Got my X15 yesterday and thought I would share some of my observations on the machine. Mash IT’s review is very through so I won’t go into too many details on the things that are already covered. Specs: i7 11800H 32GB 3200 RAM Nvidia 3070 QHD Screen 1TB Storage Delivery timeline: Order placed June 24th, in production July 7th, Shipping from China July 11th, Delivered July 17th. Performance • Thermals were much better than the M15 R4 I tried out since temperatures never got over 90C while playing games on performance mode. The keyboard got warm but never hot to the touch and I had no problem gaming on the laptop for 3 - 4 hours straight. The side vents above the keyboard and on the sides got fairly hot. • Performance was OK but nothing to write home about, that’s expected with the lower wattage on the 3070. I think the conclusion is games are playable but not going to look spectacular. • Red Dead Redemption 2 on ultra-settings ran at about 75 - 85 degrees. FPS at about 55 - 80. • Monster Hunter Stories 2 on ultra-settings with DLSS ran at about 65 - 75 degrees. FPS 90 - 130. Fan noise • During normal use like web browsing and typing the fans were silent and computer very cool. • When the fans ran at lower speed there was a bit of fan whine. I don’t mind the noise but I can see how it would drive some people nuts. • On high/max speed the fans gave out a “whooshing” sound which was pleasant but noticeable, I would say it’s much better than the fan whine at lower speeds. QHD Screen: • This screen is definitely the highlight of the machine. Bright, clear, and awesome colors. This is worth your money to get the upgrade. Undervolting: Tried undervolting my machine using Throttlestop. All test with thermals/power set to performance. Default: • CPU temps around 80 - 95 degrees. TS Bench Score of 67.3. Undervolt -60 mV on both CPU core and CPU cache: • CPU temps around 75 - 90 degree. TS Bench Score of 65.5. Undervolt -75mV on both CPU core and CPU cache: • System crashed. Other observations/bugs: • The machine is very portable as I can easily slip this into a laptop bag and carry it to another location for some gaming. • Build quality is excellent and my favorite part is the smaller power brick that really lightens the load. • Ports on the back of the computer is a bit of pain but honestly I really don’t mind. I usually don’t plug in more than a mouse and a USB stick so the lack of ports is not a big deal for me. • After update Alienware CC said it couldn’t detect my computer so had to restart system to fix this. • Keyboard randomly stopped working halfway through typing this review LOL. Will see if this happens again. • For those who find it annoying when your computer starts when you open the lid, you can disable this by starting your computer repeatedly pressing F2 disabling the “Start on lid open” feature. • Alienware CC is kind of hard to use and I had a hard time playing around with all the settings since this is my first Alienware. Conclusion: I’m going to do some more testing on this machine to see if I want to keep it or not. So far it’s lived up to my expectations but haven’t blown my mind.
I’m planning on getting the X15 as well. I’m confused between the X15 with RTX3070 + 360 Hz panel +16 gb ram and the M15 R6 with i7 11800H + RTX 3080 +360 Hz panel. Any suggestions you can give bro? 😅
@@sathurshansuresh7937 I think it depends on what you will be using it for. The X15 is definitely more gaming + productivity oriented while the M15 line has traditionally been more gaming oriented. Not sure how the cooling is on the R6 but my M15R4 ran too hot for me, the X15 is much better in this regard. I see you are looking at the 360hz panel. This is mainly for pro gamers so maybe you want to opt for the M15R6 for a more dedicated gaming machine and save some $$$. I did see that they lowered the build quality in some places for the R6 this year, but it depends whether you care about small stuff. Hope this helps.
@@c.e.s5045 You can see the full timeline if you scroll down i. The review but the short answer is ordered June 24th and received July 17th. You can do two things to help get it sooner: 1) when placing the order, do it through a sales agent. They will push to get the order through faster so you don’t cancel, 2) bother the customer support like crazy, like checking in every day. They will place a priority label on your order just to get you off their backs. Hope this helps!
@Helloooooo am here I’ve had it for the last 7 months and I like everything about it EXCEPT that it doesn’t sleep when I close the lid… and that’s really annoying… just because of that I wouldn’t recommend it.
Yeah i agree, X15 and X17 are really nice looking laptops that have all the power that a pc gamer will need. Ppl that say otherwise are haters that can't afford it.
DELL IS THE WORST COMPANY EVER, my order cancelled over a week after confirmation without a reason, was bumbled around between sales reps and customer support. And now the deal is gone. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND TO PURCHASE DELL
Thanks mate, I get asked so many times about one handed opening and yes if it is done well I like it but much prefer a stiffer more durable hinge holding up my screen 😂
Thanks for reviewing the base model. I could not find any reviews besides this one that reviewed the 3060 card and lower res display. I just bought the base model at a super steep discount at 1399 since its been out a year. I really appreciate the base model review. It helps a lot!
Another spot-on review! Covered everything. I was weighing this vs. x17, but this re-confirms my choice to go w/ x17. 15inch is more my form-factor but far too many small compromises sacrificing performance when compared to other options (including Blade 14).
Amazing design and build! Looks to be a better choice for me than Razer especially for rendering and long hours of use. Alienware has sure put itself back on the block! Cheers to this wonderful iteration. Might be getting back to this brand should they continue on this path. Been on Asus for two laptops since my last 15" Alienware with 980 M graphics.
I like Dell's take on x15, it's nice, it's thin, and it's beautiful. It's fine that x15 is not the most powerful laptop, but being thin and small, just like Razer Blade or Asus Zephyrus. I just hope that Dell gives some more ports because there is so much space left unused at the back. Other than that, I like x15 more than Asus Zephyrus G15 & M16, Razer Blade 14 & 15. The soldered RAM is not a serious problem, we can pick 32GB, and we should be fine. The screen is nice too, QHD with Adv Optimus and G-sync, wow!
