It was a bittersweet ending, cause I still feel like Light didn't lose completely. The idea of "Kira" will always be there and you can't kill an idea, that was the speech he gave to Near, that he can't kill him.
Light got too sloppy and cocky as well. He should not have killed Takada until the last moment since she was his only means of communication with Mikami

After this Light should of said to him: "Look what you did was good, but next time you do something without asking me, I kill you!". Second time Mikami says, that Kira will from now on also kil those who dont do anything with their lifes and are lazy. To this Light says: "Too soon Mikami!", witch yet again implies that Mikami did something without Light knowing about it. All those things, were build ups for the ending, they did that on purpose. Its absolutely in Mikamis character and Light not telling him to stop after the first time, shows how cocky he got, believing his "army" is perfect." -my good looking self.

I’ve mentioned this in comment replies, but to spread awareness for those that haven’t read the manga, there is something called the Matsuda Theory. It states that Near may have “cheated” by writing down Mikami’s name in the notebook. This would ensure Mikami would show up there with the fake through controlling his actions. It’s bizarre that methodical Mikami wouldn’t check the real notebook for discrepancies, test its authenticity beforehand, or bring pieces of the note he may have stashed away for the occasion. Ohba, the author, even has mentioned in an interview that Near cheats and that is how he’s the “smartest” character. Also, I know that Mikami died via suicide in the anime to cause a distraction for Light, but in the manga he was captured alive and mysteriously died in prison 10 days later.

Death Note - symbolism is strong there. The stairs where Light died, his corpse in the middle of the stairs is a symbol that he cant go to heaven or to hell - i know many will tell there is no heaven/hell in this Death Note universe but still the symbol is great at the end :)

When the episode ends they show Ryuk as God,Then the evening night sky as the dark and then the moon! Which represents Light Yagami

That's what that rule about "all humans go to Nothingness" is meant to reveal: Ryuk was deliberately messing with Light by telling him that humans who use the Death Note go to neither Heaven nor Hell. No human does. In the end, Light suffered the fate of all his victims. Nothing better and nothing worse.
Suzy really let her hatred of Light cloud her judgment, but fair enough, everyone has their views. I suppose it makes sense since the author goes out of their way to make Light unlikable rather than make it a battle of morals and philosophy.
How is her judgement clouded? Suzy's opinion of Light is completely reasonable and any moral person ought to condemn his actions. Light's journey is fun to watch, and Suzy's opinion of Light obviously didn't detract from her ability to enjoy the show. But that's because she trusted that Light would get his comeuppance in the end. He's a mass murderer and he shouldn't be forgiven just because he's likable.

at the end it was about his pride ,and notebook is evil ,but crime reduced by 70%, about a 600-800k per year ppl being murdered , not talking about other crimes , killing even a 10000 ppl per year , it is actually made earth safer.
light yagami made a change in the world, but only to a certain extent, since light's mentality was not correct and as they say "every mortal who uses the power of death note will suffer the consequences of madness and a bad ending "And well, light was no exception, and he had to kill innocents for his benefit not for the rest, that makes him a simple murderer, a fool who believed himself to be a God and the greatest terror of humans. I don't know about you but I wouldn't feel good knowing that at any moment someone who doesn't like me will write my name on the internet and live with the fear of being the next.
To be honest neither L Nor Near and Mello could have changed or made a better world. Crimes would have gone the way they were. I'm not saying Kira is justice but he brought balance to the society and brought awareness that there is always someone who will judge.

First, on the episode, what Mello's actions left clear is confirming the use of scrapes from the notebook, which led Near to suspect of Mikami's notebook being genuine. The fact that they both needed to work apart yet together is part of Ohba's poetry in my opinion. By wanting to use the notebook, L sealed his fate. He was going to be like Kira in that regard, by testing the Death Note's power, and in a sense making the detective act like a criminal. So he died. But then, here Near was the detective, and Mello was the criminal that did the dirty work. And ironically enough, victory would not have been achieved without Mello. Damn, Tsugumi Ohba... I don't care the story was short lived, he is one author I can say with all my heart I AM A FAN! And like Mello, this story would not have been without Takeshi Obata's beautiful art. Kudos to them! Again, Suzy if you put Bakuman, you got me VIP. And I hope we can see some Platinum End anime in the future. Not hoping to be mainstream, but it will definitely be (in Ryuk's voice) interesting.
It’s unlikely that Near was the clean detective himself as there’s a lot of evidence to suggest that he wrote Mikami’s name in the notebook to control his actions. This theory is mentioned at the end of the manga.

