    I know, you think I'm crazy... that being said, I can't but love the 1950's style of women's dresses. Love your Lamour dresss. Couldn't have picked a better model. Your approach is very easy to understand and I truly hope I don't get lost along the way. By the way, my mom was beautiful in this style. Yep, she was a real looker. ajh

    Ok...this is very generous and kind of you! I'm all in. Upgraded my Patreon AND going over to buy some patterns. I sure wish I could wear these, but my female friends in theater are very excited as they will benefit from this...Day one of 21 officially sheltering in place, San Jose, CA

    SIS. You are literally the reason i bought a sewing machine (cheapy 80 bucks at walmart to try it out before going all in. ) Well the damn thing broke. So for Christmas this year my husband bought me a brand new Singer C5200❤️❤️ Dinner napkins have already been made, time to tackle dress making ☺️☺️ I just gotta figure out how to take measurements and learn to use them on where to cut or how much fabric to cut. Cheers❤️ Keep the videos coming sis ☺️👌👌👍. -Lee and Micah Jones.

    I’m so greatful!! When I saw your stay at home sale I got the Liz dress pattern, Lamour dress pattern and the Dorothy bolero patter!! I have Crohn’s disease and am on immunosuppressants so I can’t leave the house currently and this gives me a lovely distraction and something to look forward to in these dark times. I love you Gertie you are amazing thank you for doing so much for us!!! ❤️❤️❤️

    Love the fact you have different bust cup measurements on your pattern. My wife is a double D, and has to do a full bust alteration on most of the commercial patterns she uses. I'm working my way through. Gertie sews a Jiffy dress book, and can't wait to try this pattern.

    Thank you so much for the generosity! bought fabric to make a Lamour for my 30th birthday/dissertation defense party at the end of the month that now likely won't happen. Still planning on making and wearing it, although the occasion will look very different! All the vintage sewing is definitely lifting my spirits : )
    For folks that are thankful and able (and I emphasize able!) may I suggest showing some support on Gertie's Patreon? (There's also more goodies on there and a live stream coming up I think) I'll be upping my membership since I was planning on buying the class anyway!

    Wow thanks for the classes I am still very new and I still don’t know how to read a pattern yet but I am trying to learn I just look at stuff and try sewing what I see I learned how to make my clothes by watching yumi king and with Wendy but I have always wanted to learn 50s style tops and add them to circle skirts that I love to make... what do you do if your a size xl but a bust size G?

    • @GertiesWorld
      @GertiesWorld  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Lamour does come with multiple cup sizes so that may help. I'd also suggest joining the FB group "Gertie Sew and Tell." Several of the members are very helpful with fitting advice.

    Do you (or anyone else for that matter) have any tips or publication recommendations for us ladies with smaller than a b cup? I know that a full bust adjustment is a thing so the opposite must be possible, right?

    • @JustThatNerdKid
      @JustThatNerdKid 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I just discovered you! You are so adorable! I love your channel!. One question. Can you recommend anything else not made out of metal for use in the boning? I've discovered that under wire bras are not healthy for women, in fact wearing metal on the body is not healthy for our body. Can you recommend some good quality alternatives? I know you mentioned that plastic can be used but you also said that nothing is better than metal. Is that your final comment, can you recommend a good quality plastic boning materials for sewing? Thank you love.

    • @GertiesWorld
      @GertiesWorld  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rigilene is the plastic alternative for boning. It won't take as much weight as steel boning and will buckle under if the weight is exceeded. Which is why I prefer metal. Some people also like to use heavy duty plastic zip ties as boning. I've never done this myself, but you could do some internet research if you're interested.

    how would you suggest washing the garment with spiral steel? can you wash it like normal for the fabric. or does it need to be dry cleaned if just normal cotton/natural fiber?

  • @ashleyceaser547
    @ashleyceaser547 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    since it can be made in silk, I could use satin as well?

    • @Timetraveler1111MN
      @Timetraveler1111MN 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I wouldn’t use those on my first few dresses but if your heart is set on the fabric then go for it I think if my memory serves right when the needle goes through the holes it’s difficult to make adjustments and you’ll be able to see those holes if you have to take it apart or do a seam ripper type adjustment, and refit? Did you do the dress? How did it turn out?