XPS15 also doesn't have nearly enough cooling power for RTX 3070/3080 either, XPS15 can only have up to 3050Ti. You cannot apply your weight logic to everything. x15 is heavier because it has more coppers and 4 fans to cool everything.
@@pisachasrinuan7960 This is braindead, noticed how you never described the x15 as being light.. because it isn't. It's literally 0.34LBS off the legion 7, which has non dogshit ports, unsoldered ram, 165w 3080, no dogshit scam-like displays, etc. It's a joke, don't defend trash that reviewers won't mention. UNLIKE the zephyrus G15 it's NOT a thin and light. Utter fail
Don’t do it. Dell is the worst company I have ever dealt with. They cancelled my order without any prior notification , leaving me with no laptop. And the customer service was terrible. I wouldn’t support them. One product among 1000 shoddy devices and services isn’t worth it
@@synonymoususer7321 Same here, They tied up my CC payment by saying my laptop was shipped July 3rd and now its delayed to the 30th. Since it has a shipping number, but still shows it hasn't been picked up by FedEx, they refuse to refund my CC. They are saying its a logistics error and that they need to wait for the laptop to return to them and be inspected before any refund can take place! I never heard of anything like this. Plus, my BestBuy order from June 3rd still hasn't shipped out and is also delayed. It's safe to say they will never get my business again!
I don't work for Dell or even like Dell but of the 2 X17's we ordered and 1 X15 all were delivered in 3 weeks. Though we did order a m17r4 with cherry keyboard that got delayed so many times we ended up cancelling it
Woke up and saw the notification for this :) I think this laptop is awesome, my biggest gripe will porbably be the enter key, as someone with a desktop the laptop doesn't need to be all migthty, just needs to be light with decent battery life, decent thermals and able to video edit, great typing experience and do well for basic computing. This laptop checks all those boxes while looking good. Can't wait to get mine :)
It is a lovely laptop but I am frustrated they didn’t just put the r4 keyboard on it, not sure why the felt the need to change its layout. The typing experience is lovely though, it will make a great companion device 👍
@@MashITTech yeah the physical space taken up by the keyboard is not too dissimilar so I don't get it. Guess I'll have to retrain my muscle memory lol. Are you a gamer btw, what's a game you have racked up the most hours on?
That’s a tough question, I play a lot of cod, battlefield and hell let loose as well as a lot of strategy games such as wargame, supreme commander and sc2. What do you play? You will soon get used to the keyboard I just don’t get why we should have to!
Thanks for this. I have a m15 R5 on order right now and while I like the design of the x15, the lack of ports is a huge no-no, the insane price, and the soldered RAM (especially with Dell's proclivity to use high density RAM...) there was no way.
@@MashITTech that's great to hear at least. I know the base x17 comes with high density RAM which is terrible for that premium price tag, but hey, they thought about it with the soldered one at very least. I ordered HyperX 3200 CL20 RAM and will be using your tips to get the most out of the M15 R5.
@@MashITTech absolutely will do. I have a Legion 7i with RTX 2080 Super Max-Q and will be comparing it to the M15 R5 with 3070 before and after the RAM change
No way I’d pay msrp but scored one of these (3070 with qhd screen) brand new on eBay for $2k usd. My last alienware laptop lasted me about 8 years and still ran like a champ when I got rid of it. Alienware is pricey but they’re solid as hell.
Your channel is quickly becoming one of my go-to channels for laptop reviews. Great production quality and narration/commentary thats pleasing to the ears. Only minor critiqe is i wish you'd include the full dimensions (LxWxH) of the laptop, otherwise keep up the great work!
Thank you mate, I really appreciate that. And that is great feedback, I will look to include the dimensions from now on. We have been on a massive learning curve over this last 10 months and still have so much to learn 😂
Great reviews on both x15 and x17... can't wait for comparison video 👍 For those that decide to get either one be prepared for the very long wait when ordering with Dell ... As of now I'm still waiting for the x17 as I got a notification that it's been delayed 😢
@@MashITTech One of the agents that helped me mentioned that they were short on certain parts...but according to what I've been reading on the community forums this isn't nothing new even before pandemic started Hopefully it arrives in the original time frame or before the revised new time frame I was given in notification ...I just want the laptop for goodness sake
The lack of port it's kind of a bit of a bummer I like the black and white contrast your webcam test this time was a bit disappointing I want to see Gary again keep up the good work mate
I would imagine similar results but the base M15 R5 now has the MUX switch available (but inferior RAM). Bigger thing, R5 is gonna be a lot hotter doing the same thing.
7:51 _Three usb ports could be ideal, however two, i think little badly. However doesn't exist perfect laptop as you said Mash! Awesome Ultra Mega review_
I will patiently wait till u get it done :) I just got confirmation today that my X17 is being shipped, so I'm hyped :D Many thanks for ur efforts in getting all of these awesome high quality videos out!
Thanks mate, I appreciate all the support you guys give me, it makes it worth it! Great news on yours being shipped. Means you should get it in about a week 😀
Hey david great review as always just so you know the M15 r5/r6 have received a mux switch for the 165hz panels Also did you receive any updates for a MUX on the x15/x17’s Non-G-Sync model?
Yes thanks mate, I saw Dell release that and am so pleased! unfortunately nothing released yet for the X15/17 but I keep checking. The fact that they did this for m15r5 and G15 gives me hope it will get added
I've returned mine because the fans made a lot ot whine noise and i couldn't bear it. Other users and reviewers say that the fan noise is good, so maybe it was a defective unit. I don't know if i should buy another one, try the M15 R5 or just wait for the next model.
Mine doesn't exhibit that much whine. I am sure there is a little amount of whine from the slim fans but to me it is comfortable fan noise and I am really fussy.
I am super super sensitive and if I get very close to the laptop and removed all noise, I can hear some high pitched sounds coming from my fans too...I think for me, its the top 2 fans that make the high pitched noise. However nobody else can hear it! Thankfully, in normal use, I can drown them out hehe.. It seems most laptops have some whine...
