Any updates on World Oyama Karate? Or can we get like a history lesson on the split there? That seems to be like the original big split because it wasn’t over philosophy or techniques but it seem to be like political
Also what do you think of the Kyokushinkai guys who fight in Karate Combat? They are not fairing to well under that ruleset. What seems to be the missing piece for them to be successful against those point fighters?
Open weight tournaments always favor heavier fighters, unless the draw is set up differently for a favorite. There are exceptions, but for the most part open weight is easier for heavier fighters. I’ve always thought weight category tournaments were much more taxing on heavyweight and super heavy than the lighter fighters. They are fighting physically stronger opponents each round, as opposed to open weight where it could be David vs. Goliath.
Sometimes and in some regions, but as we said on the show many times the best fighters will simply skip the weight tournaments all together. Providing easy runs for those who bother. Thanks so much for listening and your comment. - Path
