I have no idea why I love that this gearbox shifts this slow with this engine. It just fits so well and sounds so good!
Some shift slower because valve body seals need replacing after 15 years or so ,,if the seals are in good shape they can shift a little faster.
@@Leonardo555ZZZ or buy blue top shift solenoids they also make shifting faster
@@penamuuri6767 Yeah , although AMG cars already have a transmission with 'Speedshift' which shifts about 40% faster than non AMG cars.
I could listen to that engine rev through the gears all day long.

Owner here. Engine is healthy but as you see it is not possible to go all out above 220 as the winter tyres are rated to just 240km/h.
Speedo is really accurate so bear that in mind too.
With summer tyres it can hit 290 GPS all day....eventually :)

I doubt that top speed claim unless your going downhill for half an hour straight. Even then, doubt it. Also, in the video 100-200 was no less than 15, 16 seconds. Nice car, great sound and all but let's be realistic about performance. It's only as good as it can be :)
@@MyRealName Id say too for 300 kmh gps you need approximately 400hp. If the car makes that then I believe it.
@Plot yeah I checked it is actually 13.66secs on their time sheet.
I said it will get there eventually but yes definitely needs headers and a tune to achieve it easily :) otherwise it doesn't really accelerate much from 290 GPS.

The whole car is better for being simpler. No Airmatic (I think wagon has SLS??), no SBC, and no PSE door locks. All can be expensive problems in E and S class.

C55 Owner. I’ve hit 160. He went about 161mph. The fastest I’ve ever heard of a C55 going is 171mph (275kph) on Benz world forums and it was modified.
This car has had vmax raised to 6800rpm and no speed limiter so feasibly 305km/h is possible but very hard to get there with stock power.

@kp_czt that is newer engine (same as the biturbo 5.5 they used). Interestingly they put same N/A version in 2nd gen SLK55 with 430hp so probably the clk500 could be tuned a bit :) either way another beautiful v8 that I would love to have!
@@KingofInternsNo, Slk 172 had completely different engine. The SLK r172 even is the only car in the AMG lineup that uses this specific v8.
Owner C55 sedan. Always a renewed pleasure to drive this car, able to be cool and change character to become "edgy, even angry". Generous, even at very high revs. Sound gets castling from 3000 RPM to 6500. FYI @autotopnl, in manual mode you hit the 6500 limit. In S mode only about 6300.

It is tuned to hit 6800rpm in manual mode, as you can see here in the later part of the video.
Sounds fantastic hitting the Rev Limiter, although I have only done that once in 2 years of ownership, unlike Martijn here 😂

We can't do that here in the USA because so many people think they own the left lane and seldom drive faster than the rest of the traffic, or at times slower. Many will drive for miles and miles beside another vehicle with no intention of passing.
You cannot do it in the USA because it is illegal ;)

I have C55 and a 08 CVPI. That's not too far from the truth.
I have a vic and the shift might be slightly faster in the amg, you have to remember its not a sports car its a luxury sports sadan/wagon in this case

C55 has a front end from clk c209 because of there was no room for the amg engine. So rare..

Probably one of the most underrated sports sedans/wagons out there. Also quite affordable now. I'm sure it would've been so much more desirable if it was available with a manual. Luckily, people have figured out how to make the 6 speed manual from a C320/Crossfire work in them by now, so a swap is not that hard to do.
AMG owners love manuals huh? It would’ve been more desirable if it had the supercharger like the bigger 55 cars.
@@CincySupercar Why wouldn't they love a manual when the 5 speed automatic is as fast as a decapitated turtle. The number of C55's and E55's that have been manual swapped would surprise you. Anyone who has been on MB forums knows just how many owners are interested in putting a manual in their AMG.
@@brunobegic3841 AMG doesn’t sell cars with manual trans and Mercedes itself hasn’t sold a manual with in 10+ years already. AMG owners just don’t seem to care. I have a c55 and was deep in the forums for a few years and I’ve never seen/heard of a stick shift C55 AMG. I know of a large group of guys putting the 5.5 in the older c43.
@Cincy_Supercar check out anderzen on TH-cam he has manual c55.
Manual would be fun for sure but the 5 speed is also very robust and reliable particularly in this application. It isn't stressed at all. Same box was paired with bi turbo v12s with 1000nm/750ft lb output in the SL65.