Hey, Can u suggest either of below two Alienware ? X15 R1 - Core i7-11800H, 32 GB 3200MHz, RTX3070, 1TB NVMe, FHD 360 Hz (i am no gamer, but they don't have QHD here & this is only coming with Advance Optimus) m15R3 Core i9-10980HK, 32 GB 2666MHz, RTX2080 Super MaxQ, 1TB NVMe, 4K OLED (Love this screen) Both in same price, which should i get ?
Thanks for the reviews, you make my decisions easier. could you please try whether the 96W apple power supply still only delivers ~ 65W? Do you have any recommandations for small usb-c chargers?
I don't currently have a 96w in the office but I have a 100w USBC plus the XPS 130w USBC I will be testing. Once I have tested some PSUs I will give some recommendations 👍
Hey bro! I love your videos but I have a question I am about the buy the dell vostro 7510 which all the specs seems to be a great laptop but there is not a single video on TH-cam talking about it’s specs and real life things like battery life speaker sound, can you game on it, does it get warm?. So I though it would be better If I went on to you and maybe you can help me find all that information or even better if you could tell me more information about the computer 🥺🙏🏻
Oh wow, I didn't even noticed Dell had released this one. I can't really help much as we have not seen this new chassis. even if I order one because it has such a long lead time they won't be here for over a month. I have the new Inspiron 16" on order and have a due date for September :( but that looks like a slightly more premium version of this vostro.
Thanks for the Review! Really helped assure me I am going to like mine when it finally arrives! I did the custom X15 config with the 2tb nvme ssd, 11th gen i7, 32gb RAM, and the rtx 3080. Would you know if I will stil get the smaller alienware power supply shown in this video? I saw on your X17 video that there is a massive one lol not sure which I will get!
I am 99% sure you will get the small 240w as the m15 has a lower TGP than the X17. I will try and find out for sure in the morning and let you know for definite 👍
Great Review! I just subscribed. I've been looking forward to this laptop for a while now and in my case..... laptops are suppose to be portable and if they pack a punch even better. So I think this laptop checks all the boxes. It's beautiful and sleek, powerful enough to run any triple A titles and has decent battery life. I figure whoever is buying this will not be replacing ram or flipping the motherboard to repaste. Just order with enough ram and with 4 fans spinning it should keep cool while gaming. One complaint I do have is I wish the mechanical keyboard was an option but understandably so due to the thinness of the machine it's not possible. Good thing is the membrane keyboard is excellent. I ordered mine with a qhd screen, 3080, 32gb ram, and 1tb storage. I know the 3080 was overkill but oh well, I'm a sucker for the rgb trackpad. Thanks for the thorough review I'm so hyped now to receive mine.
BTW do you think the speaker on this is better or worse than the m15 r5/r6? I was choosing between m15 r6 and x17 r1, the m15 has QHD panel and x17 has better cooling, looks nicer and performs better. But from what I gathered, x15 3070 only performs about 10% less than x17 3070 despite 30W difference, so I might just choose x15 as it is so easy to carry around and having decent power at the same time. Plus it has QHD panel option which is really nice to have, only downside is it is so thin to have a mechanical keyboard on.
yes the speakers on this X15 is definitely better than the R5/R6. And correct, adding more wattage will give slightly better performance but it isn't linear and the 110w of the 3070 still performs well considering its compact size. Plus the QHD is an amazing panel and I just wished they offered something similar to the 17!
@@MashITTech I totally agree with you that if x17 has the QHD option it will be such a nice laptop to have. I doubt that the lack of QHD option on x17 has something to do with the global chip shortage. The only thing I am worrying about these x series laptop is that, I see people complaining all over the world about the high pitched "whine" noise when the fan is fully turned on. Have you experienced this? I do think this is a comman issue among the alienware laptops and I am afriad it will be annoying. (Tho I heard using duct tape to seal off the fans' sorrounding may help reduce it)
So mine gets delivered next week. I'm not familiar with all of those nvidia features (gsync, dlss or whatever its called, etc). Will those features work with an external monitor that supports them?
Thanks for the video! It helped me appreciate my Aero 15 OLED a lot more at $1700 Shipped compared to an over-hyped / over priced Alienware X15 laptop. Running my initial tests... the Aero 15, with similar specs, out performs the X15 in every way. Plus it has way more ports, Thunderbolt 4, Full SD card Reader, upgradable RAM and a 4k Oled display. Would have made a huge mistake waiting on this dud to arrive! You just got a SUB for life David! Keep up the awesome work!
Thanks for the support mate, I appreciate it. I really feel Dell missed the mark with this one especially with all the effort they put into the 17 (which has full power gfx, upgradeable ram and many more ports)
@@MashITTech I agree that the X17 is way better than the X15, but Dang that price point is insane. The X17 that I ordered on June 3rd will cost me $2700 (if it ever gets shipped out) and it's only a 3070 with 16GB of Ram. The Aorus 15P that I played with for a few weeks had a 16GB 3080 at 130watts and that was only $2400 shipped. I do admit the build quality doesn't match up, but the performance should be way better with these X's. I'm patiently waiting to see other reviews, but it seems like you have the "in" with dell since you're the only one getting any of these! lmao
Wow the x17 is expensive for you guys! All laptops are expensive in the U.K. but alienware is about on par with razer and with a good discount code I can get them cheaper than aorus and msi! I got the 3080 model with 32gb and 1tb for £2100 which is an incredible price in the uk
@@MashITTech Wow That's a killer price! The only thing keeping me interested in the X17 is the 360hz display with Advanced Optimus. I tried it on the M15 R5 and loved it! I can only imagine how good it would be on a 17" Display. Hopefully BestBuy will pull their head out of their ass and update us on the availability!
