This is our HTC U11 hands-on! HTC has spent the last couple of months re-inventing its approach to design. The company sort of hinted to the U Ultra being just a stepping stone into a broader result for 2017, and today we finally get the opportunity to tell you all about it.
So remember the time when HTC launched the One Max to compliment the One M7? Well don't think of the HTC U11 as a compliment to the U Ultra, as this U11 is really the company's flagship for 2017.

my htc 10 started to lag man :( , but in its defense ive droped it like 40 or 50 times , :((( , it sometimes friezes when answering a call , than i have to restart it ,... so im really afraid with the glass , dont have time to watch my phone that much

2017: We need a metal phone. Kill wireless charging just give us rugged metal phone.
They could've added dual front facing speakers with the size of the top and bottom bezels. For me, having front facing speakers compensates for the removal of the headphone jack.

The M8 was the last great HTC phone, I miss it so much. The V10 and V20 have picked up the slack for me, but I do miss Sense News Feed and the HTC Keyboard

Abject Rebel Why is everyone banging on about the DXO mark? Any photographer will tell you it means nothing. Heck, DXO are corrupt and don't even get the cameras properly.
Danei I I'm not sure why people are "banging on” about anything but if there is a ratings system that's based on opinion people are bound to disagree with them. Personally, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt since there are quite a few publications that use their rating. It just means the camera is really good. Opinions are relative anyway.

Logic suggests that one would have a better grip of the phone when "squeezing" since it is essentially holding with added pressure. And if those squeezes are controlled then it seems it would be more stable that trying to perform the task by touching the screen.

Yeah, that's true. I wonder how well the squeeze feature will work through a lightweight case that doesn't take away too much of the great looking liquid glass. If I got any of this year's flagship phones I would put a case on, since all of them are mostly glass panels now.

htc started building smartphones 20 years ago... if you trace the design language, apple actually copied some of the designs from htc phones. Then again, does it really count as copying if it is a natural progression of design?
HTC might be a pioneer in the past, but not anymore for the past 4 - 5 years. They had a very good M7, but then M8, and M9 were bad. The HTC 10 was promising, yet the decided to ditch that and go with the glossy glass design with the new U line, which is not pioneering at all. Look at the front of the U11, what is good and pioneering in that ugly as thick as bezels? Boomsound speakers are no longer front-facing, and even phones with real front-facing speakers have better looking front than this. In terms of features, the original ultra pixel camera on the M7 and M8 was crap, the 2nd screen on the U Ultra is a straight ripoff from LG V series, what pioneering in those? I admit the squeezing feature on the U11 can be useful, but is it a mind-blown feature that will win all the market attention?

I'm not impressed by the squeeze feature specially when Blackberry is giving you 52 key shortcuts. If you prefer the bigger screen why not just add some capacitive buttons on the frame?

Sharon Mathew They killed themselves with the M7 which unfortunately was a marketing bluff. Great UltraPixel camera? Well, 4,3 Megapixels that make every photo look violet. Awesome, made me get an external camera again. BoomSound-stereo-speakers? Well, crappy, quiet speakers on a space too small to accurately represent a stereo image. The display? Quite bright but not bright enough in the sun. Android and HTC Sense? More like a "will I get the next update? And when will it be?" game.
It wasn't a bad phone but it was a combination of bad, halfly-baked features mixed with Android and the user experience just didn't hold up to the competition. The HTC One M7 actually made me never buy an Android phone again because it proved me that I needed a phone to rely on, not one with the latest, most fancy features.

problem is even if HTC makes the best smartphone on the market nobody will ever notice or buy it because most people will naturally buy iphones just because its made by apple and its cool to have one even though they make the shittiest and the most boring looking phones out there so these companies will never get a chance to actually compete with the big boys.
also the Android market is dominated by samsung so this is another blow to HTC.