@@Sociobid i always thought near was l if you removed all the parts of his personality that were similar to l and mello was light if you removed all the parts of his personality that were similar to l. both absolute geniuses but light tended to take bigger riska and act faster than l. l generally i feel had better moves but he waited to use them and ended up just getting worn down by light's pace. mello basically is light with no patience or self control and near is l but even more methodical and viewed the whole situation even more as a game. l always seemed to consider the stakes and the consequences as real human costs. near didn't but he still tried to minimize them because excessive deaths would weaken his overall victory
I think when he was faced with his former self right before his death, all the regret overwhelmed him, and he truly realized what he had done. In spite of what he had done, I believe he had remorse for what he did in the end.
It’s so crazy that light is written in such a good way that he can be literally the largest and most prolific mass murderer in the history of the world and also the person who changed the world into a place where 70% of crime was eliminated. He’s written to be the ultimate villain that thinks he’s the hero. It makes sense that his character is both loved and hated at the same time by almost everyone who watches the show. Even by the end, they do such a good job of playing on lights character. Showing the pain in his face and voice at his loss. Speaking out on all the people he’s wronged and wishing for some of them to save him in his most vulnerable moment despite all he’s done. This ending, along with everything laid before it, is why it’s one of the most impactful shows you can watch period. TL;DR: This show is c o o l. I like the main guy, but he kinda sucks. So I’m glad he’s dead but not at the same time :P
The Anime itself was also incredible with the wonderfully written characters and the soundtracks in the background and of course the voice acting well anyways it is truly incredible

The thing is people have to support the ideas of L and his successors because if Light would have won, some people would have misunderstood light's ideas and became vigilante. It is mentioned in the anime that over 70% of the crime has stopped due to Kira, so he saved MUCH more people than he actually killed. And L and his successors were just going by the law and calling him a murderer. Light did mention that he knew that killing people was wrong, but he just wanted to create a world where people would be so threatened to even thinking about commiting a crime. Sure he is shown as cocky, but keep this in mind, there was no good or evil character in this anime as mentioned by the creators of this anime. Finally, it was only because of a misunderstanding that Light lost. So, the creators had to bring luck in this episode to justify Light's defeat. Otherwise, he would have definitely won. As Light says - Near was no way near L.
I still preferred how light died in the manga. In the anime they kinda "glorified" it with him escaping and flashbacks and stuff. I think of it as light's vision of how he would've preferred to die because he thinks of himself as a god. Whereas in the manga ryuk writes his name right there and then after he gets shot. Light dies in a puddle of water which I feels humanizes him. Regardless of what he did and why he did it he dies a very human (and slightly pathetic) death.
Dude, he was the ONLY victim of the Death Note to know about his death in advance. Talk about poetic justice. Really, the ending from the anime doesn't minimally compare to the masterpiece that is the manga, including all the extended talks they were supposed to have in this episode but were cut for time. And also, the big reveal regarding Mu and Ryuk's bluff that makes Light completely snap.