@@ingridajuskaite3072 Yes I own one. Have you seen it? This is not country specific as the US keyboard has the same bad design issues shown in this video: specifically, the left shift key moved and tucked in and the arrow keys moved up. The media keys are placed where you could accidentally hit them each time you press Enter (as MashIT notes). And not even a play/pause keys included after removing the whole numbpad and the macro keys from the previous gen M17R4. So yeah, you should do more research before typing about "2 different keyboards". Cuz, the US is a country and our keyboard are just as screwed up as the one MashIT shows in the UK. May be you live in that special country where this doesn't bother you :)
@@raybeckon1235 For me this layout is definitely looks comfortable, better then any other my dells I have. And it's not hard to get used to any new layout for your daily machine. I use lots of different all the time never was any problem first few times and good to go. You should be very moaner or have a bumbling mechanics. Cuz I never pressed my "shift" when pressed "up" or "4" / "7" when press "enter" which would be that media keys. Check layout for inspiron 7591 to understand what I'm talking about. what would you say then... Never any probs. Also the media keys... what would happen if you press accidentally while gaming? let me answer - NOTHING! you can config your keyboard and even if leave it as it is these keys not "windows" key and etc. Stop being negative moaner with no reason. or cry. The first one and the last one because because interface keys where elsewhere? :D did you ever tried to come back to your old one which was "perfect" to drive after few others? I did and it was cra...p. About the keyboard options: I'm about to buy x15r1 and I stuck at keyboard options to choose. Series-x thin and series-m. believe me I do 2-3 hours of research now for about 6 weeks. alienware m... x.. and xps 9500 9510. few days did about 10 hours a day just about alienwares. I saw all the youtube videos relating alienware few last products. Read all the comments and forums on "surface web" can't find any help yet. Dell's representative talked officially on youtube about old trusty m-series, new cherry (x17) and new series-x thin on x15. but not much said about, only that there is these options and m-series is everyones liked proved and specialy designed x-series thin for x15 which is only for US and International. This is alternative to cherry on x17.
X15 is on a grand clearance right now for $1,599. I called and got a extra $200 off. For $1,399 got a RTX 3070 with the 360hz panel. For the price there’s nothing within the segment.
I would love to but I don’t have an m15 in the office at the moment but had loads of people from the unboxing asking me to compare the height with macbook
@@MashITTech I see. Nonetheless great video! Will you review alienware m15 r6 by any chance? These two head to head will be very interesting R6 prob have higher fps while r5 have better battery life(Maybe better thermal?)
They have only just released the r6 in the U.K. my bank account is empty at the moment as I spent this months budget on the x series but I will try and order one soon
I agree. I can't understand the obsession with thinner gaming laptops because let's face it we are gaming with our gaming laptops and not using them on the move to do work.
From my perspective it’s a balance between work and gaming on the go. For gaming, I will either be using this at home on a desk or at a hotel when I am traveling. I do not anticipate ever gaming on this laptop while unplugged since that just drains the battery and gaming results will be mediocre at best (this is probably true for nearly all gaming laptops). However, I do anticipate using this unplugged when I’m trying to do some work on a plane/train enroute to my destination. From the review it seems I should be able to get 5 - 6 hours out of this machine if I turn down the refresh rates/brightness. I will never take this into a business meeting (professional meetings don’t take well to RGB pollution and alien heads) but hopes it will serve the purpose of handling backend workloads. I looked at other 17-inch laptops and they are simply too large to carry around conveniently. The 15-inch definitely sacrifices a lot of power so most gaming enthusiasts won’t even consider it, but I honestly think they designed the X15 for people like me (going after the Razer Blade target market).
@@Scanger001 Yeah that makes sense. My last generation Dell G5 RTX2070 max q is 80w and pretty thin and light but I got that just because I didn't know any better then and that was actually the highest spec of that model they did. I can see the appeal but would a bit of extra thickness really bother you?
@@JoeMaranophotography You make a good point and the honest answer is NO. I really wouldn't mind a bit of extra thickness or weight but I also don't know if the extra performance would be that useful for me. It's good to be able to play Cyberpunk on ultra but I tried that with M15 R4 and it ran too hot. They are probably limited by the size of the laptop in terms of cooling.
Thanks for the incredible review! Could you please give me your opinion about the M15 r6? and which is your preferred choice if I compare it with the M15 r4?
I have tested the m15r5 ryzen and that was OK not great. I haven't tested the r6 yet but my concern is the cooling system, it struggled with the ryzen which uses less wattage I don't know how well it will cope with a 11800h! Also if you get one, get the QHD version, that is one amazing panel
I have that model on order now as I was a bit disappointed with the base model. I didn’t realise it used an inferior cooling solution on the 3060 so hope the 3070 with 110w does better
@@MashITTech another question though, what do you think of the counterpart M15 R6 (With I7-11800H, 3070 and it has also the QHD Panel)? Do you also recommend that, since it has more ports though than the one in X15?
That is a tough call but I would just get an i7 11800h and overclock it (fell left it unlocked) as it will run as fast as the 11900h as both will saturate the cooling system at high clocks
Could you also compare this with the xps 17 ? Even a 9700 (last year) would be nice. Just to see the physical difference. Would help people like me to decide between a 9710 and a gaming 15 in :D . I am confused to go between a 17 in screen with vapour chamber cooling and dedicated gaming laptop. All i play is Fifa :D
That I cant tell you yet as the m15r6 is only just available in the UK. I plan to get one in soon to test but my concerns are the cooling, the m15r5 really struggles with the ryzen and the intel uses more watts than the ryzen! also the X15 feels a lot more premium but has soldered on ram
Can we use two gen 3 SSD instead of one gen 4 and one gen 3? Will it affect the laptop in any means? Thought could save some money by sacrificing a teeny tiny amount of speed
@@MashITTech Sorry again sir, I would like to know how about the temperture for alienware x17 keyboard? is it very hot when gaming for couple hours? Cause x17 has four fans right? Comparing to m17R4 which one keyboard cooling better?
