    I made this dress the other day. It's the first thing I've ever sewn. It turned out super cute. I used an inexpensive fabric since it was my first, and I wanted to make sure I can do it. Now I'm going to make another one to wear to a Metal festival in July. Love it. Thank you so much.

    All of your sewing advice is awesome. They all not only have a professional finish, but I love the actual material and patterns on the material that you use. Thank you for all the great tutorials.

    I have a 50's themed party to go to, and I found plenty of dresses however they ranged from 80.00-299.00. I searched how to make your own and I found you. The best thing I ever did! You explained it simply and clearly and it was super easy!!!! Saved me $$$$$$$ Thanks so much!!!!

    Holy creativity, Batman! I could never think to whip up something like that without using a pattern! I'm totally going to have to try doing this, especially with the harsh summers that Florida brings.

  • @TezManiaTV
    @TezManiaTV  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    You could do hook and eye notions for the top, yeah.
    And as for the fitting. I measure carefully and try everything on after pinning it and then make little adjustments where I need to before sewing. The zipper is always a grey area though, so when I can, I try not to leave that 'til the end. If I sew the zipper in and then do the sides (for instance), then I can adjust the side fitting afterwards.

    Fun idea! I'm pretty sure that you can use the same technique and just exchange the zipper for velcro or snaps.

  • @TezManiaTV

    I made the dress with regular pleats, but you can totally do box pleats instead. I actually prefer them, but they take a little more time and fabric and I'm usually lazy... :)

  • @TezManiaTV
    @TezManiaTV  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wow, thank you so much. :)
    Not using pre-made patterns is fun, but it's also risky. I've ruined a couple of garments that way, by not measuring properly or something like that. So it's a risk, but it also enables me to create freely out of my imagination. :D

    It looks so easy when you sew that dress in this video. I'll try to make for a friend. I'm a beginner of sewing, but i thinks with this instructions it will be not so complicatet for me. Yesterday i preparded the cotton, and when i've enough time ( my little daughter thinks i need no time to make any things :) ), then i'll sew my dress. Hole it will look like your's. I'm very nervous about this.

  • @Sootfoot5

    I am looking at making a dress like this for guy - long story - LOL - but I'm needing to make a dress like this that is a "tear away" costume. I was thinking that the zipper area could just be done with velcro or snaps, but I wanted to ask you whether you had any special ideas - thanks so much and btw, you have great videos!

  • @TezManiaTV
    @TezManiaTV  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    I bought two meters of fabric, which is what I usually buy when I want to make a dress. And I think that I had a bit left over when I was done.

  • @TezManiaTV
    @TezManiaTV  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks! And good luck making it! :)

  • @Sootfoot5
    @Sootfoot5 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Oh, btw, I am also going to put the tulle under-skirt with this that is also tear away - I was thinking I'd probably sew the tulle skirt to the bottom section so it tears away in one piece.

  • @EmsIsFab
    @EmsIsFab 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    OH I was also going to use a shorter zipper just to get into the skirt part and then I wanted to use hook and eye notions to close the top of the dress, do you think this would work? Also: if you have no one to help you fit it do you have any suggestions on how to fit it yourself? Maybe just remeasure yourself and add marks to your measurement and add the zipper just outside of them for ease?

  • @TezManiaTV
    @TezManiaTV  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks! I really like it too.

  • @TezManiaTV
    @TezManiaTV  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes, it would. You would just have to make a top piece instead of the triangular "boob covering pieces" that I use here. I made a video earlier called "How to sew a summer dress" (I think). It shows one way of doing it.

  • @TezManiaTV
    @TezManiaTV  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    In the video I use non stretchy cotton, but a little bit of stretch might be good.

  • @gretaphoenix9617
    @gretaphoenix9617 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Would this work if I replaced the hip measurement with my waist, so that the skirt starts at my waist? Could I use a heavy/thick cotton? Thanks, this is a great video!

  • @Sootfoot5
    @Sootfoot5 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks - I'll let you know how it turns out!

  • @TezManiaTV

    Oh, and I LOVE the Batman reference! :)

  • @EmsIsFab
    @EmsIsFab 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    I started making this today! I have to go out now but I have a quick question: When you pleated the skirt part, what kind of pleat did you use? It's hard to see in the video. Box pleat or regular pleats?

    Did you sew down the pleats and iron them like you did in the simple dress tutorial?

    • @TezManiaTV
      @TezManiaTV  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, in this one, I just pinned them directly to the top piece and sewed the pleats as I sewed the whole thing together. It's quicker. ;)

    Not tricky at all I'd say. Just sew the lining fabric onto the boob pieces before they are hemmed and then attach them to the main piece in the same way.

    another way to make the skirt is by folding a meter or 2 of fabric 4 times then drawing quarter of a circle then cut it out. this can give you dress a bit more poof and swing.

    I really don't understand the measurements and how to adjust to my body. The top part either comes out too big or too small no matter how much I try to go by the math you are saying. I am in tears here I don't know what to do

    • @TezManiaTV
      @TezManiaTV  10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm sorry you're struggling with this! :(
      Are you using a zipper in the back? If so, maybe sew the zipper on first and leave the side seems for last, so that you can fit the dress to your body (inside out) and pin it on, then carefully take it off and sew it together following the pins. Zippers make everything more tricky.