I always enjoy more kira's team reactors, because l's team always is "oh yes die light" like being happy with his death, even like laughing but that is showing everyone that you have kira's mentality: "bad people have to die", but you are the exeption, because you are not happy that he died, you are just happy that justice is done, and that is the right mentality; I'm personally team kira, but I was happy that justice prevailed. Also you can see that this ended with no one "living happily ever after" because: Aizawa, Matsuda, Mogi and the other policemen lost their chief and their friends, like Uchita and Light. Near and Mello lost their mentor, and almost father figure: L. L lost Watari, his father, who took him to the orphanage and raised him. Misa lost Light, the love of her life. Light's family lost Light and Soichiro, Light's father. and Light, well he lost everything, starting from the father, and in the end he lost his "perfect world". The only one who ended happy was ryuk. (sorry if i misspelled)
Nope, not at all, in the manga it is clear that all humans when they die, whether good or bad, go to nothing. Even those in the animation house recommended the author change the end of the manga, leaving some bases for Light to be a Shinigami in some sequel. The author was very clear in leaving his final ideas, equal to those of the manga. In the end, after he dies, there's nothing and that's it.
It is said when misa waa shown on the bridge at the end, she commited suicide after hearing of lights death (idk if thats confirmed) but its sad.. The fact all she wanted to do was love and be useful to light. And the years she had gotten from rem after she was saved.. She could of lived for the longest time.
Ryuk also foreshadowed of exactly what would happen from the very first episode. “You will feel the same fear and pain, known only to humans who’ve used the notebook and when it’s your time to die, it will fall on me to write your name in my Death Note.”
Even the song The world says it (taking apart the fact that Light became an egomaniac at the end) "i made a trade with darkness and heaven its not my destiny now, why? Am I a broken messiah?" or clearer Light said "even if it means sacrifice my mind and soul, it worths... world its rotten..." he didnt meant to the fact that the owners of a DN will not go to Hell or Heaven, he meant what actually happend, corrupting himself, falling into the darkness, killing and judge for cleaning the world. Its not clearly "good" killing or harming people, but its worst let the world full of killers, rapers, psycos, abusers... "then you'll become the only bad person" well yeah, thats the sacrifice. In other words, there's another example, take Punisher, (OH YOU MUST WATCH THAT SERIES ITS AMAZYNG FROM NETFLIX OBVIOUSLY, ALMOST AS AMAZYNG AS THIS), with the only exception hes not an expert of manipulation and he doesnt become an egomaniac but has a strongly post trauma transtorn, he does EXACTLY the same. Cleanning the world. And clearly, most people love him.

There is no way to change the world with the deathnote in a 'right way'. Light had guts to go in the 'wrong and only way' willingly. The moment he found the deathnote, he won and lost too.
Your hate for Light, I completely understand it but there’s a lot of things you don’t really take into consideration when it comes to his character. He states that he was the only one able to continue being Kira even when the odds were against him, he could of easily ran away after L’s death since he was clear from suspicion and had no real reason to be the new L but he devoted himself to being the one with the weight of killing criminals and endure it until his time was up. He accepted being one of the few horrible people in the world from the time he decided to use the deathnote for the first time to when he died. Light’s ideology was never wrong throughout the series, it’s his methods and his transformation as a human being that was concerning and evil to the viewer. Don’t forget he stopped over 70% of all crime rates GLOBALLY, imagine how much better our wold would be if that happened
So I know that towards the end you’re meant to root against Light; however I wasn’t satisfied with how Near won. It makes sense that Mikami was so in tune with what Light wanted that he even thought to take care of Takada, but in the end Light didn’t lose because of himself. It was a mistake made by a third party and that just didn’t sit well with me. L actually came close to solving the case with his incredible detective skills while Near got kinda lucky Mikami acted on his own 1 time.
I thought the same thing but arguably the situation that made Mikami make his mistake was deliberately done by Mello. In that way it was both Near and Mello who outsmarted light. It's kind of not quite their victory but Light set up the game including handing off the notebook to a third party (Mikami) because he knew he would act according to his will without instruction. Unfortunately that backfired because they were too in sync and Light acted without considering Mikami would act at the same time despite knowing he thinks similarly to Light. Light can't complain it was unfair since he set up the game and the rules but was undone by his own plan.
Mikame being in tune with light was so helpful to light from the beginning and he wasn't wrong to kill takada because light should have been in a situation where he can't kill her but the task force is just too stupid. It is actually light's mistake that he didn't expect mikame to kill takada

@@rikudoubapeck This. It's explicitly stated, Near says only the two of them working together managed to win, thanks to Mello's sacrifice (who knew what was coming). Also, Near was still incredibly ingenious to realize Light was Kira, putting aside the whole burden of "proving it" to do things like L would've wanted. Anyhow, I felt like Suzy, desperately waiting for Kira to be caught, this episode was so cathartic 😂
Yea, but in a sense, Light only beat L because of a third party, too. It kind of makes sense. I think the idea is that two geniuses will always be in a stalemate until a third party can shake things up.

