I live in Hangzhou as well! I came from the US and the cost of living is so much better here. I have a family and I have a similar income and we are able to do almost everything, no problem. If anyone is thinking about moving here, I say do it. Hangzhou is a very friendly place for foreigners and very easy to get around, even if you don't know Chinese.

Yes I totally agree. Before I came back to Hangzhou, I live in Mexico and often travels to the U.S..... The U.S. is beautiful but so much more expensive...

Glad China don't pay tips. Here in the US, 20% tip for just filling my cup is ridiculous. Yes you don't have to tip but if you don't, you're frowned upon and society makes you feel guilty if you don't tip. So I try to avoid eating at restaurants to boycott tipping. Unfortunately, most people want to tip. It's not like the waiters/waitresses don't get pay, they already getting pay a decent hourly wage so I don't feel having to pay an extra 20% for just filling my cup of water just once.

How do you earn 20,000 to 30,000 a month. So your income is from a job where the pay is not always the same or you have your own business where income can fluctuate? 30,000 yuan is equal to about $4,200. That's quite good even in the US. But are your numbers before or after tax? I would assume China has income tax. Here in the US, I make a little over $8,000/m, which is above average here, but after taxes, I take home only about $4,500 a month. Reason why US government has so much money... because taxes are so high and so many taxes. 37% of my pay goes to federal tax, 13% to state tax and when I buy something, I'll also pay a 8.5% sales tax. Over 50% of my income goes to just taxes, social security, welfare, etc. Here, we use annually like annual salary and hourly. But we get pay weekly or bi-weekly (most pay bi-weekly). We don't use monthly like most Asian countries do. For example, we don't say, "How much do you make per month?" We say, "How much is your salary?" (salary implies annually) or "How much do you get pay per hour?"

Hangzhou is also a first-tier city, so of course, everything is going to be costlier.
But most people want to live in the city because that's where the people are, and with people, there are employment opportunities.
It is definitely cheaper to live in the remote areas, far away from any metropolis.
But there will be fewer people, and with fewer people, fewer employment opportunities. And living there means you have to do a lot of things yourself because there will be fewer municipal services.

As of 10/19/2024 2000 Yuan is $281.63 U.S. Dollars. 5000 Yuan is $704.08 U.S. dollars. Not bad for rent.

This is not accurate. Rent in Hangzhou is 2000-8000 outside the city, and city centre is 5000-10000.

I believe that the cost of living has gone up quite a bit here in the states!! Housing Food Cars Etc has definitely made it tough on the younger generation!! So it's a Pleasure to see that this city 🌆 is a bit affordable depending on a person's status or life style!! Thanks for Sharing this video with us!!🧡🤍🎇🤍🧡

lived in Shanghai for 10 years. Now, take all the figures from this video (except transportation) and multiply by 4: that's Shanghai for you. The funny thing is that except for the very central part of the city, Shanghai looks like pretty much like Hangzhou. Yet prices do not differ much between the city center, and all those hangzhou-like areas.
Wait, how did I end up here and why am I even commenting?

the reality of it all is with the real estate crash and all the unemployed people in china, you can probably rent a place for less than 1000 yuan a month now that used to be 2000 yuan. if you bargain, you can probably get that 2000 yuan down to 500 yuan a month. I read online that many people who used to make double digit wages are down to 2000 to 3000 yuan a month now. sad but true.
