 3rd popped in I would not have know Looks like the dogs were having great fun and the birds were singing Thank you for sharing🤗👍

      Yes and the Roman watchtower thing makes sense as well, that ancient trackway goes through Long Eaton I think where I live and I knew nothing about it, something else to look at ;-), I didn't play music in the background due to the birds, natures music.
      glad you enjoyed it

      @@miutubemindfulmoments8287 I have never read it but have seen it mentioned sometime or another, just googled it to see if I can get it, Tony Robinson did a series for channel 4 on the Portway and others so will have a look at that too

      @@Traveler13 even through the laptop that I was watching it on it just felt magical and full of possibilities. Think of the ancient people who could have walked that track and the people who could have perhaps travelled from far away (such as the Vikings) with that boundary stone perhaps? Who knows but I love imagining who could have been around at these places and I loved the sound of the birds and as you say freedom.

    They do say they built some motte and baileys on barrow mounds.. that path from chester to derby.. wonder if that's the straight road that goes from minninglow to gibb hill arbor low.. that is undoubtedly... ok arguably a straight prehistoric path.. they lead from barrow hill to barrow hill.

      Its a consideration being as its on the track from was it mam tor and it does pass so many ancient monuments pluss the romans adapted it as they did