Matsuda is a GOAT! He's been my fave character since the first time we met him. And I liked him even more after this finale! I love how he believed in Light up to the end and then was the one to take him down! That's honestly my favorite scene in the series. I do recommend the two Japanese live-action movies and the Japanese live-action mini-series. The mini-series is my personal favorite live-action adaptation of Death Note. But all three are really good, imo. Also, check out the musical, which can be found on TH-cam. I personally think the Netflix movie is a waste of time, but that's just my opinion. I loved your reactions to Death Note. It's my favorite anime of all-time and I'm really glad you liked it!
Genuinely enjoyed this. I kind of fall into a camp where I don't have any subscription services so I spend my time watching reactions of stuff that I've watched in the past and loved. This is one of my favorites. Truly up there with Breaking Bad and above Game of Thrones I just love it. Can't believe how quick you caught on to some of the stuff I missed until 2nd or 3rd thanks for doing this
Just imagine if Light had also planned for Near to find out about the real notebook and that during all this time Mikami had kept a page of the death note... Light you made one mistake and it was too much mistake.

Róbert Almádi so the government judging people is ok but light judging is not? Light managed to stop all wars and reduce crime by 80% in the entire world. He only killed criminals or people who were after him. Light produced way better results than any government ever could .
the most important stat from that show is that the global murder rates went down by 10% during kiras rain. so he spared a lot of lives as well. he saved many more lifes than he took, actually. so it is not as black or white in the show as you seem to think it is. Film Theorists have a video that gives reasonable numbers both ways.

I’ve mentioned this in comment replies, but to spread awareness for those that haven’t read the manga, there is something called the Matsuda Theory. It states that Near may have “cheated” by writing down Mikami’s name in the notebook. This would ensure Mikami would show up there with the fake through controlling his actions. It’s bizarre that methodical Mikami wouldn’t check the real notebook for discrepancies, test its authenticity beforehand, or bring pieces of the note he may have stashed away for the occasion. Ohba, the author, even has mentioned in an interview that Near cheats and that is how he’s the “smartest” character. Also, I know that Mikami died via suicide in the anime to cause a distraction for Light, but in the manga he was captured alive and mysteriously died in prison 10 days later.

Death Note - symbolism is strong there. The stairs where Light died, his corpse in the middle of the stairs is a symbol that he cant go to heaven or to hell - i know many will tell there is no heaven/hell in this Death Note universe but still the symbol is great at the end :)

Light's journey is fun to watch, and Suzy's opinion of Light obviously didn't detract from her ability to enjoy the show. But that's because she trusted that Light would get his comeuppance in the end. He's a mass murderer and he shouldn't be forgiven just because he's likable.

People say that L was planning to adopt Near and Mello when the Kira case was solved...
at the end it was about his pride ,and notebook is evil ,but crime reduced by 70%, about a 600-800k per year ppl being murdered , not talking about other crimes , killing even a 10000 ppl per year , it is actually made earth safer.
light yagami made a change in the world, but only to a certain extent, since light's mentality was not correct and as they say "every mortal who uses the power of death note will suffer the consequences of madness and a bad ending "And well, light was no exception, and he had to kill innocents for his benefit not for the rest, that makes him a simple murderer, a fool who believed himself to be a God and the greatest terror of humans.
I don't know about you but I wouldn't feel good knowing that at any moment someone who doesn't like me will write my name on the internet and live with the fear of being the next.
To be honest neither L Nor Near and Mello could have changed or made a better world. Crimes would have gone the way they were. I'm not saying Kira is justice but he brought balance to the society and brought awareness that there is always someone who will judge.