So if money is not the problem and I want a good and sturdy gaming laptop which is thin and portable, and should look BEAUUUTIFULLLLLLL..., Then is this a good laptop for me? ( I want to go for the rtx 3070). Awesome review btw.
@@MashITTech thanks for the prompt response, really appreciate it! Which will be the best value for money alienware laptop that has a slim form factor.
either the m17r4 or X17 would be my pick. I would struggle to pick between them as they both have great features. Make sure you get a good coupon code or haggle with the customer services as you can knock the price down quite a bit
that would completely depend on your region, what sales are on or the discount code you get. As an example I got the X17 in the UK for over 20% off the list price taking it down the £2100 which is a pretty good deal with our high prices (this is for the 3080/11800h/32gb/1tb/165hz
Might be a dumb question, but if you get the 165hz non GSYNC panel, is it still compatible with an external monitor with GSYNC? As in, will it use the GSYNC on the external.
David, do you know if 16gb/32gb version of this laptop comes with high or low density ram? I think it can tell by the number of ram chips on the mitherboard(16 or 8 in total) but I have no idea where that is on this motherboard
That is what I got and the cpu performance is pretty impressive, I am really enjoying these 11th gen they are finally giving amd a run for the money especially in single core
@@MashITTech Eagerly looking forward to it. I'm curious how it'll stack up to Intel's 11th gen offerings. I've been reading a lot of articles saying that the AMD processors' performance when on battery leaves a lot to be desired.
I'm looking for a laptop I can game on at home but bring to school, is this a good choice or should I buy the base Blade 14, I'm worried the Alienware is too flashy and chunky
You can easily turn the RGB off but the chassis does scream gamer. But other than the looks this would do a good job for school work as well as gaming and the battery isn't bad for a gaming laptop
I haven't tested it yet, I am sure it is going to be good, I want to get one in but the price is very high in the uk (alienware is also expensive here but with coupons you can make the price more affordable) My only concern is fan noise, I have a blade advanced 2020 and the fans spin up with any hint of activity and get quite noisy when gaming
hi I'm thinking of buying a new notebook with a 34 inch monitor. I would get an Alienware x15 notebook with an Intel Core i9 11900H, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 8GB and 32 GB DDR4. Do you think I can play games with the notebook on an Alienware 34 inch monitor without any problems?
do yourself a favour and just get the 11800h as there is not enough difference to justify the extra cost. The laptop will handle gaming at 1440p well but you may need to mess with settings on demanding games to get the FPS you require
@@MashITTech I wonder if the 3060 on the X17 is maxed out at 115w? Either way yours is a 90 watt variant which is what I'm interested in. 90 watts is pretty low for a laptop that has 4 fans in it.
I am not sure yet as I still haven’t ordered a gen 4 ssd. Trying to decide which to buy, was going to get the WD sn850 but I am worried about the heat of that drive. And yes you can use both slots at once but only one gen 4 and the other will be gen 3
Hey Mash It, I would like to mount my x15 to add a hard drive but the cover won't come off, it looks like it's stuck on, how did you get it out? because I don't dare to force
As you unscrew the corners at the front of the laptop it should stay in the base cover and pop it up, your 6th screw is it just spinning but stuck in the plate?
Thank you mate, it does look amazing and is rock solid. I just wished the ram wasn't soldered on. If you ever get one, make sure you get the QHD is my only advice, that panel is amazing
nope none at all on this or the X17 although I have a couple of users with the cherry keyboard saying they get random freezes and I am trying to find a cause with them. have you got this issue?
@@MashITTech nope but I’ll be getting my x15 in like 10 days since it has just got shipped yesterday. I saw some other people have this issue with them, so I asked :)
@@MashITTech Thanks. I appreciate that. I bought the razer blade 14 AMD and had to return it because of the insane high pitched fan whine during heavy tasks which gave me a headache so i was quite concerned about this.
Yeah, the fan on the blade 14 can be a bit harsh on load. Fortunately the X15 sounds more of a whoosh on load but as mentioned on very low fan speed they have a slight whine. Fan noise between the two I definitely prefer the X15.
Got my X15 yesterday and thought I would share some of my observations on the machine. Mash IT’s review is very through so I won’t go into too many details on the things that are already covered.
Specs:
i7 11800H
32GB 3200 RAM
Nvidia 3070
QHD Screen
1TB Storage
Delivery timeline:
Order placed June 24th, in production July 7th, Shipping from China July 11th, Delivered July 17th.
Performance
• Thermals were much better than the M15 R4 I tried out since temperatures never got over 90C while playing games on performance mode.
Fan noise
• During normal use like web browsing and typing the fans were silent and computer very cool.
QHD Screen:
• This screen is definitely the highlight of the machine. Bright, clear, and awesome colors. This is worth your money to get the upgrade.
Undervolting:
Tried undervolting my machine using Throttlestop. All test with thermals/power set to performance.
Default:
• CPU temps around 80 - 95 degrees. TS Bench Score of 67.3.
Undervolt -60 mV on both CPU core and CPU cache:
• CPU temps around 75 - 90 degree. TS Bench Score of 65.5.
Undervolt -75mV on both CPU core and CPU cache:
• System crashed.
Other observations/bugs:
• The machine is very portable as I can easily slip this into a laptop bag and carry it to another location for some gaming.
Conclusion:
I’m going to do some more testing on this machine to see if I want to keep it or not.
How long did it take to arrive?? I’m still waiting T_T
How has your X15 been holding up during the past months. I plan on buying one. thx
It looks so beautiful. But, I prefer a laptop that has better performance and a RAM that is not soldered.
I hate that your right
I just got the 5 Pro for a week now. And I absolutely love it! RTX 3060, 16GB RAM and RYZEN 7 5800 processor.
@User 2389 Specs? How's the temp? Someone just told me that Alienware m15R5 is better than the pro, but I am doubting it.
x17 or m series which isn't about the look
@User 2389 Yes indeed!
