Your PE teacher is doing the best they can to give you the physical EDUCATION you need to meet standards and be a successful healthy person, there are a lot of skill modifications you can do in your own house to be active and learn activities like this. In Malaysia, badminton is a sport that acts as a bridge between the three main races in Malaysia, the Malays, Chinese and Indians. Everyone plays it, and everyone knows how to play it. The guy in this video who lost(the guy wearing the yellow shirt), Lee Chong Wei, is a God in Malaysia. He lost three Olympic badminton finals in a row, but people here still adore him. I can safely say that he did more to unite the people of Malaysia than any politician has in the last 20-30 years.
Thanks for the vid. I've been playing badminton ever since I was a kid, but always at home and was never in any competitions. I was always the best in class in school (because I played so much), but for some reason I never thought I could actually play it "serious"... probably for the lack of playing in my town as well. Now when our university apparently has badminton competitions I've started to reconsider that, but I don't know the rules at all. I was fearing it'd be too difficult to learn, but this actually seems doable. So yeah, thanks!
I play badminton with my family but we just bump it around because we do not know the rules but I do now so thanks a lot for explaining them it is a lot like the tennis rules, and we know the tennis rules so it should help a lot! Thanks for this video!
Won a number of tournaments in my school and college days...but haven't played in years. Started playing after about 12 years and this is an excellent refresher. Thanks.
I am watching this to familiarize myself with this sport. I have to play it in PE and get really anxious since I don’t play sports so I’m not good. I figure watching this will help me understand better. And hopefully, do better. [edit after watching] I can’t enjoy it until I stop stressing and getting anxiety over it so this will be helpful! I understand WAY better now! I will try my best thank you!
Excellent job explaining the rules in less than 5 minutes. I have not played badminton for several years and found the tutorial very helpful. Much appreciated. 🙏🏻
Good God, is it really called a "shuttlecock?" That's the best name for a ball I've heard yet - even better than "sliotar." I've only ever heard it called a "birdie" - is this because I'm American and we have to have our own names for everything?
Stone Coggins Yes, it really is called a shuttlecock! I've only ever heard the term 'birdie' in the US, but everywhere else it's called a shuttlecock. Believe it or not, the original sport was called 'battledore and shuttlecock', but eventually changed its name to Badminton. Thanks for stopping by! :)
Ninh thank you so much for all these sports rule. They are essential to understand and meanwhile discover new sports. This morning we decided to my wife to attempt playing badminton so we rented a court and basically before starting we watched this video and well we enjoyed after it playing. Some weeks ago I watched the rules of weightlifting. Then I watched some tournaments and next week i Will start a weightlifting training cause I got into the sport. This channel needs to be cheered and preserved it helps sports overall. Thank you Ninh.
Great video as always Ninh! As many already are aware it is quite obvious that the best badminton players in the world come from Malaysia and Indonesia. Many years ago back in 1970 the men's world singles champion was from my hometown here in Calgary Alberta Canada. His name is Jamie Paulsen. I learned to play badminton using those now seemingly ancient wooden racquets. They needed to be put in a press to prevent warping. Sort of makes me feel elderly now doesn't it?😀
Wow, that's going back some! I never used the wooden ones, I used the heavy steel ones that hurt your wrist after 20 minutes. Nowadays, the rackets are so thin and light, you don't even realise it's there. Thanks man!
I just ordered a racket and birdie set for ten dollars, thought that maybe I should educate myself on the sport. I clicked this video and it turned out to be very helpful!!
Amazing video for new people playing this sport like me. I'm trying out for my school's team without any experience so hopefully I do well and this video has basically summarized how to play!

KGV KARTHIK Excellent question! There is no definitive time limit as specified in the official rulebook (9.1.1 neither side shall cause undue delay to the delivery of the service once the server and the receiver are ready for the service. On completion of the backward movement of server’s racket head, any delay in the start of the service (Law 9.2), shall be considered to be an undue delay) It's all on the discretion of the umpire. Hi Ninh. Thank you for sharing this video. It's very helpful, but I would like to suggest that you change the term "set" into "game". It's the proper term. A match in Badminton is composed of best of three (3) "games", instead of best of three (3) "sets." Thank you and all the best! :)