The same capacity in a much larger phone... and far less capacity than the S8+. We'll see what the battery benchmarks are, but HTC has never been particularly strong in this area.

The reasons why most of the people including me loved and bought HTC was due to following reasons
1) Awesome audio quality from both the headphone jack and Front facing stereo speakers.
2) Solid metal unibody build Quality.
unfortunately both of them are gone...!!!????It is the same glossy fancy looking fragile smartphone with no headphone jack...I don't see any solid reason to buy this... I am using HTC as of right now but I think my next phone won't be from HTC...

It has the highest rated camera of all time. For those who love to take pictures and video. This is the smartphone for you. Plus it comes with 64GB of storage! Wow. Plus a slot for micro SD card. And 4GB RAM. And you can customize everything from your text thread bubbles and background to the entire theme style and colors and icons. Pretty damn amazing if you ask me.

Well considering it has a Snapdragon 835 in it, there shouldn't be much of a problem with battery life. The improved efficiency on it over the Snapdragon 820 is pretty great.

Apart from the beautiful design and display, could you please tell me what is the unique reason to buy the S8?? Camera mostly unchanged, audio not as good aa htc, and a bixby dedicated button that most dont like, an awkward fingerprint scanner positioning, a 3000mah battery for that display. there are alot of drawbacks on Samsung s8 too. just because it is beautiful doesn't mean it is the best phone. Bezels are everywhere other than S8 and g6. just dont hate other phones if you love your phone...#peace..
sunny prabhakar S8 has a headphone jack. and a higher water resistance to this phone. also the s8 does have a better camera than the S7, although not as big of a change, it's there.

I'm all about the sound quality and battery life. If they're good, it's an excellent phone.
I tried the S8+, nice design, amazing screen, average battery life, awesome camera and above average sound quality(the bundled AKG headphones is a nice touch). Does it worth the price? Nah, you should wait for discounts.
I'll give the U11 a shot, see if the DXOmark score reflects the real life results.

just cuz it's not a big screen in a small form factor and has no headphone jack??! Well so does the iPhone 7 but it's still among the best selling products ! I applaud HTC for pushing forward with new features like Edge Sense and I hope this company doesn't go anywhere! With the whole world oohing n fingering themselves over bezel-less displays , I am glad that the HTC 11 stands tall to offer Solid Specs which the LG G6 can't compete with and with Edges The S8 can't even apply to themselves!

So far this looks really good. My only concern is that are the speakers great. I have HTC 10 and I love that phone. So far U11 seems like a great update but if the speakers aren't better than HTC 10 then I will skip this and wait for the next successor. Sure the lack of headphone jack is disappointing but the headphones that HTC offers have amazing sound quality plus active noise canceling.
Why not just add a programmable button instead of all this squeeze bullshit
vinnykpartiallday because HTC said that squeezing doesn't require you to change the grip on the phone. with buttons, you may have to change grips on the phone to press the button depending on the hand you are holding the phone with.

Other than the galaxy with a wrap around screen. All new phones have plateaued in terms of design...they are all the same! I wish they would stop marketing them as 'New' and just say 'face lift of previous model' and stop with the false advertising.
Who else hate's glass phones? I wouldn't be able to handle all the fingerprints. Maybe the only glass phone I could see myself owning is the G6 in that platinum color.

The specs are quite good.. even if you consider the small-ish battery. what really concerns me is their new design philosophy. the phone looks cheap from the back due to all that glossyness, the home button is too low, the bezels are a bit too thick and the squeeze feels more like a gimmick.. I feel like HTC has really fallen after the HTC 10.
So let me get it right.. when apple lost headphone jack, everybody flipped off.. and now when others do the same it's ok and really cool?

that squeeze thing to me seems a bit dumb but in general this device looks good, bezels do not look ugly (unlike some Sony devices) + it has 6 GB of RAM, that interesting blue aqua look, SD 835 and Droid 7.1.1, now we will need to see how the battery will work :)