Seems like a pretty solid laptop! Thanks for these Alienware X series reviews! Looking forward to the x17 vs x15 comparison :)
I think that will be the next video I work on 👍
@Helloooooo am here I’ve had it for the last 7 months and I like everything about it EXCEPT that it doesn’t sleep when I close the lid… and that’s really annoying… just because of that I wouldn’t recommend it.
I think we can all agree this is the best looking gaming laptop.
Not the best performing by a long shot tho...
No, they killed it by making the inside black. If it was all Lunar Light and all models had the RGB TouchPad then yes
Yeh but you definitely cannot carry this in a serious setting (you can just people will look at you).
"Personally I'd much rather have a stiffer screen lid than a wobbly one"
finally someone who makes sense.
Thanks mate, I get asked so many times about one handed opening and yes if it is done well I like it but much prefer a stiffer more durable hinge holding up my screen 😂
David from Mash IT back at it again 😂👍 Keep doing your thing man you're getting better at it!
haha thanks mate, I have started doing it in my sleep :) thanks for all the support 👍
This is the first time we see your face:). Great review, keep them coming.
Thanks for reviewing the base model. I could not find any reviews besides this one that reviewed the 3060 card and lower res display. I just bought the base model at a super steep discount at 1399 since its been out a year. I really appreciate the base model review. It helps a lot!
Wow that really is a great price. And yes I do try and get a few different models in as most big TH-camrs only get the top spec models in
Another spot-on review! Covered everything. I was weighing this vs. x17, but this re-confirms my choice to go w/ x17. 15inch is more my form-factor but far too many small compromises sacrificing performance when compared to other options (including Blade 14).
I am going to do a vs video between x17 and x15 but like you there are too many compromises on the x15 and I would pick the x17 every time
Amazing design and build!
The XPS 15 doesn't have soldered ram, yet the heftier X15 does? That's not okay.
Utter fail
I totally agree with you expect ports. There is so nice port hubs on the market. I prefer stronger chassis than more ports.
As always, David....great review, sir. I just left an additional comment on your X17 review. I can't wait for your comparison video. Thanks
Well done as always. Ordering mine tonight. Thanks again.
R.I.P bank account
Be prepared to wait over a month only to have your order delayed multiple times.
@@MashITTech cool all great titles, and wow I remember supreme commander, great game too! Does that show my age a bit lol
Haha I played the original Total Annihilation back in the day, that shows my age 😂
I think this design would be much better in black/grey like the M15. I wish they'd offer both.
Thanks so much for listening to my comment, your a great TH-camr, and you are very knowledgeable!
Thats not a problem at all. I always try and fit in requests where possible 😀👍 and thanks for the kind words
Thanks for this. I have a m15 R5 on order right now and while I like the design of the x15, the lack of ports is a huge no-no, the insane price, and the soldered RAM (especially with Dell's proclivity to use high density RAM...) there was no way.
Fortunately ram is low density but I also hate that it’s soldered
@@MashITTech that's great to hear at least. I know the base x17 comes with high density RAM which is terrible for that premium price tag, but hey, they thought about it with the soldered one at very least. I ordered HyperX 3200 CL20 RAM and will be using your tips to get the most out of the M15 R5.
great! can you let me know how you get on with the ram? that's some great timings on that ram
@@MashITTech absolutely will do. I have a Legion 7i with RTX 2080 Super Max-Q and will be comparing it to the M15 R5 with 3070 before and after the RAM change
R5 is a horrible laptop vs competitors.
The Alienware X series definitely won the design department. Knowing Dell's solid laptop design I'd say this is solid as well.
It is rock solid
@@MashITTech no worries mate, ur doing a wonderful job. Cheers 👏
finally someone who buys the 3060 version so that i can get the review for the one i want to buy
Been waiting for this one
Great reviews on both x15 and x17... can't wait for comparison video 👍
For those that decide to get either one be prepared for the very long wait when ordering with Dell ...
As of now I'm still waiting for the x17 as I got a notification that it's been delayed 😢
oh no way, my 17 and 15 were both received 3 weeks from order. I wonder if they are having trouble getting components?
@@MashITTech One of the agents that helped me mentioned that they were short on certain parts...but according to what I've been reading on the community forums this isn't nothing new even before pandemic started
Hopefully it arrives in the original time frame or before the revised new time frame I was given in notification ...I just want the laptop for goodness sake
Are we sure that X15 has vapor chamber in it? For the X17 is totally the case but didn't find specifically information for the smaller X15
The lack of port it's kind of a bit of a bummer I like the black and white contrast your webcam test this time was a bit disappointing I want to see Gary again
keep up the good work mate
Thanks mate, appreciate the support. And don’t worry I will sneak Gary in the next one! He actually saw me this time 😂
How is the performance compared to Alienware M15 Ryzen edition with RTX 3060, considering that has slightly higher powered RTX 3060?
I would imagine similar results but the base M15 R5 now has the MUX switch available (but inferior RAM). Bigger thing, R5 is gonna be a lot hotter doing the same thing.

Whoa! Props for use of the highly obscure (at least in the US), somewhat archaic _"verted"_ haha!
This was a very professional and objective review. Well done sir 👍👍
Thank you kindly!
It's nice. I almost ordered this but then chose the Razer 14 just because of the build quality and sleek look.
Did you receive your blade 14? I am tempted to get one in for review but I am sure every TH-cam and his dog has already reviewed it 😂
@@MashITTech yeah. there are plenty of reviews of the blade 14 already. It's a mighty little laptop.

Hey david great review as always just so you know the M15 r5/r6 have received a mux switch for the 165hz panels
Also did you receive any updates for a MUX on the x15/x17’s Non-G-Sync model?
Yes thanks mate, I saw Dell release that and am so pleased! unfortunately nothing released yet for the X15/17 but I keep checking. The fact that they did this for m15r5 and G15 gives me hope it will get added
@@MashITTech hopefully for the 4K/120hz atleast!! Thank you for your prompt reply!
