- In this video I perform my first oil change on my new Suzuki V-Strom 800DE Adventure. I also give you a quick tour around the skid plate and supports while doing the service.
Supplies and Tools needed:
- 4 qt of 4t motorcycle oil (I know I only show 3 in the video at first but
comment later that you need a 4th)
- Suzuki Oil Filter ITEM # 16510-07J00 (Suzuki's site)
- Crush washer ITEM # 09168-14004 (Suzuki's site)
- 10mm and 17mm socket
Resetting the LCD warning screen is a little more advanced than the oil change itself. I include instructions of how to do this yourself at the end of the video but if you're not comfortable doing it just go to the dealer, they'll probably reset the warning for free.
If you're curious about my Center Stand, it is a unit specifically made for this bike. I'll include a link to Suzuki's site for this specific part. Pay attention to the part number when you order it, only this one fits the 800DE Adventure!

Great video! I have my center stand sitting in my garage because Suzuki’s instructions say to ‘remove footrests’ but it seems quite a bit more involved than just unscrewing a few bolts. I’d love to see a tutorial video on what all you removed to put the center stand on!
The most difficult part of that install was getting the springs installed. As far as what has to come off you’re correct the foot pegs do have to be removed but they’re very easy to do. The biggest thing is remembering the kickstand also has to come off to give access so you have to support the bike another way
I have the exact same bike and just fyi the manual say to do chain adjustments on the side stand..a center stand is good though for flat repairs
But the chain play is the same on centre stand and side stand.
Tightening the chain on the side stand with the center stand on a motorcycle is the dumbest thing I've ever heard.
Good tutorial. For the 800 SE the service is the same?
Thanks for the tutorial. I am doing the first oil change on my 800 DE Adventyre today.
Hope it helps! These bikes are so easy to maintain I love it.
New subscriber here, congrats on your new DE; I'm a new owner (not the adventure model), too, about 1300 miles now. I had the dealer do the 1st service around 575 miles, but I will be doing my own in the future, so thank you for this video.
Awesome! Thank you!
Thanks mate good video. Just subbed
Nice work, subbed
Much appreciated!
Don't you ruin your warranty if you don't have an authorized shop do the specified oil changes?
Not that I know of. It’s pretty obvious if a machine has been abused or not maintained so that’s when that kind of thing would come up. I do my own maintenance on all of my vehicles mostly because I want to know the vehicle better and understand how it works