Well i dont think so its limit of this engine.
W203 AMG with 3.2 V6
~ 354 HP. 450Nm without speed limiters can hit 300kmh.

Limit of the winter tyres on it.
C32 tuned to 400hp can do 300km/h easy.
C55 NA engine but good for 285-290 in this application on the right tyres.
Maybe I bring it back on summer tyres for max speed run for a laugh

Am I the only one to think S203 wagon has better proportions than the W203 saloon? Same goes for the 211 and 204, IMO.
Old is not always bad. Yes, acceleration in this case is not very fast, but stability on the road is a good argument!
13.6secs 100-200 with 367 hp. 2019 C43 kombi with 390 hp which took 12.5secs. Not quick but not off pace either
I have a C55 and beat my friends 2015 Audi S3, 2014 Audi S5 4.2 and 2008 Audi S6 with the V10. It has plenty of new cars covered.

My favorite AMG!! The only C class besides the new trash C63 that has a unique front end that is from the CLK coupe to fit the V8. So if you look at a c55 and a c240 you can see the really long C55 nose. One of the most fun C Class. So reliable. You can just do whatever you want with it especially with LSD. Put over 300,000 miles on one 😂 thank u! Very rare!

Which LSD you have in that & where to source? Got a 06 c55 Sedan here in Canada. LSD would make it more fun in the snow.

To answer my own question: eh - horrible. At least the one I went to check out this week was really bad. Blisters on the doors. Rear lid had been replaced with one off a 220d and, even worse, structural parts of the 'chassis' were showing a disconcerting amount of orange...
Which goes to show that, regrettably, it's just not possible to have a car this good for around 20k :'(

LPG is actually not popular in Switzerland so not worth cost of modification. Hopefully one day can tank up with sustainable fuel and laugh at the dirty EVs :)

Look at table ...13,6s what is fast for 360hp and slow gearbox. The speedometer is very acurate.
I measured 13.3 on my phone using the Speedo. Not bad for it's weight, power and 5 g box.
The E55 Kompressor Estate does it in 9.3 secs however.
@AhEmGee E55 is a beast! +200nm and +130hp does wonders :😀
Sadly in Switzerland road tax is higher the heavier and more powerful cars become 😢
@@KingofInterns I one here in the UK, absolutely love it. Road tax is manageable because it's pre 2005, fuel obviously expensive especially back when the war started.

100-200 it is up there with GLC43 AMG with similar specs. It runs as it should :)

Wagon or saloon. W210 saloon e55 is quite a bit lighter than s203 c55. At least 100-150kg.
C55 w203 and w210 saloon are much more compareable.

@@no-tu4zh 15 years newer technologies and newer transmission, turbos etc… with mine c55 I have killed many cars in this class from 300hp ( garage projects ) to 430-440hp muscle cars, M3 E46 also 😉

This more likely cruiser than sports car. That noise would blow my ears after a while. All I can say is that I admire owners whom willing to keep that sort of cars on the road. Its not long till stupid EU bans them and instead of listening rumbling V8's we will hear whistling noise from electric junk
Cruising is fine but not at high speeds. Too thirsty and noisy for that :)

I mean cruising at 160+km/h is too noisy for extended periods and would be lucky to cover 200-300km on a full tank 😀
Consequently on long journeys I tend to cruise at 120-130km/h not least with family on board.

Stock Mark 7 GTI cannot get 13.6secs 100-200. 17.6secs :D ....turbo easy to tune though :)
Still would prefer that smooth V8 any day above a GTI... of course they are not the quickest anymore.

Your car stock: 285 hp, this Merc: 360hp..... so if Your car is stock - its probably slower.
Hmmm I have C55 saloon and at 120km/h cruise it gets 9.3L/100km. So 335d gets less than 3L/100km?.......lies
C55 (2004) 0-100 km/h 5,6 sec.
0-200 19,6 sec.
335d e90 0-100 km/h 6,0 sec.
0-200 20,06 sec.
It‘s pretty the same performance, and that‘s because the 3.0 twin turbo Diesel engine is a masterpiece.
But back in the early 2000 the C55 was one of the fastest Wagons in this class you can buy. And it was the F1 Medical Car 😉