Like the design and size, but the soldered RAM is a big NoNo! Especially 32gb is far less for performance.
Too thin vs space restrict... we can’t do anything...but at least the 17inch have ram slots.
What are you doing that you need more than 32gb?
X15 R1 -
Core i7-11800H, 32 GB 3200MHz, RTX3070, 1TB NVMe, FHD 360 Hz (i am no gamer, but they don't have QHD here & this is only coming with Advance Optimus)
m15R3
Core i9-10980HK, 32 GB 2666MHz, RTX2080 Super MaxQ, 1TB NVMe, 4K OLED (Love this screen)
Both in same price, which should i get ?
Can you do a direct comparison of this to the Dell G15 5800H with the 3060? What are the main differences between the two?
Thanks for the reviews, you make my decisions easier.
could you please try whether the 96W apple power supply still only delivers ~ 65W?
Do you have any recommandations for small usb-c chargers?
I don't currently have a 96w in the office but I have a 100w USBC plus the XPS 130w USBC I will be testing. Once I have tested some PSUs I will give some recommendations 👍
thanks :)
Awesome review. Soldered ram is a bummer. Also not having rj45. Now I am seriously thinking of looking into m15 r5 or r6
R5 gets smashed by competitors
you do get a USBC to ethernet adapter in the box.
This is true, I would get the legion 5 pro every day of the week over the m15r5
Are the wrist rests too small? I would be doing a lot of coding and typing on this, how comfortable are the wrist rests?
Can you do a video on upgrading the ssd on this laptop(X15) 🤗🤗 as I’m buying this , it would be very useful
sure, it is very easy to do :)
@@MashITTech thanks btw that was a very fast reply really happy 😃
Thanks for the thorough review I'm so hyped now to receive mine.
wow you have gone all out! I hope you enjoy it. Let us know your thoughts when it arrives :)
@@MashITTech Absolutely, super excited after watching your review
Is there a chance for you to review the M15 R6? Thanks
Probably ordering that next 👍
(Tho I heard using duct tape to seal off the fans' sorrounding may help reduce it)
Good review David 👏
So nice to see a 3060 x15 Video!I also order 2k 240hz screen with my 3060 x15… cant wait anymore xD
So mine gets delivered next week. I'm not familiar with all of those nvidia features (gsync, dlss or whatever its called, etc). Will those features work with an external monitor that supports them?
yes they sure will.
That keyboard layout and design is an absolute horror. What a wasted redesign. Thanks for the review!
have you seen x-series keyboard? they do 2 different ones, uk m-series and new international x-series
Stop being negative moaner with no reason. or cry.
Remember those days when every new phones came up totally different? what did you do? had just 1 all the time? :D no chance. Same with cars... how many did you drove them? Just 1?
Ingrida Juskaite yes the world revolves around you...and thanks for typing a long novel. Some of us have lives.
:DD of course what else could you say. typical...
X15 is on a grand clearance right now for $1,599. I called and got a extra $200 off. For $1,399 got a RTX 3070 with the 360hz panel. For the price there’s nothing within the segment.
What an amazing price! Well done mate
Could you please compare the height of x15 and m15 next time? That ll give us a general idea of how thin it is
I would love to but I don’t have an m15 in the office at the moment but had loads of people from the unboxing asking me to compare the height with macbook
@@MashITTech I see. Nonetheless great video!
Will you review alienware m15 r6 by any chance?
These two head to head will be very interesting
R6 prob have higher fps while r5 have better battery life(Maybe better thermal?)
They have only just released the r6 in the U.K. my bank account is empty at the moment as I spent this months budget on the x series but I will try and order one soon
@@MashITTech makes sense, thanks!
I agree. I can't understand the obsession with thinner gaming laptops because let's face it we are gaming with our gaming laptops and not using them on the move to do work.
T-That's exactly what I was planning on doing with mine.
@@Scanger001 In what way can I ask? Most people work with their laptops on battery and you aren't going to get good gaming performance doing so?
@@JoeMaranophotography
It’s a good question.
@@MashITTech thanks a lot for your response 😬😬😬 would you prefer an r4 over an r5 ???
Between the x15 and m15 r4 which would you recommend for a reasonably portable desktop replacement?
I went with the M15 R4... more USB ports for one....
Damn, the 3070 one with the QHD with this laptop is going to be solid, no doubt!
Give me a couple of days! Just got the m15r6 in for review and working on it now 😃👍
I can't find any 3080 model online? You mention it around 20 seconds that it's available with nvidia 3080.
oh wow, I have just checked and they have removed them from the website. I expect it is to do with the current shortages :(
Looking at getting the i9, need a ton of cpu for CAD/CAM. $3k on dells site now. Thing is gorgeous. anything better for the price range?
That is a tough call but I would just get an i7 11800h and overclock it (fell left it unlocked) as it will run as fast as the 11900h as both will saturate the cooling system at high clocks
@@MashITTech can it stay cool if OCd?
Thanks for the great review. 👍
All i play is Fifa :D
i am looking forward to x15 R2😳
Same especially with amd inside
What is the difference in perfomance from the m15 r6 and x15? Or both it is the same just the x15 is more premium quality.
Just waiting for the comparison video. Awesome content dude.. I just feel legion 5 pro is better option than x15
I would say this has the better build quality but the 5 pro has a lot more feature and is a lot less money! Will compare them soon 👍
@@MashITTech thanks man … keep up the hard work going
The design is near perfection for me, but we're missing the legion 5 pros 16:10 165hz QHD panel
Can we use two gen 3 SSD instead of one gen 4 and one gen 3?
Will it affect the laptop in any means? Thought could save some money by sacrificing a teeny tiny amount of speed
Yes you sure can and in all honesty it is the most sensible rout as most people won’t notice the difference between gen 3 and 4
@@MashITTech yess as it is a little cheaper
I have actually just ordered a gen 4 to test, will pop up my video on a few days
even without element 31 liquid metal the thermals seems good, does x15 11800h have same voltage as X17?
