  • We've tested many puukko's... we've tested many military knives... yet we have never tried a military Puukko Knife! meet the Rokka Korpisoturi. A knife made to be both good at bushcraft and tactical purposes. While the materials used scream modern it actually uses a lot of traditional things like a double heat treat where the spine is around 50 HRC and the edge around 63 HRC... traditional Puukko design and a true high scandi grind! let me give you a spoiler.... this knife is bloody amazing!

    I'm very surprised to have heard a category for the knife's handle being cold to the hand.
    As a person who routinely hunts during the winter , the importance of a knife's handle not robbing warmth from the hand (even through gloves ) cannot be overstated .
    Excellent

      @lonewandererbushcraftwildc6822 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree any exposed steel in the handle & you will definitely feel it in the cold as steel really does absorb alot of heat from the body making it very cold to touch

    Is it just me? The audio at the end of the video seems to be overlapping? Great knife, I bought the black version, the only drawback that can happen is that after a long period of use the material of the handle can cause the knife to loosen at the point of contact? Maybe due to aging? it does happen, to a small number of customers, but not to all.

    I remember the days you guys got super excited about the benchmade puukko. Seeing new knives like this one and the BPS knives beeing so good and so cheap is crazy. Mostly crazy that such an old tool is still being innovated so much. Also perfectly classic DBK video, well done!

      I have the 80crv2 and the N690 and what they did with the N690 is crazy as well. 60 Hrc but ground to a scandi with only a microbevel and it even holds up cutting Bamboo without microchips, haven't tested a knife with that acute angle in this steel that was able to achieve this. I think they make very good knives.

I think you guys might like it and I’d like to see you guys do your regular comprehensive testing. You guys push way further than I do when testing the knives. I think Mickie might really like the Fox River Ext-1, it has the Gunny handle with a more drop point blade, I got mine is S45VN but they just released one in Magnacut and it has more of a high scandivex or sabervex grind. BTW; if you prefer a classic leather sheath, I can tell the Marttiini Timberjack's (24€) sheath fits perfectly on the Rokka knife. Also, the alternative original alternative kydex sheath by Rokka themselves (you can get it from Lamnia) is a good alternative to the original Kareline sheath. They all have their pros and cons, the alternatives are good for dangling from the belt. The Kareline sheath is at its best when attached to tactical gear, but a little high mount for belt use.

Also the Metal tang and the rubber handle have opened a little forcing wet or water into the handle. 2 things to note from a long term user! But other than that it's a fucking winner! I also bought the stainless Bohler steel version and it chipped very easily on wood use day 1 but I regrind it on the Ken onion and its better than it was brand new! Man I been hoping you would test this knife for a year now, and here we are. I knew you would love it. I know they recently released one in N690 also, but for me N690 isn't as interesting as it's very picky on heat treatment (especially on a bushcraft knife). I'm sure most us have had N690 knifes that just is pure garbage, to shockingly good (like on Extrema Ratio knives). But for me personally I don't think I have had a 80CrV2 knife that was "bad". But I'm curious to see how Rokka did with the N690 as they seem to really have the heat treatment part down. I also really like their mix between modern and traditional style and materials.

      I wish someone would review the N690 Rokka. I'm not sure that it's double heat treated like the 80CrV2 version.

      Hey guys, I own both the 80CrV2 and the N690 Rokka and I can say that the heat treatment is the best I have seen yet on an N690 Blade! It has the same grind on both knives, the rhombic scandi with a barely visible microbevel. The N690 is not hardened differentially like the 80crv2 but has an hrc of 60 throughout. Both excell in cutting wood, as they should. I even tested both blades on bamboo and they didn't receive microchips, which isn't unusual for 80crv2 but this was the first knife in N690 that has held up to this test when ground to such an acute angle.
      So yes, I think they absolutely nailed the heat treat on my N690. I really would love this knife to also be available in Magnacut and see what they could get out of this Steel.

      @@TheAnonymousSwordThanks for sharing this! Exactly the kind of info I'm after! I love that you did some edge stability testing looking for microchipping on hard material like bamboo. I was worried that the N690 wouldn't be as tough as the 80CrV2 (and it isn't from a metallurgical and materials standpoint) but it sounds tough enough for the intended uses and the extra benefit of being stainless is welcome.

      @@TheAnonymousSwordI meant to also say that I'm further glad you shared this as I've been seeing more and more N690 being used and I've been curious as to its performance. It seems to basically be 440c with some additional cobalt, nothing too crazy. Heat treat is everything of course. And I too would love to see this knife in magnacut with an exceptional heat treat! That would be amazing!

    i like mine, got one of the earlier ones, found it to be scary sharp out of the box.
    the new ones don't come with that nice m05 pouch?

      This coyote coloured Kareline sheath is the first model that came out. If DBK got their Rokka from Varusteleka, they are actually from the earlier production runs, I think. Lamnia is the store where you can get the other variants, too, like the M05.

    G'day Guys, great knife, I'm so surprised there's not more, bushcraft designs in particular, with a "high" scandi grind. Price; fair enough, cant complain. Though, a couple of points if I may;
    Looks a good steel choice, especially with the dual HT, but certainly not ideal for my climate i.e. I expect its not gonna get on too well with salt air/water and occasional high humidity thrown in.
    A very high ride "out of the box", so a dangler or scout carry would be much preferred IMO.
    Btw; I really appreciate that you blokes are still using fine "telephone book" paper for testing, its become quite a challenge to find these days. Cheers Duke.

      I recommend the N690 version for your climate, and also get a Marttiini Timberjack (26€) and use its leather sheath; that's a very good dangler sheath for the Rokka. The Kydex sheath (at Lamnia store) is a lower-hanging design than the Kareline sheath shown here, but not a dangler.
      80CrV2 will develop rust almost immediately if left in a wet sheath (or smth), but you can clean it away with metal polish paste or maybe even with oil. Or just dry them thoroughly every few hours in the field and they'll hold their shine well.