First, on the episode, what Mello's actions left clear is confirming the use of scrapes from the notebook, which led Near to suspect of Mikami's notebook being genuine. The fact that they both needed to work apart yet together is part of Ohba's poetry in my opinion. By wanting to use the notebook, L sealed his fate. He was going to be like Kira in that regard, by testing the Death Note's power, and in a sense making the detective act like a criminal. So he died.
But then, here Near was the detective, and Mello was the criminal that did the dirty work. And ironically enough, victory would not have been achieved without Mello. Damn, Tsugumi Ohba... I don't care the story was short lived, he is one author I can say with all my heart I AM A FAN! And like Mello, this story would not have been without Takeshi Obata's beautiful art. Kudos to them! Again, Suzy if you put Bakuman, you got me VIP. And I hope we can see some Platinum End anime in the future. Not hoping to be mainstream, but it will definitely be (in Ryuk's voice) interesting.
It’s unlikely that Near was the clean detective himself as there’s a lot of evidence to suggest that he wrote Mikami’s name in the notebook to control his actions. This theory is mentioned at the end of the manga.

@@Sociobid i always thought near was l if you removed all the parts of his personality that were similar to l and mello was light if you removed all the parts of his personality that were similar to l. both absolute geniuses but light tended to take bigger riska and act faster than l. l generally i feel had better moves but he waited to use them and ended up just getting worn down by light's pace. mello basically is light with no patience or self control and near is l but even more methodical and viewed the whole situation even more as a game. l always seemed to consider the stakes and the consequences as real human costs. near didn't but he still tried to minimize them because excessive deaths would weaken his overall victory
I think when he was faced with his former self right before his death, all the regret overwhelmed him, and he truly realized what he had done. In spite of what he had done, I believe he had remorse for what he did in the end.

It’s so crazy that light is written in such a good way that he can be literally the largest and most prolific mass murderer in the history of the world and also the person who changed the world into a place where 70% of crime was eliminated. He’s written to be the ultimate villain that thinks he’s the hero.
It makes sense that his character is both loved and hated at the same time by almost everyone who watches the show.
Even by the end, they do such a good job of playing on lights character. Showing the pain in his face and voice at his loss. Speaking out on all the people he’s wronged and wishing for some of them to save him in his most vulnerable moment despite all he’s done.
This ending, along with everything laid before it, is why it’s one of the most impactful shows you can watch period.
TL;DR: This show is c o o l. I like the main guy, but he kinda sucks. So I’m glad he’s dead but not at the same time :P
The Anime itself was also incredible with the wonderfully written characters and the soundtracks in the background and of course the voice acting well anyways it is truly incredible

The thing is people have to support the ideas of L and his successors because if Light would have won, some people would have misunderstood light's ideas and became vigilante. It is mentioned in the anime that over 70% of the crime has stopped due to Kira, so he saved MUCH more people than he actually killed. And L and his successors were just going by the law and calling him a murderer. Light did mention that he knew that killing people was wrong, but he just wanted to create a world where people would be so threatened to even thinking about commiting a crime. Sure he is shown as cocky, but keep this in mind, there was no good or evil character in this anime as mentioned by the creators of this anime.
Finally, it was only because of a misunderstanding that Light lost. So, the creators had to bring luck in this episode to justify Light's defeat. Otherwise, he would have definitely won. As Light says - Near was no way near L.

I still preferred how light died in the manga. In the anime they kinda "glorified" it with him escaping and flashbacks and stuff. I think of it as light's vision of how he would've preferred to die because he thinks of himself as a god.
Whereas in the manga ryuk writes his name right there and then after he gets shot. Light dies in a puddle of water which I feels humanizes him. Regardless of what he did and why he did it he dies a very human (and slightly pathetic) death.
Dude, he was the ONLY victim of the Death Note to know about his death in advance. Talk about poetic justice. Really, the ending from the anime doesn't minimally compare to the masterpiece that is the manga, including all the extended talks they were supposed to have in this episode but were cut for time. And also, the big reveal regarding Mu and Ryuk's bluff that makes Light completely snap.

