Farewell to Corrie 1984 - the year of: the Websters, the final swansong of a Walker (albeit roguish Billy) in the Rovers, Elsie Tanner's far too rushed exit, and the sad loss of Stan Ogden. For me, New Year 1985 marked the beginning of the last decade of the "Golden Era", with Bet as Queen of the Rovers. After that, it was downhill all the way.
I've been binge watching all these old episodes of when life was far less complex than of today. I remember these from when I was a kid. We weren't that far behind in Australia but then they stopped showing it here but then brought it back a couple of years later but by then it had lost its drive and was canned for good.

Interesting how they'd lined up Vera and Jack to replace Hilda and Stan as the Steet's comedy couple. They'd even given Jack Stan's window cleaning round.
It was so obvious, wasn't it? Although Hilda was a gem and the other three weren't. Only saw Stan show love towards Hilda once when her brother died, otherwise he'd constantly stral from her, who worked hard. The Duckworths are vile people.
For me this is nearing the end of the classic era,Len, Annie, Ena, Albert, Stan, Elsie all gone. Soon it will be the arrival of Alan Bradley and the first shock and awe/Sensationalism era storyline :(
It’s interesting to see what an absolute ratbag Jack was and yet, he was absolutely beloved by the time he died. Working at The Rovers was the making of him. He evolved into a darling.
Think Vera had a cheek in the Boxing Day episode. Ivy invites her over, says Hilda’s going to be there, and she complains about Hilda-but still goes herself! Up to Ivy who’s there-it’s her house.
02:17:47 I like how the tinsel on the door behind Bet changes colour when she steps outside and closes the door and it suddenly acquires an extra piece around the window trim.
Instead of going off to work at Dr. Lowther's new house in 1987, I think it would have been wonderful if Eddie and Marion had come back for Hilda, and moved her to Bury with them, where, without Stan, she really belongs.

Yes, they used film cameras for all external shots for decades before portable video cameras technology got better. The colour grading and contrast was quite obvious.

The scene of Jack's death was so well done, Vera coming to take him with her, had me sobbing like a baby.

That Debbie dresses as though she wants to be ready to go, the second the circus calls.