Every CPU voltage may vary slightly due to silicon lottery but the X15 processors are the same as the X17, they haven't been gimped
Hey David! Do you perhaps know how I could get my hands on a Dell coupon you mentioned?
What region are you in?
@@MashITTech Central Europe, Hungary.
Nothing atm, Dell havent had a decent coupons recently but I will give you a shout when I next see one
Great review! the screen of x15 is still too small for me, better choosing x17 and order it soon.
I am a 17” gaming laptop user! Could never game on a 15” screen, luckily I don’t care about portability
Is the alienware m17r4 worth it today for csgo and dota2? I really like it in terms of looks, has a num pad also...
The m17r4 is still an amazing laptop and will run all modern games without issue. You may also get it cheaper now x17 is out
@@MashITTech thanks for the prompt response, really appreciate it! Which will be the best value for money alienware laptop that has a slim form factor.
either the m17r4 or X17 would be my pick. I would struggle to pick between them as they both have great features. Make sure you get a good coupon code or haggle with the customer services as you can knock the price down quite a bit
@@MashITTech What will be a good final price for the two?
that would completely depend on your region, what sales are on or the discount code you get.
It is still
Compatible if you use the thunderbolt port as hdmi doesn’t allow gsync
@@MashITTech Nice, thank you!
Do you think the x15 with the following specs is worth it for $1800USD?
i7-11800h
RTX 3070
16GB ram
512gb SSD
360hz FHD panel
That sounds like a good price to me, they cost nearly twice that in uk
David, do you know if 16gb/32gb version of this laptop comes with high or low density ram? I think it can tell by the number of ram chips on the mitherboard(16 or 8 in total) but I have no idea where that is on this motherboard
All configuration seem to be low density thank goodness!
@@MashITTech yeahhhhhhh! That means I could save 200 bucks and go for 16gb version!
That is what I got and the cpu performance is pretty impressive, I am really enjoying these 11th gen they are finally giving amd a run for the money especially in single core
Wait so in Europe the 230hz cost more? Cuz when u showed the thing at 3.39 I think in the us it's more for the 360 hz screen I don't know why.
In the U.K. they are charging a fortune for the qhd 😢
@@MashITTech oh no that's 😢
Great review!
Great review. Any chance you'll be reviewing the Razer Blade14?
More than likely, I have spent this months budget already but I am sure I will get it in next month
@@MashITTech what are your thoughts on the blade 14?
I haven't tested it yet, I am sure it is going to be good, I want to get one in but the price is very high in the uk (alienware is also expensive here but with coupons you can make the price more affordable) My only concern is fan noise, I have a blade advanced 2020 and the fans spin up with any hint of activity and get quite noisy when gaming
My x15 should arrive in about a week, do someone know a suitable sleeve for this laptop? because it has particular dimensions.
hi I'm thinking of buying a new notebook with a 34 inch monitor.
What about some Lenovo budget laptop ?? Can u show us some of them ? Plzzz
I looked at the legion 5 pro, Legion 7, Thinkpad nano and carbon gen 9. Which models were you interested in?
Is the TGP 90 watts max? Because in the Alienware spec sheet at 26 secs it shows 60-115?
thats odd as even on their own web page they state 90w for 3060 and 11w for the 3070/3080
@@MashITTech I wonder if the 3060 on the X17 is maxed out at 115w? Either way yours is a 90 watt variant which is what I'm interested in. 90 watts is pretty low for a laptop that has 4 fans in it.
That is what I thought, I expected more with the new cooling system. The 3060 on the x17 is 130w, the cooling is a lot better on x17
is the down slot gen 4 and the top slot gen 3? (is both slots m.2)
can i fill in the 2 slots at same time ( like will there be any problem)?
I am not sure yet as I still haven’t ordered a gen 4 ssd. Trying to decide which to buy, was going to get the WD sn850 but I am worried about the heat of that drive. And yes you can use both slots at once but only one gen 4 and the other will be gen 3
@@MashITTech yeah I saw the wd but the thermals aren't so good I would choose my second choice as samsung 980 pro
Yes..
Stiff without a wobble is always a plus
Not sure why they crippled the 3060...
My Ryzen M15 R5 has 125Watts available for the 3060...
Lol that’s what she said

Hey Mash It, I would like to mount my x15 to add a hard drive but the cover won't come off, it looks like it's stuck on, how did you get it out? because I don't dare to force
as you undo the corner screws it should start popping up the cover, did yours not do this? did the screws just come out?
@@MashITTech I disassembled the 6 screws but nothing has moved, just the 6th at the bottom right which has turned a little in the void
As you unscrew the corners at the front of the laptop it should stay in the base cover and pop it up, your 6th screw is it just spinning but stuck in the plate?
@@MashITTech The 6th screw does not turn linearly but turns in circles, as if it was trying to lift the cover precisely, but nothing lifts
Can you get a tiny screwdriver in there screw hole and try and pry it up?
How long did it take you from ordering this to receive it?
3 weeks for all the x17 and x15 I ordered
Awesome review ❤️👍 design of this x15 is eye-catching slick and beautiful, my dream laptop definitely

@@MashITTech thanks for suggestions 👍
May I ask have you experienced any issue with the keyboard?
nope none at all on this or the X17 although I have a couple of users with the cherry keyboard saying they get random freezes and I am trying to find a cause with them. have you got this issue?
@@MashITTech nope but I’ll be getting my x15 in like 10 days since it has just got shipped yesterday. I saw some other people have this issue with them, so I asked :)
I am pretty sure it’s only the mech keyboard and that option isn’t available on the x15 so you should be good

Hi. I ordered this laptop. Some have commented that the fans have fan whine at lower speeds. Can you comment on this?
There is a small amount of whine but not enough to be bothersome to me and I am quite sensitive to fan noise.
@@MashITTech Thanks. I needed to hear that. I again appreciate that you are responding to comments.