I always enjoy more kira's team reactors, because l's team always is "oh yes die light" like being happy with his death, even like laughing but that is showing everyone that you have kira's mentality: "bad people have to die", but you are the exeption, because you are not happy that he died, you are just happy that justice is done, and that is the right mentality; I'm personally team kira, but I was happy that justice prevailed.
Also you can see that this ended with no one "living happily ever after" because:
Aizawa, Matsuda, Mogi and the other policemen lost their chief and their friends, like Uchita and Light.
Near and Mello lost their mentor, and almost father figure: L.
L lost Watari, his father, who took him to the orphanage and raised him.
Misa lost Light, the love of her life.
Light's family lost Light and Soichiro, Light's father.
and Light, well he lost everything, starting from the father, and in the end he lost his "perfect world".
The only one who ended happy was ryuk.

Nope, not at all, in the manga it is clear that all humans when they die, whether good or bad, go to nothing.
Even those in the animation house recommended the author change the end of the manga, leaving some bases for Light to be a Shinigami in some sequel.
The author was very clear in leaving his final ideas, equal to those of the manga. In the end, after he dies, there's nothing and that's it.

Your hate for Light, I completely understand it but there’s a lot of things you don’t really take into consideration when it comes to his character. He states that he was the only one able to continue being Kira even when the odds were against him, he could of easily ran away after L’s death since he was clear from suspicion and had no real reason to be the new L but he devoted himself to being the one with the weight of killing criminals and endure it until his time was up. He accepted being one of the few horrible people in the world from the time he decided to use the deathnote for the first time to when he died. Light’s ideology was never wrong throughout the series, it’s his methods and his transformation as a human being that was concerning and evil to the viewer. Don’t forget he stopped over 70% of all crime rates GLOBALLY, imagine how much better our wold would be if that happened

So I know that towards the end you’re meant to root against Light; however I wasn’t satisfied with how Near won. It makes sense that Mikami was so in tune with what Light wanted that he even thought to take care of Takada, but in the end Light didn’t lose because of himself. It was a mistake made by a third party and that just didn’t sit well with me. L actually came close to solving the case with his incredible detective skills while Near got kinda lucky Mikami acted on his own 1 time.
I thought the same thing but arguably the situation that made Mikami make his mistake was deliberately done by Mello. In that way it was both Near and Mello who outsmarted light. It's kind of not quite their victory but Light set up the game including handing off the notebook to a third party (Mikami) because he knew he would act according to his will without instruction. Unfortunately that backfired because they were too in sync and Light acted without considering Mikami would act at the same time despite knowing he thinks similarly to Light. Light can't complain it was unfair since he set up the game and the rules but was undone by his own plan.
Mikame being in tune with light was so helpful to light from the beginning and he wasn't wrong to kill takada because light should have been in a situation where he can't kill her but the task force is just too stupid. It is actually light's mistake that he didn't expect mikame to kill takada

@@rikudoubapeck This. It's explicitly stated, Near says only the two of them working together managed to win, thanks to Mello's sacrifice (who knew what was coming). Also, Near was still incredibly ingenious to realize Light was Kira, putting aside the whole burden of "proving it" to do things like L would've wanted.
Anyhow, I felt like Suzy, desperately waiting for Kira to be caught, this episode was so cathartic 😂

Matsuda is a GOAT! He's been my fave character since the first time we met him. And I liked him even more after this finale! I love how he believed in Light up to the end and then was the one to take him down! That's honestly my favorite scene in the series.
I do recommend the two Japanese live-action movies and the Japanese live-action mini-series. The mini-series is my personal favorite live-action adaptation of Death Note. But all three are really good, imo. Also, check out the musical, which can be found on TH-cam. I personally think the Netflix movie is a waste of time, but that's just my opinion.

the most important stat from that show is that the global murder rates went down by 10% during kiras rain. so he spared a lot of lives as well. he saved many more lifes than he took, actually. so it is not as black or white in the show as you seem to think it is. Film Theorists have a video that gives reasonable numbers both ways.
