I bought my VL Turbo back in 1994, 5 speed manual. I lost my license one to many to times, in that thing. Loved it though. Cops didn’t like P platers driving them, if I had a mate in the car I’d find myself on the side of the road, but when I had my Girl in the car they would leave me alone. The good old days👍🏻😎

Very nice 👍 I purchased a factory white VL Calais turbo 5 speed manual with electric roof (yes manual) with 8k on the clock in 1990 for 13k from a grandpa that couldn’t drive it properly I still have it in mint with 36k on the clock The only thing done was bigger turbo and brakes upgrade I
Fun fact : heads and block cast by Nissan, built developed ,cammed and tuned by Holden in Australia, not by Nissan. Hence why Japanese engine builders love the rb30 blocks for 26/30s and came here to get them because they didn't come out in Japan, 2. Yes we can develop awesome stuff here !
Sorry mate, couldn't find any information on the RB30 block being developed by Holden, all the sources I found point out that they simply bought rights for RB30 from Nissan, who were already using these engines for their R31 Skylines and Patrols for Middle East and Africa since 1985 (a year prior to Commodore's release). The RB30ET, on the other hand, was actually partially developed by Holden, but not the block itself, only lower compression bottom end, injectors and intake manifold.
RB 30 com put in the Japs r31....we stole there rb30 for the vl becos Holden didn't have a suitable engine...the comment saying they came here to get the RB 26/30🤔.got me lost mate..no we go there to get those motors from them..they prob started that combo long before us...only thing we would have done is change the tune of emission..apart from that..everything comes from Japan..we can't claim nothing

@@5150gino Indonesia has the Holden Ute, Gemini, 4-door Torana, Lincah, Camira, Kingswood, Calais/Commodore (Only VB, VC, VH and VL, the Indonesian spec VL has an RB20E instead of the RB30E and RB30ET. The VK Calais and Commodore wasn't sold in Indonesia.), Belmont and Premier.

Hey Clay, 1st time viewer, the yellow vl's were used by vicpol as pursuit cars, TOG or Traffic Operation Group absolutely loved them unless they had to stop or turn....🤣🤣🤣🤣👍
That's a very nice car. The standard VL turbos were not all that fast (150kw and top speed around 220 kmh). Did vicpol give them a boost? I had two non-turbo VL Commodores as company cars, 1986 SL and a 1988 Berlina. Though not particularly quick, the 3.0L Nissan engine was beautifully flexible and nicely balanced for the car. A very nice drive. Power has increased since those days. My 2007 Saab 9-3 Aero has a 2.8L turbo engine made by Holden to Saab specs at Fisherman's Bend. Standard spec was 184kw and 350NM. Mine's had a couple of minor mods, a chip remap to the 2008 Saab TurboX spec and a big DO88 intercooler. It's now around 220kw and 430NM and speed limited to 260kmh. Times have changed.
Two things: Tourism Victoria should be paying you a fee for filming around Melbourne- it is impressive, secondly, that particular "yellow" was used by the highway patrol around Oz and the VL RB30 turbo were known to be able to catch up to GTHO Falcons and Porsches cruising up the "Hume" from a standing start quicker than the V8 Holden and Ford of the time.
Dude, no disrespect but learning to drive in a BT1 spec VL Berlina from new on L plates and beyond - they had power steering but definitely, there is a differing feeling between that body type and the following series, compared to an ex-cop VZ LS1, had more grunt 420/520 tweaked but maybe it's in the weight difference and chassis design - I preferred the VL (maybe with the LSX would be fun - blown)? Nice specimen
That particular car is an exceptional build, the only major thing I don't care for are the ridiculous size wheels and rubber band tyres. Super low profile tyres don't grip around corners and adding greatly to wheel diameter overstresses axles and especially front suspension parts. On the whole the VL was a much better Holden for using Nissan's motor, but not at all an iconic car.
I'm building a 1988 yellow vl bt1 now 1000hp everything the same as this yellow thing just bigger turbo set. Up . Good on the ower of this vl bt1 his done a beautiful job at. Building the car should get together for cruises once my vl is finished twins lol 😎
I owned a vl Calais turbo & as they are nice to look at it was the biggest piece shit I’ve ever owned! One problem after another I was spending my whole wage to keep it on the rd.
Thomas Luke lots of people tell me this but i can honestly say i have had no issues whatsoever. Loui build the car from start to finish and it has given me no issues whatsoever. Starts first time everytime.
Beautiful car, although difficult to say everything’s been reupholstered when as you say that where the windscreen rubber joins the body you can see some terrible upholstery.
