I’m looking to buy an adventure bike and can’t decide what bike to get, this has really opened my eyes to how capable the 800DE is. Not many people showcasing this bike on TH-cam
I’m stoked to hear that this content is helping you out on your decision between the two. The V-Strom 800DE has surly surprised me on its capabilities and comfortability. Even so, I haven’t made hardy any changes to the bike set up but, that will also depend on where you plan on riding it… Cheers!
@@austinteyleryeah, I’ve been riding the old gen1 vstrom and love them but have been contemplating the usual new mid weight ADVs: T7, GS850/900, KTM 690-890, Transalp, Norden, and now the Tuareg. Now I have to consider the Strom800 again. Too many to choose from now. 🤯
@@joaorocha144 Isn't that what an Adventure bike is designed for, dirt? I have street bikes far superior to the Talp. Maybe I should put nobbies on my Goldwing and call it Transwing.
@joaorocha144 Interestingly enough, OnTheBackWheel recently did this comparison and found the 800DE to hold its own. However, your switching comparsons...The AT is significantly more money and would be like comparing a Ford Ranger vs. an F150. Based on weight, power, and ground clearance, the AT is the winner. Based on weight displacement and electronic aids, the 800DE is better.
Now that's the way to ride these babies and with the proper sound to go with it. Can you imagine it with a little suspension work. My KTM 990 is starting to feel a bit nervous. Thanks for the great vid...I think I'm finally convinced.
Very few "capable" riders have reviews the DR800 (800DE). So many get hung up on its weight, which really disappears when moving, unless it's in a loose corner. I love the front suspension, but I'd have to put a stiffer spring in the back. I tend to carry too much, but the bike, with a heavier spring would still likely preload alright with no baggage. And it's not going to break very easily. Thank you got pounding on it. Soon as my pocketbook will allow, I'll have one in my shop.
I agree, some stiffer springs for some hold up would be perfect. 👌 Also tires can play a big factor depending on the level of off-road riding. Excited for these upgrades! 😎
That was super impressive...both rider and bike. Looking at this bike to purchase and we ride some tougher stuff and you handled everything no problem on the 800. Like others said, the bike does sound amazing. Thanks for the content!
That big Strom just eats those hills like a champ! - great to see what these bigger adv bikes can do on the right tyres and in expert hands. Sounds just epic too on those big hill climbs as you get on and off the throttle. Must’ve been huge fun, I was grinning just watching!😃👍
Man ... I feel like that ride you took on the 800 would have just rag-dolled me. You owned that thing. Looks like you've spent 100's of hours on it although you haven't. Keep up the great work 👍
Thanks, top video. I've got a Vstrom that I'll pick up in 3 weeks & ride through desert country in Western Australia. Wondering about rim locks - never fitted them but presumably not difficult. Would be handy for loose sand. Cheers
Awesome! Can’t wait for you to get yours. I’m currently not running any rim locks but if you go with lower air pressure, you’ll have to be careful that you go too low. One of the next things for me will be rim locks so that I can adjust for lower air pressure when needed 😎👍
Great to see someone who can show what these big bikes are really capable of. If it had longer travel front and rear shocks like the motoworld Baja strom it would done alot more
Some guys already built the 800DE with a ton of custom stuff for Baja California race. The videos are online. She did very well. Stock suspension was obviously very limited. They had a full adj rear shock made by an outfit in the eastern US. Forks were swapped over from a big dirtbike and resprung. Spacers and all the rest made to mount up some tough Excel Takasago wheels.
I swear to god that bike manufacturers would sell much more bikes if they hired people who actually ride, to just ride the bike and let the bike capabilities speak for itself like what was done here. I had this bike on my shortlist but removed it after “influencers” who rode the bike on a flat trail review it and complain about what they didn’t like. Never again
I'm with you. I was leaning towards the transalp. Nope. I'm buying a DE. I'm so sick of reviews that give you generic stats/specs. but at the same time are such experts. Give me real world riding showing it's capabilities!!
Probably, but what you see is what you get. Go but a BMW and I'll buy the 800de. I'll pay less and have just as good reliability for less money.@Boostedtubes

Hi I am from Serbia and I would like to ask You a question. My friend has a problem with 1100 Dragstar or Vstar with middle drive bevel or shaft we have few videos of it so it woulbe nice If you can give us your opinion ? Thanks
I have beeing looking for this video to watch again. I saw it for 4 months ago and because it sees like to ride a pregnant bison on the African wilderness I left the idea to buy an Adventure bike My first experience in the dirt was with a CRF450F and then with a R. That was wild. I wanted something to commute between the week and to go for dirty rides and I thought light is better so I hat my eyes on the CRF300Rally or L But after driving an BMW G310GS on Highway at 120km/h with rain and wind, I almost had a death wobble. I had to ride arround 100 km/h and I got pissed out. I don’t want to get a dual and to suffer the 90 % from my time in the bike in Highway. That’s the reason I started to think again in the V-S 800 and wanted to watch the video again that let me live the idea to get a Suzuki. I steel think looks like a wild bison running away from a lion, but this heaviness can be my stability ally driving 120 Km/h each day that I have to get to work. I am in love with the CRF but I can have just one bike and it is better a functional day by day and to drive soft and easy “off. Road” with this beast than once in a wile wild with a dual sport buy to hate it each work day.
Those tires are junk lol. My KTM 500 EXC eats a rear in less than 150 km 🤦♂️😂🤣. Makin me take another look at that bike now 🤔. I don’t wanna drop the $$$$$ on a 1290 R and don’t like the looks of the 890 ☹️. Always been a Zuki rider and lover back in my 2 smoker days . The pipe and tires could make that bike a fun adventure machine for sure 👌😎👏.
Those tyres are junk? I just did 7,000miles across the US on one set and 800miles of that was off road, on my '16 excf500 Please, please find me another knobby tyre that will do that
